The folks that didn’t like Starfield use every opportunity to talk about it
Is there an option to hide threads on here so that I can only focus on the game-specific topics and threads? I‘m quite tired of these ‘narrative‘ and ‘discourse‘ topics. They‘re fine to be had, of course, I just kind of would like to block them out for a while, just to enjoy talking about the games I currently play.
In the topic, scroll to the bottom with the last post in it. Under the share, bookmark, flag and reply options, you’ll see a drop down list that usually says normal. Click on it and select “muted”. That will prevent that specific topic from appearing for you.
Thank you so much!
Honestly, it’s a perfect storm that’s created by PS fanboys, the anti-Bethesda crowd, the media etc. This game was primed to be attacked from day one. The game’s reception will change overtime when the rage baiting slow down and if Bethesda continues its post launch support( alongside mods, dlc’s etc). Also for better or worse, it’s reception coincide with Xbox’s, so if Xbox’s reputation improves, people will look at Starfield again and reevaluate, especially when it gets more improvements in the future.
“No you guys starfield is actually a hidden gem! The reviews were a referendum on the state of Xbox and it’s only taken us ten years to admit it”
lol, it’s funny, but people are starting to say Quantum Break is a hidden gem due to Alan Wake’ recent success among critics.
That’s what I was alluding to
On the most recent DF Direct, John was just talking about how the first 3 years of the Xbox One generation were actually great for first party games but they didn’t get recognized because the console itself was so disliked.
At first, I thought the Xbox tax thing was a little bit ridiculous. However after a media outlet basically admitting that Quantum Break’s reception was tied down to the reception of the Xbox one, maybe there is some truth to it. I honestly believe now that games like HiFi Rush would have been in the 90’s on metacritic if it was released as a Nintendo exclusive.
It was in the 90s, PC Gamer released a very odd, very VERY specific number that took it out. Was really something to see.
I can I think it is really down to the issue that XBox bought the studio, not that the game doesn’t have some issues mind but sure the bashing of the game is really over the top and IGN review was a bit below that outfit credibility
I don’t like some X Box fans playing the victim card all the time making out how the whole gaming world and gaming social media have a vendetta against all things X Box
Yes, absolutely. I agree with you. It is not the whole gaming industry, indeed most gaming outlets gave it a very high score. Anyway, with what is happening with AI and MSFT being at the forefront of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if some journalists are taking it as a personal mission in order to slow its growth. Anyway, both Starfield and Call of Duty are pulling crazy numbers which means that the average consumer does not care what IGN, Metro etc. thinks.
I think the trouble is no one bothers or buys printed media and so only all the main gaming news and reviews outlets are so dependent on online views and clicks Since the PS5 has such a big userbase advantage over the Xbox gaming news/reviews outlets and going to try and reach out more to the PS5 userbase and to me that’s reflected in a lot of the negatively to Xbox even from Digital Foundry since they need people to like and sub to get their revenue from YouTube. I don’t like it but get why it’s done.
I also think that some XBox fans play the victim and symphony card a little too much when some of the issues affecting XBox are of XBox’s own making.
I get the feeling there’s a real contentious issue in modern games coverage which has gone unnoticed thus far, i.e. the line between professional journalists, influencers & shills has been totally blurred.
Just look at the controversy today surrounding Spirritea & Mike Rose, i.e. who got demolished on Twitter because he ‘dared’ expose the actual truth about how the industry works: companies pay streamers & youtubers to play their games.
That’s a ‘battle’ which Microsoft has evidently lost. This social media/influencer bubble has been growing for ten years & it’s now reached the point where people are clicking on videos uploaded by ‘content creators’ who’re presenting their opinions as good faith appraisals of a particular games without disclosing the fact they’ve been paid by the publisher. This is scummy, irrespective of the attempts at damage control (particularly in other era right now). Attempting to handwave this phenomenon as creators just ‘getting paid for doing work’ crumbles as soon as we see them all pretending their opinion is unbiased.
Ergo how many of the big youtubers & streamers with hundreds of thousands of followers presented a negative opinion of Starfield for ‘legit’ reasons… versus those who’ve got their hands in the Sony cookie jar. That’s a question I believe needs to be asked & no, it’s not a conspiracy theory.
I remember that used to be controversial AF, we even had Xbox paying streamers to say good things about a game and they got dragged for it last Gen.
I hate how content creators( streamers and YouTubers ) have become so arrogant just because they have get a lot of views/followers. One prominent YouTuber just arrogantly told people who criticized him that they have millions of followers who listen to him when the topic of MW3 being deserving of low scores came up. Just because you are influential, doesn’t mean what you are saying is 1.) true 2.) objective 3.) or really has weight that they think it has. Social media and the YouTube platform really brought toxicity in any type of entertainment communities in a whole new level.
Gaming discourse went to shit when those content creators primarily YouTubers started gaining clout and shaping people’s opinions and forming narratives. New game comes out that most people are liking, two weeks after launch YouTuber guy or whatever uploads a video about how it wasn’t actually good and people start changing opinions or being wary of expressing their actual opinions. Since I saw this happen in like real time with Bioshock Infinite I don’t think I enjoyed gaming discourse as much after that.
I dunno about this. Microsoft were paying content creators probably before many others did. I don’t think MS have much issue with YouTubers. I think the problems are some of the more traditional games media.
Funny considering the many hit pieces before and after Starfield’s launch, constant comparisons to games that have nothing to do with it, and people getting outright attacked for simply posting gameplay. Not to mention the myriad of other shit I can bring up.( like IGN constantly "forgetting to add Xbox in the lists of Platforms certain games are available on for example ) Xbox fans aren’t “playing the victim” Xbox fans are speaking up because they’re sick of getting gaslit everytime they dare to point out the obvious discrepancies when media covers other platforms that aren’t xbox.
