The first gameplay for Avowed has been revealed in this new trailer. Coming 2024

I think the same, Obsidian has come to do what they were doing and its fine while InXile is going to another level with the support of MS.

Obsidian will be unleashed, but not in the way some people expect (increased visual fidelity). Like Phil mentioned in the Giant Bomb interview, their goal is for each studio to maximize their strengths when developing their games. And I think Avowed looks good and will look more polished by release.

A few years ago, the CEO of Obsidian clarified that they would accept being acquired only if the team would continue to do what it always does, without turning into a ā€œtriple A machineā€, with the only difference being that there would be more care in their games and would no longer have to worry about funds and budgets.

Yeah but the ā€œanother levelā€ of InXile seems to be in the same scope as Avowed or TOW2 ? There is a pretty big difference between this kind of scope and open world like Skyrim, especially if you want to put a lot of reactivity.

I was going to say, based on everything Feargus has said about the state of Obsidian and its position within Xbox of having creative freedom, this is Obsidian Unleashed - multiple quality projects being developed simultaneously of varying scale. If you want Obsidian to become a studio that sacrifices everything that makes its games great to pump out AAAA 10 hour content, you’re barking up the wrong tree and have only yourself to blame.

I wonder if if they will have all the races for character customisation.

No, only elf and human.

Ahh was this confirmed in an interview?

Yep, this one : Exclusive: Obsidian breaks 3-year silence to spill the secrets of Avowed, its next big RPG | PC Gamer

  • You have an established role as the imperial envoy, but your ā€œpersonality, appearance, and philosophy and vibe you bring to that role is up to you as a player to decideā€
  • You can play as a human or an elf, but not other races
  • It’s purely singleplayer—no co-op
  • The world is lightly systemic: think water and lightning interactions, but not the ol’ bucket-on-the-head trick
  • You’ll have two companions with you at a time, with their own combat specialties and, of course, personalities
  • There are several ability trees to progress through, and you won’t be locked to a particular class or playstyle
  • You will level up, but the focus is on unlocking abilities rather than putting points into stats to grow stronger

I’ve watched the trailer multiple times and… I think it looks good? Some scenes look a bit flat, but a game like Avowed is expected to have a ton of locations and expecting top tier graphics without balooning devolpment time and budget is unrealistic.

POE2 was a special game for me and and I’m happy to see another game set in Eora. It will have been 6 years of waiting. If we wanted Fable-like visuals, we’d likely need to add another 3 years of waiting. At some we have to accept that some games will have incredible visual fidelity, while other games will trade off the fidelity for faster content creation.

Avowed seems to be sharing a lot of design similarities with The Outer Worlds. First person perspective, two companions, the world being split into smaller zones. I imagine it helps a lot for the two teams to share design principles like that, they can directly share tools, various lessons as well as smoothly transfer people between Avowed and TOW2.

Me personally I’m fine with the graphics, they capture the deadfire feel imo. Plus they have time for even more polish. While I would want a bigger scope. I’m not that bothered. Fable and starfield will cover the big rpg needs.

Avowed will have to be one of those games I try and it wins me over because Not to be controversial…I haven’t enjoyed a single Obsidian game and were going all the way back to 360 era. The one that came closest was Alpha Protocol and that game was a technical mess at launch

Not even New Vegas? How is that even possible? If you don’t like any of their games? What i get is that you basically don’t like any Western RPG’s then.

Does this mean you also don’t like Bethesda Western RPG’s to? How about InXile? All of Xbox 1st party RPG’s that are coming are all Western. If you don’t like? I think you are in the wrong eco-system lol.

Why does the game has to win you over ? I dislike Flight Sims, I do not go in any thread giving my opinion about it. This is ok for a game not to be for-all, I see that even as a quality. Compare to movies, the worst ones are the one for everyone.

I don’t hate them. I just never get far in them because they don’t peak my interest. The only Obsidian game I’ve beaten was Pentiment so I go back on the never enjoyed comment. I forgot that was an Obsidian game so I guess that’s the only 1. Although I’d have to put Pentiment in different bracket.

Bethesda I only care for ES. Fallout I’ve never been high on though if they remade New Vegas I might give it another go. Dont’ care for that setting. Outer Worlds was very disappointing to me and If I was going to like an Obsidian RPG game it would have been that one. The story didn’t grab me neither did the Characters.

WRPG’s I’ve enjoy are Witcher, Mass Effect(this series I absolutely love) and ARPG’s like Diablo. I understand they made PoE but I’ve never played it.

InXile’s game looks far more interesting to me but even that is not high on my hype meter.

I’m not a WRPG fanatic. Ask my Opinion on Fable…

I’m just talking about what i’ve seen. Flight sim is a completely different genre of game. IF you don’t like it you won’t liek anything like it. Avowed is a game I could like I’m just saying my Expectations are low.

We have different taste. I think you clearly like JRPG’s more while i like WRPG’s more.

In terms of JRPG’s. I like Persona the most. Used to like Final Fantasy a lot, now not so much.

WRPG’s are my main thing. Xbox buying so many of the Studios that make them is why i’m all in on the Microsoft Eco-System now.

Fable is a OG classic. Fable 2/3 are not so great, but the 1st one is. Don’t tell me you also don’t like Fable lol.

I tried SMT3 Nocturne and didn’t like it, I tried Devil Survivor and didn’t like it, I tried Persona 5 and didn’t like it. You do realize how pointless it would be for me to expect that Atlus would somehow fundamentally change how they develop games to better cater to my taste?

I dont like the SmT games that much but love persona, they arent thw same really. their new game looks incredible though. The one rpg obsidian made that i dug was Alha protocol but the budget was insanely low and it had horrible launch.

I dont like fable as much no. Yes i do like jrpgs more but actualy wrpgs are of higher quality most of the time. Mass effect 2 is probably the best rpg ive ever played. Jrpgs have been going downhill last 10 years bar maybe a handful of series. But im not a huge rpg enthisiast to begin with. My genre is action and action adventure or souls like games.

When i had an OG xbox i bought it for 1 game. Ninja gaiden. I played fable for 2 hours and sold it. I played morrowind even less than that. Jade empire…couldnt get into it. Kotor? Im not a star wars guy. Granted i was younger so rpgs didnt click with me. I played games like DOA Halo and conker on my xbox and of course Ninja gaiden which is legit top 3 game of all time for me.
