Yeah I don’t mind the sub for the most part but every time starfield gets mentioned you get people going out of way to hate it.
Talking about Starfield in a positive way in Reddit would send a signal to the hate brigade and start rushing your post in droves and flood it with hate post. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time. I like the part where they gaslight you and call you out for “toxic positivity” , whatever that means lol
Spider-Man 2 has had toxic idiocy around it, I’ve still never seen anything to the level that Starfield has had though. You can “both sides” it all you want, but they aren’t really related and it’s an order of magnitude crazier when it comes to Starfield. We need less a vs b comparisons, it drives discourse into the ground.
I’m definitely done with Neo, it keeps getting worse, right now they’re picking apart an internal memo Spencer released, like he lives rent free in their heads, straight circle jerk hating on Xbox in that thread and some of the posters are even bullying the pro Xbox guys with 0 freaking bans.
So tired of that shit, I’m done with that site.
It was an old habit of mine, i.e. clicking on the homepage of gaf or reset just to see the latest gaming news because the latest stuff always had a thread.
But for a few years now (& increasingly so), it’s just one console wars focused (& entirely cherrypicked) article after another posted by a biased OP followed by a barrage of warrior posts hating on all things Xbox (& an insufferable overuse of gifs & memes as well).
So I’m not going to those places anymore. I’d rather take my chances with IGN & other sites to get the latest gaming related news rather than rely on Sony astroturfers for news.
Again I am reminded that site still exists, but seriously Neogaf was always trash. I was there for the purge of anyone even remotely positive on Xbox, during Bish’s tenure as mod. What an absolute shitshow that was. When it finally imploded people claimed that Resetera would be so much better. Sure! So long as you just post in the one Xbox thread otherwise it’s the same shit as Neogaf.
According to icon era, NeoGAF and reset era are biased towards Xbox and those forums are full of Microsoft astroturfers while there aren’t PS astroturfers at all (true story). It’s like they live in a parallel dimension where Sony is this small and humble startup facing the forces of evil…
Yea with the neogaf site split all we got was a right wing oriented sony forum (Neogaf) and a left wing sony forum (Resetera) nothing really changed except we got 2 major gaming sony sites out of it.
Problem is there aren’t any real gaming journalists on any of this site. They all usually gather the information from twitter or any of these forums. I think the best thing is to just stick with your following and visit some of this community focused sites like here. The real journalists to me seem to go to the big news sites like Bloomberg for example others are more newly formed like Axios , those do real work like investigative reporting and fact checking. IGN 90percent of the time doesn’t even know what’s going on in the industry or how it works. Sometimes I think their bias just comes from not being well informed.
On Starfield I do wonder if Keighley includes it in his awards as he panders a lot. IGN did not get an IGN first with Starfield and Microsoft seems to be pulling more towards doing their own marketing beats. Many said Keighley was on Spencer a lot during E3 and Aaron kept running into him at TGS. It seems like he is really trying to get Xbox onboard for this award show as Microsoft now carries a huge part of the gaming industry with ABK. I don’t know if Starfield will be nominated at Keighley’s show, but I think it will be at the D.I.C.E awards and probably win there too as the judges will be developers and I don’t think they have love for Baldur’s gate and they can see the real genius of starfield.
Xbox has always been a big supporter of the TGA’s. They revealed the XSX at the show for goodness sakes haha.
Also Geoff doesn’t pick the games. It’s a panel of like 100 + gaming outlets that selects the games.
Exactly. It blows my mind how often people say things that suggests they’re not aware of this. Geoff has no say in who gets nominated, and no say in who wins. It’s all laid out on the website.
Several of the Qs in this FAQ goes over the process:
And here’s the page with what outlets are on the jury:
I don’t think anybody should be mad if Starfield doesn’t get nominated. It’s one of the most stacked years of all time, and I can see arguments on why there are 4 other games getting the nomination over Starfield. I feel with Starfield’s current reception there’s a good chance it doesn’t get nominated because those it’s reception is too polarizing.
I think Starfield and HFR not getting nominated is a lot less of a slight this year than say, Forza or Ori were in their years.
But I also think this unfortunately plays into the whole “Xbox has no bangers” narrative which is unfortunate because both games would be locks in other years.
Next year could be very telling. If it is lighter like it seems and games like HB2, MSFS24 and Avowed deliver but are still ignored, it will be very suspect.
Like, an Xbox exclusive has never been nominated for GOTY. At what point do we need to raise an eyebrow? Because they have had games that deliver but are conveniently ignored.
I don’t know also not mad as I don’t consider Keighley’s award anything other than a marketing show. The game sold very well which to me says the general public liked it. The polarization I see mainly from reviewers many of which to me are biased. It’s like someone was comparing the cutscenes to Cyberpunk saying the creation engine was bad only to be checked by a CDPR dev saying making cutscenes for a game like Starfield with limitless possibilities would take forever if they tried to do it in a similar way. This is why I think it would get it’s due at D.I.C.E where the devs understand what they are seeing and what went into making it a reality.
Yes, they have always been a big supporter, but they didn’t show anything in 2022 but instead had their own show. I’m not saying they won’t support it just that there’s no guarantee they’ll show up big. I understand Geoff doesn’t pick the games however I do tend to think he has influence over it probably since seeing the Death stranding thing.
Uf as a Bethesda games’ big fan and a RPG fan, and having played these 2 games, it’s hard to imagine that happening, any dev who played BG3 can see the crazy things they achieved, and i imagine it will win most awards. Deserved tbh.
I don’t see Starfield being nominated as this was a very stacked year, with a lot of 9/10 games, i think Hi Fi Rush has bigger chances, but as i said it competes with many other great games.
Not a fan of the argument here that reviewers or VGA devs are biased against Xbox, kinda reminds me to Gaf banning “ElAnalistaDeBits” or hating Digital Foundry for being enemies of PS.
FM got a 8,5 in MC despite releasing in a not so great state with bugs/crash etc, last time i checked the game was sitting at a 3/10 on Steam for example.
Hi Fi Rush got a near 90 MC score and was well praised, Starfield got like a 8,3 which is also good, Wasteland 3 was a 85 if i remember correctly? despite it being almost unplayable on release, i don’t see unfair scores there.
Awards are useless now. They were at some point to have a vision of games you may have missed during the year, that is how I used them.
I do not like TGA because the guy is playing on platform antagonism to run his business (for example, with the player award).
With gamepass, who cares.
For Starfield, the game is above 10M player and will be sold and updated for years.
Hifi-Rush is “only” 3 million sold, a bit of visibility could help.
Given the fact critics have to vote for Starfield to be in the running for TGAs I don’t see it having a cat in hells chance of being on the list. Those that loved it will probably pick another game to avoid controversy and those that didn’t love it won’t vote for it anyway. I don’t think it had enough critical love to make it for a game that was divisive amongst critics.
My game of the gen though.
