The Initiative is partnering with Crystal Dynamics for Perfect Dark development

The so called “concern” is pretty hilarious considering this is a very common practice in this industry.

Were people upset that Flight Simulator was made almost entirely by Asobo? A studio that is not owned by MS?

Were people concerned when Naughty Dog outsourced The Last of Us 2 to twelve (12) other studios?

It’s specially shocking coming from some members of the community. Like honestly, what’s up with those takes? Sounds to me that in their efforts to appear credible and unbiased (to a certain group) they have to come up with some hot takes that quite frankly make them look extremely uninformed.

Jeff Grubb however was spot on:

Nice and very exciting. CD are among my favorite developers and the partnership makes perfect sense.

Now this is the kind of stuff I wanna discuss on forums here… Not the other concern crap

I think this is pretty cool. I bet TI probably has the core gameplay, story, art style and vision of PD nailed down. They probably want help designing levels, animations, AI and more. Very much looking forward to this.

I already see it lol.

If the game turns out great: “Crystal Dynamics has been redeemed, The Initiative didn’t do anything, credit gotta go to CD for saving the game.”

If the game doesn’t turn to be great: “Mismanagement, Xbox studios struggling, hiring bad studio to collaborate, the platform is doomed”

Hehe

Unpopular take here- I see an acquisition coming.

I wonder what the reception would of been if hypothetically “Microsoft acquires CD and they join forces on Perfect Dark.”

A lot of the silly comments I’ve seen on Twiiter is people having an issue that its a 3rd party studio. The thought that people are so pedantic over who owns said studio that is helping is mind boggling to me.

Then the reception would have been " CD never made good games anyway so it makes sense why SE let them go " .

Best time to capitalize on that comment - buy them both. Take advantage of armchair pundits.

Good news, this means the game is actually realistically targeted to 2023 with such a high profile development partner. Concerning media people takes, I always say media is the biggest Xbox enemy, even among “friends”, who have often very stupid takes on par with other people. Moreover is very disrespectful for Crystal Dynamics, a legendary studio.

Yes Nintendo do stuff like this a lot too IIRC so I don’t see the problem.

I love the Crystal Tomb Raider games even though I hate the white paint they seem to be so fond of. Anyway this makes perfect sense for the partnership considering the studio head used to work there and the studios are so close to each other so I’m looking forward :slightly_smiling_face:

Grubb and Minotti’s discussion on the topic, alongwith their boss Jason for a level headed take.

Plus if Sony work with them their fans will be more than happy with the news. They love to move goalposts.

Its 2025 mate. Early in dev is a hint

Early in dev doesn’t mean a ton when every developer says their game is early in development. Forza Motorsport was “early in development” at E3 and we all expect it in 2022.

Turn 10 are experienced.

Doesn’t change the fact that the statement is meaningless

If they staff The Initiative up to CD levels and then make the game you would not see this on the Series consoles :woman_shrugging:

And Crystal Dynamics and the top tier devs working at The Initiative aren’t? Hah, it’s 2024 at the latest.
