The Game Awards 2023 |

You mean classic stealth AC is not cool anymore.

Remakes were always included in TGA. Resident Evil 2 was a nominee in 2019 and Final Fantasy VII in 2020.

I don’t disagree with it. If the game is a faithful remake that also improves the original one I’m all for it.

Hmm, I wonder what universally praised, high scoring 2021 game that won IGN’s GOTY prize could have been included instead of a placeholder Insomniac game…

(Yep, still bitter :red_car: :mexico: )

Who cares. Still has amazing support, still being played, and still the champ at its genre.

Also the game is set in the Middle East and there’s a fair bit of Islamophobia going around those award-runner circles, keep an eye on how TGAs block any speech about the ongoing genocide - The Golden Joysticks already banned said discussion. I’m not trying to make this political, but political speeches have taken stage at almost every awards venue I can recall, and this muzzling of game devs who are directly affected by what’s going on has always been another reason I avoid these things like COVID.

It’s gaming media so… no probably not.

Bunch of cultist posers most of them.

Its definitely another year of the Geoff Keighly “Look at Me!” Self Importance awards.

Funnies shit is seeing Cyberpunk in best ongoing game. God forbid actual ongoing games got nominated there.

Do they not have a DLC/expansion category? Phantom Liberty deserves recognition but you’re right, that’s stretching the idea of an “ongoing game.”

Yes it would definitely deserve recognition for a DLC/expansion category yet I never knew that to mean ongoing, that directly translates to live service and predominantly multiplayer. Cyberpunk spent 3 years in fixing so I guess they consider that ongoing support :skull:

You know, this category can be really argued about biased against Xbox because I don’t recall seeing SoT like ever. No Halo (this year undoubtably), Forza Horizon 5, which continues to be phenomenal, or even Grounded.

But I digress.

Ongoing game and community support categories just seem like a grab bag of random stuff these critics weren’t sure about

What about Hifi Rush, is there no action/adventure award? Surely HFR is somewhere?

These don’t have the important criteria of being on the media’s favorite platform.

It is a nominee for best action game

It has best action and few others, which is fine. The game is too original IP to be cared for sadly.

Huh. GOTY is filled with sequels…

Fairgames need to happen quick so Sony can have one every year.

It’s not?

Also, I can’t help but feel like someone got snubbed hard here, but I can’t point out who…

not linking the article, but c’mon now. What a joke of a a website. Plus, the game was nominated for Best RPG, and would be nice for people to call them out.

It’s funny that even in 2023 there are people who lose their heads over an award that has already shown itself to be lacking in criteria, lacking the ability to understand simple technical things (they don’t know what an Indie Game is, for example) and biased. But it doesn’t overcome the people who try to justify the absence of Starfield games, Hi-fi Rush and Indie games in the main category.
