I’m more interested in them being able to understand and stay true to what made the original great. I wonder if Ken Lobb is involved in this as well. Since he was instrumental in the development of the original and KI (as well as the reboot)
As the dev said in the trailer striking the Perfect balance of old and new. Reboots like Doom and Killer Instinct pulled it off really well.
Perfect Dark is story driven and very close to James bond like in music and atmosphere. Look up it’s history, by it’s very nature it can’t be a open world third person only ate sad dad sim. It will change perspective often, I’m sure of that, even the original did as did zero.
If your interest lies with story driven? Then you’d like Perfect Dark. Camera perspective is not a genre (and no, I’m not getting into that again), unless you just want Sony, in that case … Buy Sony. No shame in that, and nobody here will hate you over it.
Perfect Dark fans have been waiting for this game for ages, allow them their game please.
PS: Have you ever played the originals? Or know the story behind how it came to be? Or heard how fantastic the music is? Honest question, as I’m sure PD fans would love to tell you about it, it’s quite a tale .
Yep. Gaming media are largely another part of the marketing cycle for publishers and developers, along with influencers and YouTubers. Actual journalist work in this industry is uncommon.
This game looks incredibly dope, dev interview is hyping, art direction look fantastique and unique, The Initiative look like they are the right guy for rebooting Perfect Dark
And it’s not a genre, but it’s a perspective! PD games are as story driven as they get, it should be right up their alley, could even be a sad mom sim depending on their story lol, or is that “moody mom sim”. I joke, but it a pretty narrative driven game series (except for the multiplayer).
PD was closer to an immersive sim (like Deus Ex) than one of the story driven affairs. I mean sure it had a story and world building and some cool characters (I hope they bring back Elvis in some form) but the gameplay was the star, and the amount of options you were given were insane for a game at the time or even now for that matter.
I don’t care about Perfect Dark and I prefer third person camera perspective so I’m very disappointed. Should I be excited for the game because you are?
Perfect Dark must be a first person game. I would be very disappointed if it was 3rd person, MS can try creating a new 3rd person franchise or emphasise on Hellblade 2 or whatever.
Good decision to be a fps with, I would guess, rpg elements and unique gameplay mechanics.
I mean, it could have set pieces. The OG Perfect Dark did with the helicopter firing on Jo in Data Dyne or Air Force One crashing. Still, I suspect most of the game will be more immersive sim than exploration shooter.
Agreed. If I wanted to play Uncharted, I’d play Uncharted. If I only had an Xbox, I’d play Tomb Raider or Jedi Fallen Order. I’m really happy Initiative is sticking close to the formula. Like they said in the video, there aren’t many games like it.
I have no problems with some cool setpieces, chases, etc. but the bulk of the game should be Perfect Dark and it really seems like it is.
I’d prefer if you can avoid those set pieces as well. Having multiple ways to get through a level would be cool. Joanna is a secret agent, leaving out the back door with no one noticing her should be the main focus.
Essentially if they look at Deus Ex, Dishonoured, Hitman, they cant mess this up
Oh I’m not knocking it, I’m just saying a camera perspective is not a genre and is not limiting the story development at all. On top of that, it tends to change when in cover it becomes third person anyway, and probably will have third person qtes and cinematic events.
So this whole narrative by some that it isn’t third person and thus a shooter like Halo? Is a bit annoying, especially for fans of the game.
Should fans of s series be disappointed because you want Uncharted? It isn’t even my kind of game, but I love the music and atmosphere, and the history behind how it came to be. But I’m under the impression that fans of the series shouldn’t suffer because your ass can’t get a PlayStation 5.
I’ve played the other Perfect dark games but have never finished them, I really don’t think that this will be like those at all, there will be some similarities sure but in terms of gameplay besides being first person I doubt they’ll be similar, this trailer also gave me some open world or semi open world vibes.
