The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I think almost everyone will agree with you, but that’s not the problem.

But if you start releasing games on other platforms we will always have the question “will this Xbox game release on other platforms as well?”

It’s a storm in a teacup. The usual bad faith actors trying to make out like this means Starfield or stuff like Halo will be going multiplatform but it’s not that at all, by any stretch.

I like HFR but it’s one niche game that is even more niche, by far, than Ori when the same people melted down over it going multiplatform.

Xbox first party studios are in a far better position now than then and people need to touch grass and remember what’s yet to come.

My hot not fully informed take is, people appreciate consistency and certainty. You want to be multiplatform, be multiplatform all the way. Case by case doesn’t cut it because it’s more uncertainty for both your platform and other platforms’ players. If anything, going all the way is gonna make your organization and games be better perceived, let’s not pretend otherwise…

I’m going to wait for further news before i put out my full thoughts.

But I really don’t mind if it is true. Gamepass is the only thing I’m interested in and is the sole reason why I have a Xbox. As long as that remains the case, I’ll continue to have a Xbox.

The future @Shpeshal_Nick talked about, with the potential hybrid console architecture that they can put in high-end tv’s and cars? Now you have 300+ million “xbox” out there. Their own platform becomes a home console that can cloud compute to work in other devices, their own PC store, mobile, and pure cloud. Something far more varied and sustainable than the current console-focused approach that PlayStation is doing.

It will also be funny if Sony’s guidance on PlayStation is accurate when we get their figures soon, because then it just flip flops to “sony ded” for a while.

Yeah that too I guess. Though it needs to be seen on what state Xbox platform will be in a few years from now after this hypothetical scenario of going multiplatform. Though to be fair if they are going for the big money they need to release the big guns (Halo, Gears. Forza e.t.c.) too and not only the smaller/less important exclusives.

I think no one would bat an eye if Xbox release their games on TVs and cars. The problem is the release on PlayStation and Nintendo.

Hi-Fi Rush is one of those “case by case” games because it’s a niche game and therefore not a system seller. So why bring Sea of Thieves too? Because it’s a GaaS? So why not porting Halo Infinite too? The question will always be this: what will be the line drawn?

Hmm, this thing will generate a significant disarray in the community, also media/influencers will make believe every Xbox game under the sun will go multiplatform sooner or later and it can create a ripple effect (if minor, until bigger games get ported) in the business, because average dude believes what Google index says. That for some bucks more? I don’t get it.

Sea of Thieves hit a wall and is not really growing anymore. Releasing it on other platforms gives it a second wave and new life.

I don’t think this is a bad take, but clearly the general public can differentiate between Hifi Rush and Halo Infinite.

Anecdotally, I don’t know ANYONE personally who has played HFR but have several colleagues knee deep in Starfield.

I don’t think there’ll be nearly enough chatter about this game to dent long term confidence in the brand. Xbox have so, so many first party studios working on an avalanche of games and one niche game we all played for free over a year ago might go multiplat? It’s a nothing burger.

Do you really think Xbox is going to make a lot of money by releasing Hi-Fi Rush on Switch 2 and PS5? What you get instead:

  • Piss Xbox fans off.
  • Non-Xbox fans start to think any Xbox game could potentially reach their platform, bc the case by case basis isnt any criteria in itself.

If Palworld were on PS too, many people would buy one just to play it in addition to its exclusives, having something that gives you identity is important as a brand, but maybe they wouldn’t be interested in that after seeing the large amount of money they will earn for own the CoD machine.

How about “you want day one instead of guessing? Buy on Xbox”?

Agreed and I feel the same way.

At the very least, Microsoft should give the rest of this generation and all of next generation to see how it all plays out now owning Bethesda AND ABK.

I have always looked at this generation as a “reset” for Microsoft that will lead them into next generation and beyond but it will be a massive shame if they don’t even give what they’ve been doing since E3 2018 a chance to actually succeed.

I would’ve made my peace if it’s only HFR and I would conclude that it’s a request from Tango because they’re Japanese and want their game to be available to the Japanese audience, and Xbox didn’t want to refuse and sully their relationship with their only Asian studio. But SoT, and more games are being talked about as well from reputable sources…

I just bought an XBox for Palworld

Got 2 years of game pass as well so I’m all in whether they support other consoles or not.

Also add the inevitable:

“When will game X come to PS and Switch?”, “Should you get an Xbox now that Xbox games are going multiplatorm?” “What is the next Xbox game that will come to PS5?” clickbait headlines/articles and youtube videos for the rest of our lives.

Tell this to the media.

  • start releasing games on other platform

  • future games will have an Asterix if said games is really exclusive

  • media will write article about it and will probably mention past examples

  • people will Google the game and will probably find said article especially when it’s from a big publication

  • read article and the conclusion is wait for the release because it has a high chance that it’s coming to my preferred platform
