The Initiative is partnering with Crystal Dynamics for Perfect Dark development

i don’t think it’s meaningless, having more experienced devs will finish the game in less time. beside turn 10 knows the in and out of Xbox series console. probably they are most studio worked with hardware team of xbox

i don’t think 2025 is unrealistic, especially from new formed studio even they got help from CD.

the team also have to bring back 20 years old IP to life. i will say it’s harder than developing new IP

I think the game is 2024 Fall at the latest.

I’m not concerned about this partnership, but I’m curious about the state of Crystal Dynamic and what’s going on to where Square is loaning them out as a “support studio.”

I wonder if this could mean a possible acquisition later on, and if so, I hope TR comes along with them. ( Like IOI studios w/Hitman).

It reminds me of how loans work in soccer. Loan a player out so you don’t have to pay thier salary. If the team likes what the player does for them they can make it a permanent move.

Does that mean Xbox has an option to buy CD lol?

Seems like something that could be happening. And tbh, I wouldn’t be surprised based on the issues Squares Western Division has been having w/ their current outputs.

I think their last great game (imo), was Rise.

I think it’s possible given the weirdest surrounding Square and their Western Division.

If this turns out to be true, I hope we get some of those IPs along w/ the acquisition.

Didn’t have a chance to watch it, what did Rand say?

My comment was actually poking fun at the loan system in football / soccer where you can loan a player and agree to buy him/her at a set price at the end of the loan period.

In all seriousness though, I wouldn’t exactly bet against the Western Division being sold off at some point because it is simply not performing as well as the Japanese Division and SE might decide to cash in and double down on Japan.

Ah ok, well it’s a good example nonetheless.

To your second point, I remember rumors of Square selling, so based off this odd “partnership,” I wonder if this is a “test before you buy” or just nothing at all.

Pretty much breaks everything down logically like most of the people in here. He goes on to speculate about how TI could work moving forward. Starting off and leading a project then the team they work with would take over for the sequel while TI could move on to starting another big project in the same manor.

Obviously I’m paraphrasing but it’s a well thought out take.

"eh, yah know, sorta maybe kinda…or maybe not…right?

Thank you.

Whats the transfer fee? Agent fees?

Do we gotta deal with Raiola?

What kind of game do people want with this?

The term “early development” is meaningless becomes its completely subjective.

If Raiola is involved, it is best to move on .

I get the impression that Xbox uses that term for if the game is still in pre-production and not necessarily how long they have been working on it.

First person spy shooter with a heavy focus on parkour traversal like Mirror’s Edge, rich variety of cool gadgets and weapons, room for both Splinter Cell type stealth and John wick style guns blazing, arena bots, a great story and soundtrack to round it all off.

I will say this:

In the documentary about Killer Instinct, Adam Isgreen commented that when they hire an external sturio to work second party with them, there will always be a first refusal clause allowing MS to buy them if they go up for sale during the contract.

For KI, as this was categorised as an Xbox Live game not a full MS studios game, that clause wasn’t it there, hence them losing Double Helix mid development.

Assuming the policy is the same today, it’s safe to say that CD, Avalanche, Asobo, IOI (assuming Project Dragon is real) all have such clauses in their contracts.

Personally I would like them to do it similarly to how games like Doom 2016 and KI 2013 were brought back. They are both in the spirit of the old games but still feel very modern. The original PD tasked the player with completing multiple objectives during a given mission, objectives be added or changed depending on the difficulty you chose. Every weapon in the game had a secondary firing mode, something that could be used strategically in sp and mp, like The Laptop gun which turned into a turret that you could stick onto the wall. Give the player opportunities to use these in clever ways to get missions done in game. I guess I want the new PD to lean into “immersive sim” territory and keep the cyberpunk 007 feel of the original.
