The Initiative is partnering with Crystal Dynamics for Perfect Dark development

Forza Motorsport better have not been in pre production at E3 lol

Does pre production also involve creating the engine?

My impression I got from Forza is that it will be a service game. So I think a part will release next year, with more and more being added.

Using Deus Ex as the main template for me is common sense. Multiple ways to achieve each object. The gadgets should be Perfect Darks equivalent of the powers and mods from Dishonoured and Deus Ex etc. Each one changes the way you play the game

That sounds quite good actually

I think Cairo should be the main hub in the game as well, like how Prague was in Mankind Divided. This way they can focus on making the city a living space

Im very sure that Forza Motorsport will get full gameplay reveal at 2022 E3 and get a late 2022 release date like FH5 now that Forza Motorsport 7 is delisted they need a replacement fast.

This is a highly unusual and unexpected turn of events, but it is the furthest thing from bad news for Initiative or Perfect Dark. Having a studio like Crystal Dynamics help build the rest of the game now it’s exiting what looks like a very generous pre-production stage tells me Grubb’s article could be right about PD being slated for 2023.

As for CD’s role in this: it’s not unusual because it’s a third party publisher’s studio working on a first party game for a platform or even for Xbox in particular. It’s unusual because:

  1. CD is a AAA ass AAA studio that usually is the one getting supported (incl by Eidos-Montreal)
  2. CD shouldn’t even be available right now; they should be in Year 2 on a super successful Avengers GaaS title and deep in pre-production on the next AAA title
  3. Unlike other instances where a third party publisher’s studio has developed a first party exclusive for a platform (e.g. Creative Assembly on Halo Wars 2, Relic on AoE IV, etc.), CD were not involved in any way with this project at the beginning, they’re coming in 3 years later

Speculating, but the obvious factors behind this partnership would appear to be 1) Darrel Gallagher, and 2) timing due Avengers bombing.

Speculating a bit further, I do think this could mean something more than just a partnership. I’d be very curious if Square Enix cancelled Avengers 2 or whatever project was next for CD for them to be available. I believe there’s been credible rumours of a new a Tomb Raider game in early development, but I’m not clear if that’s with CD or Eidos-Montreal, who did the last game.

The next Tomb Raider is probably going to be done by Crystal Southwest, their new studio in Austin. The new executive producer for Tomb Raider, Dallas Dickinson, is heading the studio.

Even better.

I bet MS would absolutely love to get their hands on Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP. CD is big enough to manage two AAA franchises. Potentially even a third with how they’re set up.

Getting their hands on TR would be a very big deal

While it’s not in it’s prime, Lara Croft is one of the few characters that if you went up to someone on the street, you’d get even non-gamers knowing who she is

Having one of the most recognisable and iconic characters and the TR IP as a permanent exclusive part of your eco system would be huge

yep, it’s that one IP that’s also been heavily transmedia for decades and would have a massive reach, something Sony is reaping the success from at the moment with their licensed IP leverage. Tomb Raider in that sense would be a two birds one stone situation, where you’d get a pretty well known character in media but also the kind of game that MS lacks right now - 3rd person over the shoulder cinematic action adventure. This is why I’m unsure if Square is willing at all to give away that IP.

If Perfect Dark is a big success I can easily see them trying to acquire CD permanently and if Square really are willing to give up CD, I can see them also parting with TR if the price is good enough

Companies usually like to hang on to their IPs but if they are letting go off their main TR dev, im not sure how much use it will be to them, not to mention the IP doesn’t seem to have been as lucrative as Square wanted, mostly down to what seems to be absolutely insane sales expectations

The more games inspired by Deus Ex, the better.

If a studio is partnering with another studio it can only make the game better. Not worse. Absolute fucking Morons on the internet spinning this as bad. David Jaffe being one of them with his awful videos.

What people don’t seem to understand is…CD will have ZERO influence on the main direction and writing of the game. Their influence will come in the actual Mechanical Gameplay department of helping Initiative establish and develop a core gameplay structure since they have experience. Iniative can design on paper the best game ever made. But they’re too small too execute it as far as a fully developed AAA game goes. Thats why you need help with outsourcing.

Is Coalition doing the MP for this game or is it single player only?

At this point, I’m not sure I buy into the speculation they’re actually involved in building the game.

MP at the most.

Thinking Multiplayer comes later

I think it’s been mentioned previously that Coalition has at least helped them tech wise, but nothing further than that has been confirmed.

Would make sense with how open of communication the Xbox studios have.

Thats just a rumor and I dont see this game having multiplayer at launch or ever lol.
