That’s hilarious. Xbox fans left, Nintendo fans left and PC fans left. The only large community that didn’t have an exodus from resetera was Playstation.
I’m really just interested in getting news at this point, not opinions. I value information about game releases, their content & updates about the platform I play on (which is Xbox). Opinions are tainted these days, i.e. tainted by bias, agendas & everything in between.
I certainly don’t trust professional reviews either. Information I find pertinent gets glossed over, like how does a game run on the Series X? How do the gameplay elements actually work (I was surprised for example to find out the mind place stuff in Alan Wake 2 cannot be failed, ergo it’s not really an investigative mechanism, it’s just an exposition dump).
Stuff like that is important to me & helps with my purchasing plans (like a buy now, never or wait for sale type approach).
Does “the discourse” affect your enjoyment of Xbox as a platform? I am also on the other ERA OT - which I agree is a safe haven and perfectly fine to talk things Xbox - but whenever I’m outside of that, things get bad really quickly.
Most of the time I just want to talk about the games itself, without the negligble 3 pixel difference in graphics quality between PS and Xbox; and without the meta-discourse what that specific game means in the console market. This seems so hard to find, and is one of the reasons why I’m more and more turning into a patient gamer who stays outside of the hype circles except for select releases.
The Xbox OT on Reset sucks. Too many doomers and just generally negative people there. There’s also a handful of prominent posters who clearly don’t give a shit about Xbox but spend all day in there and love pointing out every negative thing they can find to talk about. It’s so obvious what they’re doing but the mods do nothing about it.
Ex-ERA OT guy here and I strongly disagree ERA OT being a good place to talk about Xbox.
There are a bunch regulars in that thread who are unable to say a single positive thing about Xbox, but instead ignore or downplay the good stuff, and immediately pounce on the negative stuff instead.
If these people consistently talk about Xbox only in a negative way, then why would they even follow Xbox in the first place?
Leaving Era behind was the best decision I’ve done in a while, and I’m so glad that this forum exists.
Beat me to it
It’s unfortunate because there’s some genuinely good posters over there but the loud ones ruin it for everyone else. Would be great if we could get some of the better ones to come over here but they don’t seem to want to…
I just find the hypocrisy and goal post moving on gaf and era hilarious. Spend years hammering things on Xbox, then as soon as Sony start doing it pivot to universal praise. Curreny the usual cretinous sony shills on gaf are expending their energy telling people why gaas is now a great idea on playstation, it has to happen to help Sony make the games they like. Absolute morons.
like I said I don’t expect the game reviewers to nominate it as they’ve made that clear. however, I don’t see that with developers. I don’t expect game developers to go by critic scores just look at the previous years and you’ll see what I mean. I also haven’t played BG3 but I do recall the earlier discourse online from developers wasn’t great about it. That said I just think the metric is different with other awards. I mean Vampire survivors won over Elden Ring and GOWR at the BAFTA’s
I totally agree still playing Starfield though.
Yep. It’s really odd that people think Geoff personally picks these games lol.
Yup, I’d get it if Starfield was the crème de la crème of the RPG genre but I don’t think that’s the popular consensus at all. I also don’t think it’s that polarizing either, it’s just simply great game in a year full of other great games.
I view it polarizing because how extreme some of the takes are. The negative takes view it as an awful RPG game and it just brings people to go out of their way to hate it. While people that enjoy the game rate it highly. I feel this game def generates a lot of emotions, but maybe it calms down over time, which I think it will
Agree about that point where it’s just a tough year with BG3 launching in the same year and even the cyberpunk DLC. Anyways, the game is solid and it’s at a 85 OC. I wouldn’t be shocked if it didn’t get nominated because it’s one of the toughest years ever . At the end of the day the nomination doesn’t change how you enjoy a game, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more positive stuff about the game.
Well, I think it’s comparatively fine to talk things Xbox there, at least compared to the rest of the site which is often outright nasty to anything Microsoft. But I agree that the dooming there can be way out of proportion for what is actually happening (e.g. when they think console exodus is happening again after each hardware sales report…). As I said, the whole internet discourse around Xbox is starting to get on my nerves in those places as well, so maybe you’ll see me a lot more here going forward.
You’d have a point if it was just a great game that wasn’t compared to other games not even in the same genre. Seems like every new release (and some old ones’) is compared to Starfield to try and shit on it. No other game has gone through this for this long. No other game has hit pieces aimed towards it from actual journalists with clear bias.
So, no. I dont agree its just that there’s other banger games Starfield is up against. There is, but it would’ve been nice to let Starfield stand on its own merits without all the hate and vitriol around it like every other game enjoyed. The game has its flaws but so does every banger released this year. And every banger has haters or people who didn’t enjoy the initial experiences of those said games. they just seem awful quiet about it. Starfield…not so much.
I know the ones you’re talking about and I always roll my eyes at the constant bad faith takes from them that nobody calls them out on ( for fear of getting banned likely), still better than discussing xbox in any other thread there sadly.
Also do people here really take the Keighly awards seriously? lol! As was already mentioned it’s an advertising show at best not a celebration of gaming, It’s only good for new trailers. Which can be watched on Youtube right after they show them. Last time I sat through that shit show , they were introducing TLOU for the first time. Any “award show” where METRO UK is part of the jury that picks games is not worth anyone’s time.
I realise the gaming industry is desperate to be “taken seriously” but this show ain’t it.
I agree with the second part of your post but I’m solely speaking about the GOTY list, not specifically the discourse around the game.
Oh, definitely polarizing in terms of discourse on social media. I meant more so the reviews. I do hope it gets nominated though, I wish a bunch of games were nominated haha.
Geoff needs to expand the number of nominations.
Yeah, I lurked on the Xbox thread in the other era for long time, even was thinking of making an account there but ever since a lot of the core members( people who actually contribute) got banned there, the quality of the thread has gone down. Also there are certain people who are active there that intentionally bring negative discourse, and even admitted before that they troll the thread lol.
About Starfield, it’s a overhated game that is gonna get better overtime due to expansions and mods. The noise will eventually die down when the herds of sheep move on to another hyped game to sh*t on. I just hope when/if it gets the Cyberpubk treatment, people would actually have the same energy and give it the props it deserve, but they won’t lol.
You’re writing like Starfield is bad, when I don’t think most here would agree. It doesn’t need cyberpunk style fixing
Let’s cut down the talk about other forums, in general it’s not allowed as it leads to toxicity in the end
Definitely not implying that , Cyberpunk 2077 was always great but plagued with technical issues, same with Starfield, it’s a great game with the best quests that Bethesda produced since Oblivion, but is plagued by some questionable game design decisions which I will give them pass on because of the size and complexity of the game. I’m just saying if it gets even better, I hope it gets the recognition it deserves, not for my personal satisfaction, but for the devs that worked on it(and is proud of it).
