The first gameplay for Avowed has been revealed in this new trailer. Coming 2024

For me, Obsidian’s best (Mask of the Betrayer, New Vegas, POE2) is better than the Mass Effect series. So I want Obsidian to keep making Obsidian-ass games.

Fable starts slow and gets better later. You were probably still in the beginning part of the game. 2 hours is nothing. Same for Morrowind.

You are gone to probably spend like an hour on Starfield and quit to. I can see JRPG’s are the thing for you and not the WRPG’s that Xbox are making now.

So I guess the people who complained about the visuals in this thread weren’t completely out of pocket? :person_shrugging:

People are underestimating obsidian smh.

Pretty much the news I was hoping for.

If this game releases in the later half of 2024, then I would imagine it will have enough time for a major graphical upgrade as Halo Infinite and Starfield did.

Trailer vs obsidians own screenshot. Add a year of polish on top of that gg lol.

Black level crush in the trailer it seems.

The tweet from Klobrille about lighting changes and everything is great to hear. I guess it was to be expected, but still great to hear.

Whoa!

Now this I didn’t expect. Very, very interesting! Especially the parts about ToW. I gotta say it’s wise of the dev to keep expectations in check instead of promising too much.

Is that person for real with bugsidian? Sheesh. Good on that dev for staying calm.

I’ll admit that I was doubting Obsidian a bit after that last trailer. Especially with all the talk about the scope being smaller which felt to me like it would be a budget game like The Outer Worlds…

But looking at those screenshots much closer and them saying that there still a lot of work to do is really comforting. If it’s a bit shorter than most RPG, I want the game to be stunning, polished and with a lot of player agency.

I watched the video of Tim Cain talking about playing The Outer Worlds from start to finish with 16 characters testing different builds and it’s what I want for this type of games :

Perhaps you should re-read what the point of the counter arguments were then.

Holy shit, that forum is…something else. I get criticism but jesus. Folks there are being extremely critical and honestly downright rude at times.

And one person says Obsidian having free reign isn’t necessarily good, a studio known for mismanagement and what not. That’s the first time I heard that.

I read most of this thread. People were going on and on about how the graphics were perfectly fine and art style doesn’t matter. People saying the lighting or textures were bad were told that graphics/art in these kinds of games doesn’t matter.

The only complaints I don’t agree with were those about it being too colorful. Somehow people conflated those “too colorful” complaints with all of the other very legitimate complaints.

I guess you were reading a different thread then if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Scroll up a bit and get back to me.

See, all I needed to do was scroll up a bit. Please don’t gaslight me. There are other examples to back up what I said, but I didn’t want to quote anyone else.

An Obsidian developer has said the art needs refinement and that the lighting needs to be updated. They acknowledge that there were visual shortcomings in the trailer. The complaints people were making in this thread were not “weird,” and it is not comparable to disliking the cover of a book in anyway whatsoever.

Criticizing the visuals of the trailer doesn’t mean you don’t care about the RPG mechanics. It doesn’t mean that you should take a break from playing video games and just go watch a “movie or something.” It’s okay (and extremely normal) to criticize the things you like.

Obsidian will not change the artstyle :woman_shrugging: The end product will not look like whatever you imagined in your head after the reveal trailer.

The game will be tuned and will of course improve on many levels. Do not expect a different style, this is not what the last year is about.

And the game is fine, we do not help Obsidian by focusing on aspects they are not strong. The game director is a Nebula Prize nominee, they are very strong in story telling and RPG aspects, that is what we should focus on.

Can I say those comments from a supposed Obsidian Developer on a particularly dodgy forum are odd to say the least.

MS are allowing Obsidian…but you work for Obsidian…so why not ‘MS are allowing us’.

To also openly say you don’t like past Obsidian work…yeah…I mean…I’m not suspicious at all…why would an Obsidian developer post there saying that…it just doesn’t seem likely…also to say ‘oh we are managing expectations’…hmmmm
