That’s just bad journalism. Final Fantasy XVI was also not nominated but I’m not seeing any article about it…
Mintrocket is owned by Nexon.
The game awards aren’t even ten years old. It’s a joke. A bad pr exercise by self-serving marketeers & lobbyists.
The only reason it garnered such a huge viewership in recent years is due to console war reasons. So well done Geoff, I guess, i.e. he knew a market for this sort of ridiculous award show existed & has fully exploited it.
100 million viewers for a ceremony of industry insiders circle-jerking each other & their favorite corporations.
Being the biggest event in gaming in less than 10 years is pretty damn impressive to me.
I’m just sad that Chained Echoes is forgotten because it released in December last year.
It’s such a gem of a game develope by one person. Deserve to be nominated in indie game and RPG.
Goldfish brain game media.
E3 killing itself also helped Geoff lol
And all of those games have had articles written about the stellar support, save Forza because it never needed any reminding.
But who plays racing, right?
Give me a break, no other games show was aired on network television, especially one bound to one of the biggest media suppliers in the industry… this is the lowest level of argumentum ad popoulum to defend I’ve seen in a while, congrats.
I wouldn’t say that the main reason is console wars. TGA is pretty much the only show where every company can release trailers now that E3 is dead.
I mean, Geoff literally rushes the awards so he can have more time to have trailers lol. It’s pretty much a commercial, even more with the possibility of the GTA 6 trailer being dropped there.
Only 30 million+ players… far more than the majority of Sony games reach. It was also the highest rated exclusive the year it released so these clowns neither have their own metrics nor player sentiment to fall back on.
I wonder if Kotaku is one of the nonbiased, totally professional news outlets that helps compile the list of nominees.
Kotaku is not part of the jury, but Metro.
Sounds like excuses to me. If it was as easy as you’re making it out to be, someone would have replicated it already to this level.
I think the vast majority of these awards had barely in thought put into it from the 120 + outlets around the world as well but I’m not going to diminish Geoff’s years of hard work to make this into what it became.

When fans are cool.
Don’t worry, buddy. Award is award. We’re more.
Congrat to all nominees REALY it’s strong year
Happy for Hi-Fi a non-populer Xbox style get all this presense at the cermony, hopes more diverse content from Xbox next years.
(About 10 days till the 10th anniversary and KI still MIA ) :
What we seeing now is exactly why these awards suck, one of the most amazing years in video games quickly turned to petty rivalry discourse, and I’m not absolving myself form this as I’m also joining in taking the piss. It just helps no one.
It’s how every award is. Even the most prestigious awards in the Grammy’s and Oscar’s constantly drop the ball, especially with genres the jury is clearly not familiar with.
There’s never going to be an award show that represents everyone in earnest.
Yeah, but you shouldn’t bring up excuses like Forza Horizon 5 not getting into the GOTY list because the jury didn’t have enough playtime, but still putting it into the racing/sport list. And then next year they suddenly had enough playtime for God for War.
Thankfully the Oscars are losing relevance every passing year, because they had the same problem of nominating certain types of movies, people eventually got tired of it. The same could happen to the Game Awards, only saving grace is the new game trailers, which make it a game show 1st, awards show second.
