The first gameplay for Avowed has been revealed in this new trailer. Coming 2024

I like the pics. The trailer is ok to me.

I like the fact they are not doing Skyrim. Skyrim exists, you can have it, it is also a Xbox Studios game. ES6 will come in due time. Obsidian is making its own signature.

I think tricky thing about this game it isn’t the CGI trailer, but it seems the whole art direction was changed. I think more people were intrigued with the art style that was first shown.

One thing Microsoft needs to fix with some of their showcases is giving us a 3-5 minute gameplay demo in showcase. Ideally I would love a deep dive like starfield, but I think an Obsidian game needs to show details of features and how gameplay looks.

the afro textured hair looks really good in this game.

the game was rebooted at some point, i think we got the info. It also came with the fact Obsidian realized they did not have to copy Skyrim.

OBsidian is not trained to do AAA. An increase in budget due to acquisition should only lead to a perfectly made game as they want, not as a copycat and awkward version of other big studios.

I wish they had realized a Skyrim size (and all the stuff Sponger claimed) world wasn’t gonna come to fruition. We could’ve had the game by now, ah well.

As someone who absolutely would love bigger size games from them I hope they will grow in terms of employees and will make something that is their own “Skyrim”. That was one of the first wishes of mine once they became part of the Xbox family. Much higher budget, scope etc. But I have to realise it doesn’t always work like that.

I really don’t think the reveal trailer and the new one are very different. How many caves with “balrog” in it did we see in the new trailer?

The Living Lands are very diverse so we will probably get a lot of different locations with different feel to them. But hey, let’s ignore all the lore.

I am just glad they reworked it early when they came to the realization that the size of the team couldn’t make it a game that large.

So many studios you hear of get tunnel vision and don’t pivot or change course that it ends up in development hell or just mediocre with a lot of issues

Now is the best time to play PoE 1+2 for the story and lore. Just play on story difficulty and explore Eora to be ready for Avowed.

And more importantly to join the Hiravias fanclub.

You can bet that from here on out they’ll be focusing all the press materials on the Oblivion-looking stuff in those screenshots and hiding the bioluminescent plants biome.

Precisely, pointing out flaws in logic isn’t “dogpiling” or disagreeing with an opinion - especially when claiming something doesn’t look like a game it absolutely looks like to try and provide justification for your claims. No one is saying you have to like the art style but claiming you don’t like something because it doesn’t “look like PoE” (when there are literal side by side shots proving the exact opposite), instead of simply saying you don’t like it turns an opinion into a false claim, it’s that simple. That’s not dogpiling or trying to say someone’s “opinion” is bad, it’s simply pointing out that the justifications used to prop up the opinion are wrong… thus calling the intent into question from the offset.

And this…

Yeah, I have started Pillars 1. So far I have gotten pass the tutorial area and have reached the first town.

I find the choice of having combat be automated a little weird, since I can mostly only target a specific enemy. I also need to find out if the skills are on a cool down, or if they’re meant to grow in the number of times I can use them.

You put it much more diplomatic than I would haha.

I think it’s quite clear there’s a lot of constructed narratives around this game, with a lot of people talking out of their arse.

For those complaining about the art style being too bright and colourful, Jez mentioned on Xbox Two podcast that the early gameplay bits he saw were more colourful than what we see now. So, it seems they are trying to create a art style balance by not being too bright nor dark.

I mean, I don’t care. I’m fine with how it looks. I’m simply pointing out that early CG trailers can be disadvantageous for setting expectations. Like with Recore back then.

lol they literally doing what they showed characters doing in the cgi trailer and more. you are confusing what was actually shown in the cgi trailer with what people’s expectations were based off the cgi trailer.

The tone is definitely different. For people not versed in pillars lore the gameplay reveal would be a bit of whiplash.

Does it matter though? Still expectations. Good thing is they don’t have to announce stuff early anymore.

I don’t see it. The reveal didn’t say much, and the very last bit could just as well have been in the new trailer.

You don’t see it, but the reaction from casuals says something though.

people really need to accept that the “Obsidian unleash” dream will never ever happen. even with MS backing-up.
