The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Well, the rumors are certainly all over the major gaming news outlets now, so it’s not just Twitter and forum fanboys discussing this. We’ll find out sooner or later. At least these news pieces came out before today’s show. I have hope that the games tonight will be excellent and that they will be the major talking point. It’s been too much business these past few years. That’s for a reason, but still something I noticed.

Good point, Sony would probably have preferred MS to continue playing by Sony’s rules e.g. timed exclusivity, 1st party exclusives. It would allow Sony to have no fear of losing to MS, because they are already set, thanks to the XB1. Not saying Xbox wouldn’t have done better after these acquisitionss, they would have but overturning Sony’s lead in consoles is almost impossible. Xbox needed to change the game, to be relevant in any meaningful way and they are doing that.

Sony just talked about PC, mobile and Cloud and Xbox has been already doing all those things. Sony is so far behind on mobile with MS having ABK now, with CoD mobile launching this year, which will end up being Xbox’s biggest release this year with more than 40million registrations, 4x that of Honkai Star rail another huge mobile game.

All these huge social media accounts love to pander to Sony’s consoles sold milestones; I’m waiting for the day they have to share that Xbox has overtaken PS in revenue.

Another point EVERYONE seems to ignore, is you DO NOT have to be #1 in sales in a given category to survive or even thrive.

This all or nothing mentality may apply to Sports but it does not apply to business.

Very soon Xbox could be #3 in hardware sales but the #1 platform holder in gaming revenue.

Also in situations like this would you tell Pepsi to close shop cause they will never sell as many cans as Coke? Pepsi has a diverse portfolio and makes tons of money even if they are not the #1 soft drink in the world.

In many industries the second or 3rd place player provides good products/services to consumers and it is more than worthwhile to keep doing that even if you are never #1.

The gaming industry/community REALLY needs to get over this #1 or nothing bullshit, it really is just a projection from fanboys and has seemed to take over the entire gaming community for the worse.

Basically people need to fucking stop this bullshit and enjoy the games wherever you want to play them and stop fucking worrying about every little thing.

Sony is royaly fucked in the future when we eventually go to a post hardware world or even when local hardware starts to decline like it is now with Physical game sales.

Not only is their business model not up to par for the future they won’t have much of an inroad to really build their first party back up AND their fanbase has been trained to only like local hardware and single player AAA games that even if Sony does pivot at some point their own fanbase may turn on them.

It is EASILY the best time ever to be in the Xbox ecosystem, we got tons of games coming out and the actual console hardware is great regardless of sales numbers. I WISH this community would just chill out on freaking out about every little damn thing. The gaming media will always be in Sony’s pocket and gaming discourse is clearly geared to praise Sony and Bash Xbox.

These things should simply be ignored as they have little impact on the actual gaming hobby we all can enjoy.

I think it was someone here that said it or maybe it was Twitter, but it’s clear we won’t get a very clear answer soon on this. It’s complex, because it just won’t be a straightforward answer. Since Xbox clearly will keep day one releases exclusive to their ecosystem (Satya’s words about competition) and who knows how long until they aren’t exclusive anymore, probably quite a while I would guess.

And then much older games probably coming outside of the ecosystem, but who knows, if the HFR rumor is true, that’s only a year old now.

And those same news sites also just ran stories about something @Shpeshal_Nick supposedly said, but we can verifiably prove he, in fact did not say said thing… so the media reporting on it means absolutely nothing. The moment people realize media outlets aren’t some bastion of truth, and are visibly proving that fact across industries every day, the better…

It’s just a collection of “my take” on the matter, which important to know, not confirmed. There’s no other place to go but wait.

Honestly, they shouldn’t be expected to clear things up because its bad PR to answer rumors imo. However, if they’re not going that route, then they can improve their wording on how they present games. I do feel we’ll be left in the dark about whether or not its happening or not. My preference of course would be for Microsoft to say something this year, but they’re not obligated to say anything until it happens

I’m getting off this roller coaster.

At first I was discouraged and disappointed with the idea of some games going to other platforms.

Then I relaxed a bit as no immediate news occured.

No all the journalist a week after the discussion are making articles. It’s almost as if they know it’s happening and are trying to prep us.

Either way I’m out (of the conversation) until something tangible occurs. If it does maybe I go PC/Steam Deck 2 in the future with PC game pass.

It’s almost as if they know how SEO works and are capitalizing on it. They don’t “know” anything, if they did they’d report it as a major scoop.

Oh look… I was right again. Straight from the horse’s mouth (you know just like the Sony document I sourced). So is it time to close the thread or should we leave it open for all the apologies?

/slight sarcasm.

The point is, as I said before, Sony is literally following Xbox’s lead years later and we’re going to be seeing Sony games on other platforms beyond PC (we already have with Destiny, Marathon, MLB). All this means is that the old definitions of “first-party” no longer hold any weight because that definition has evolved with market conditions; nowhere is there any indication that Sony or Microsoft would be giving up the massive revenue stream of their ecosystems. As usual, this was a manufactured controversy to distract from the Insomniac leak which confirmed Sony’s first-party releases were going to see broader platforms (even before this direct CEO quote); it’s called hyper-normalization and happens literally every day in politics (different industry same exact tactics).

Where is this from? Is it new?

After looking at what’s been going down at Sony and that Developer Direct that just dropped, I can understand why they needed that FUD when they did.

Yep, I’ve been labeling these as coordinated, manufactured controversies (read: propaganda) precisely because the timing of all these events (remember the 343i hit piece attempt by a certain journo a few years ago, released right at launch; Naught Dog’s crunch report was pushed out well before TLOU2 release; examples go on ad nauseam). The moment people stop eating up every line of bullshit these propagandists put out, the better.

I vote for this topic to be closed.

I hope not, because it will spill over to other threads.

Yeah, true. Didn’t think of that.

This thread will stay open to keep the other threads free of the never-ending circular discussion
