The Game Awards 2020 |OT|

The Game Awards is introducing a new list called Future Class, which “recognizes individuals around the world who represent the bright, bold and inclusive future for video games. We’re looking for creatives in the video game industry, content creators, esports players and more”

You can submit someone you think should be included on the list with this link: tgafutureclass.com

Also Wasteland 3 wasn’t published by XGS

True! So that’s even more! 13, no?

Forza Horizon won best sports game a few times. Maybe Motorsport also, not sure.

Yeah, you’re right. I was checking wrong. Back in 2015 they got several nominations for Ori, Forza 6, and Halo 5. Horizon 3, Motorsport 7, and Horizon 4 all won best sports/racing game.

Absoluye shitshow in terms of nominations. At least Gears Tactics and Wasteland 3 got nominations.

The awards feel more like a popularity contest that actually critical acclaim.

That’s all award shows to be fair.

Shocked Ori got snubbed (sort of) that game is stunning, I hope it at least wins something, would be criminal going home empty handed.

Ori better win best art direction at least. In my opinion, it’s probably the most beautiful game ever created.

It looks great on XB1X on Series X it looks insane, the HDR on that game with my inky black oled and the super colourful of some of the areas is stunning! The soundtrack too arghh so bloody good.

Haven’t tried it on Series X yet. I should really give it a try soon with the 6K mode. And yeah, the soundtrack is pretty damn great. So glad they got Gareth Coker for Halo: Infinite, can’t wait to see what he creates for the game.

For me -

  1. Horizon II: Forbidden West
  2. God of War Ragnarok
  3. Halo Infinite
  4. Resident Evil VIII: Village

The other two are of no interest to me.

So Sea of Thieves missing for ongoing game, community support, and accessibility?

Missing a game that had monthly updates, insider testing program, takes community feedback, does contests, active on Twitter, does twitch drops/giveaways, has a community content creator/partner program, plays weekly on twitch with partners, did weekly dev updates until COVID happened, introduced events, expanded their accessibility options to include: single stick, auto float, auto forward, etc, etc, etc.

Got it.

Arguably as big a snub as Ori.

The show is fantastic for announcements, but is People’s Choice tier when it comes to awards prestige. You see the same paint by numbers 3rd person action adventures on the list every year. It’s like if all the best picture nominees were Marvel films. I, for one, am sick to death of the template.

So, some predictions as to the world premieres? I think we could see some of these:

  • First look at the Initiative’s First Game

  • A very small teaser for Naughty Dog’s next title. A Savage Starlight game.

  • First gameplay look for Hellblade 2

  • Reveal for Outer Worlds DLC 2

  • Psychonauts 2 dated

  • Smash DLC Fighter 3 revealed

  • New look at Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

  • Returnal and GT 7 dated

  • New look and date for Bayonetta 3 and No More Heroes 3

  • Geoff unenthused by Xbox announcements, hyped as shit for Fall Guys Season 3 (lol)

  • Date for and first look at Cyberpunk 2077 next gen update.

  • Last of Us 2 Factions showcased

My predictions of what will be in the Game Awards:

  • Psychonauts 2 trailer, release date
  • Bunch of boring CGI trailers for card games
  • Bayonetta 3 (it’s been a while)
  • Creative Assembly FPS reveal
  • The Initiative’s game teaser
  • Shitty licensed game
  • Among Us update (already confirmed)
  • Something from EA (Dragon Age? Need for Speed? Not sure what, but something)

Has Sony had much of a presence in prior shows? I don’t recall seeing them much, so I don’t think they’ll reveal all that.

ngl a lot of the card games have insane cinematics and amazing trailers until they reveal the actual game midway and it looks like shit, I mean just from an art direction and design perspective, not necessarily the gameplay itself.

Here are the times for the show:

3:30 PM PT/6:30 PM ET

Finally a good time for Germany
