The same 5-6 games dominate almost every category. Very boring but predictable nominations. Those games are good though so don’t get me wrong.

Ghost of Tsushima over Ori? The darkest timeline

Like I expected, the Last of Us Part II kinda dominated, just like Death Stranding last year. Very surprised at Hades getting so many nominations.

Man, extremely gutted to not see Ori in the GOTY Nominations. It was my personal favorite this year and easily Xbox’s best game in a while.

It deserves to be there much more than Ghosts. Awards aren’t the be all end all anyways. I kinda despise them all but I still find myself invested anyways. It’s a horrible cycle lol!

How are these games nominated?

Interesting to see both Miles Morales and AC: Vahalla nominated for anything, considering they’ve both been out for a week.

Or was it a given they would be?

The cutoff date was November 20, which is why those games were eligible. They are nominated by a panel of judges.

Yet Demon’s Souls which deserves a visual direction and action nod isn’t. It’s weird

Disgusting. Really puts you off gaming in general. It would be like superhero movies winning the Oscars every year.

The problem for me is that it actually matters because companies tend to chase awards so they will gravitate towards these type of games. So we send up with less Ori and more GoT.

This is not even to mention to the obvious platform and developer bias.

So Among Us was nominated but not for GotY? How out of touch.

I suspect GoT took Cyberpunk 2077 place seeing as that was supposed to be out this week. But even that getting a nomination would have been shoddy.

Hades! Hades! Hades!

Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios released 9 original titles in 2020 (for now), and 7 of them received at least one nomination.

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps - 3
  • Gears Tactics - 1
  • Grounded - 1
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator - 1
  • Minecraft Dungeons - 1
  • Tell Me Why - 1
  • Wasteland 3 - 1

I didn’t look closely, but Xbox Game Studios is, probably, the publisher with more games nominated than any other this year.

TGA is nothing but holiday marketing PR. Until Keighley moves the show to February and includes the entire calendar year, I will never take these awards seriously. Love how Jedi Fallen Order is missing despite the fact that Keighley said it would be nominated this year. Gee, I wonder if Cyberpunk 2077 will get fucked over next year??? Yeah, I think it is. SMH.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order did get a nomination for the best action-adventure game, but that’s it.

Jedi Fallen Order got nom for Action Adventure. That was it. It was also the second best selli g game of last year and tons of people loved it. Weird.

I honestly don’t think its GOTY worthy, but oftentimes the nominees don’t align with my tastes anyways so :man_shrugging:

That’s a joke. Come on. Only one? Great game and in a weak 2019, probably would have won. SMH.

Considering 2019 was weak, it’s definitely a GOTY contender last year. May not win but it’s an easy contender. My issue is that TGA is nothing more than PR marketing sales bullshit. Plus so many awards are either off-camera, on the pre-show or just listed. It’s sad. UGH.

Sony’s who MO is to appeal to the Marvel crowd, which is why shallow shiny games like God of War get so much praise.
