The discourse out there is pretty bad after Starfield

I think you haven’t seen the “Skyrim is not an RPG”crowd. But they are a minority. A loud one, but still a minority.

As you said, “a loud one”. Human nature always focalizes on the noise (imagine a white painting with a black dot somewhere, all you will see is the black dot).

Skyrim is a hugely successfull and appreciated PC game.

QB is an excellent game. It was running like shit on release (very bad resolution for example), but now it is a better experience - to me - than Control.

Rand pointed out the article on this weekend’s Xbox 2 podcast. He was amazed to learn that critics evaluated Quantum Break not on the game, but on the platform that it resided in.

(Cued to the appropriate discussion.)

Also listen to the whole discussion about the Xbox Tax- it’s a great listen.

This would be surprising if it didn’t literally happen just this year and the reviewer said it out loud in their review…

The first 3 years of Xbox One had a great lineup, it was in many ways better than PS4’s at first, a lot of those games got dismissed and hated on, they were condemned for being Xbox One games :person_shrugging:

This would have been surprising at the time but now, nah. It’s not a surprise. If anything, it’s expected.

The first year of ps4 was abyssal. The console launched with Knack and Killzone, both were forgotten as soon as they launched (knack was forgotten before its launch in fact). Both were absent from the ps5 collection of games that Sony offered to early adopters. Ps4 gamers were forced to worship games like The Order, “the bouncer” of the ps4 generation. The first 3 years were not so great, it changed after that for the best.

The main problem with Xbox was that the 1st party games were mostly 2nd party and when those deals were too expensive to do (because of the gap between the sony and M userbase), then Xbox was naked with very few studios.

So nauseating. I don’t even follow these accounts. Think I’m just better off muting Starfield on twitter at this point.

They’re also literally taking every article they make from reddit. The Starfield dropped below Skyrim player numbers one as well.

THat’s today’s journalism for you. They just steal from r/gaming, r/games or console subs and create articles. I saw a thread about that yesterday, and now we see these lazy journalist create articles about it. At least show some effort if you’re going to go this route.

I have every one of those accounts (including IGN ) blocked lol. Also, seems like more people are starting to take notice.

If that post is right and this is one of the best multiplayers in years, that’s pretty telling.

They can’t accuse everyone of being “salty xbots” or dismiss things as “conspiracy”. Not like they’re even trying to hide it at this point. Personally I haven’t been into COD MP since the original MW2 , but I’ve seen nothing but praise for the multiplayer from those who are actually playing it!

Stay with “following” instead of “for you” and you’ll be fine.

Considering how ‘bad’ this game is, they can’t seem to stop talking about it. It would be interesting to compare how many times these ‘journalists’ drop the name ‘Starfield’ over any other big 2023 game.

We did get a tweet showing that Starfield had way more articles written about it than any game that has come out recently. I think it was like 3x more than any other game, at this point it’s likely 5-6x more.

Reddit is totally ridiculous at this point. I just saw a heavily upvoted post where people were criticizing Bethesda because there was a queue to play Starfield on Xcloud, with comments like “Why is there a queue to play a SINGLEPLAYER game?”.

I don’t know if people are that stupid or just malicious at this point.

It’s on reddit, so…

I wouldn’t assume the two are mutually-exclusive

I honestly do not understand all the hate for Starfield. I had a blast with it, from beginning to end and I am looking forward to my next run. I understand that “Starfield hate” was trending so all gaming journalist and influencer had to jump on it but still coming out with new articles to shit on it is ludicrous. Hopefully Microsoft was able to let Bethesda devs know that they did a great job.
