The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Yeah, it’s also really irritating that Xbox personalities add fuel to the fire. At least this last cycle of stupid takes helped me to cut even more youtube channels and X accounts, you can see who is riding the wave.

I think we’ll probably (maybe?) hear something tonight during the D.D. Just having this rumor circulating the internet is doing damage to the brand. I can’t believe Phil hasnt come out and said anything to calm the madness. Even the D.D. tonight will potentially sway gamers interested in buying an Xbox. But they’ll probably hold off until they know for sure there isnt aa chance that those games will come to competing platforms.

Microsoft needs to get their messaging on point! Its been garbage for far too long. The more I think about it though; why would they start handing out First party IP when they’ve just started building the brand with new IP from their newly acquired developers and publishers? Like, you spend $100 billion dollars to build your brand just to start handing out your IP to Sony and Nintendo anyway? That’s nuts!

That’s where I’m at as well. Why get the dream team together, just to basically disband before even trying. Doesn’t make any sense to be honest. They’re at the strongest they have ever been. Now is the time to strike!

It does not make sense, even the most detached from gaming white collar would understand the concept (going along with the theory they need more revenue), that’s why it’s all fud.

@McMasters I don’t think they will say anything about this, because they know they have ABK games and possibly other Bethesda remasters going multiplatform, so they could not use absolute certain wording and then doing another vague statement would not help, on the contrary. The issue is that not locking down everything outside contracts is a policy issue, you don’t really know where the line is drawed.

Exactly! Once they have more exclusive IPs established, then I can see them maybe, MAYBE sharing some IP’s. But doing this now makes no sense. its like putting the cart before the horse

The thing is with all the rumors I’m not even sure it’s all fus anymore. I’m like 60/40 on this. They’ve made some bad decisions in the last honestly so it’s somewhat hard to tell at this point. I really hope they know better.

I mean, people made big rumours about a second PS showcase last year, even “respectable journalists” and then…nothing. People speak about Switch 2 since 2021 and PS5PRO since 2022. The bigger the noise doesn’t mean it’s true.

I can agree with this. But games like HFR or SoT definitely shouldnt be in ANY conversation for going multiplatform. These games have helped in defining the platform. They should continue to do so by releasing sequels that stay on the platform as well. If there is no chance of these games coming to competing platforms, Phil should come out and state it publicly. Allowing the conversation to continue is a huge mistake. The Xbox platform seems unstable now. Xbox gamers shouldnt have to wonder about the platform they’ve invested hundreds if not thousands of dollars into. Thats just not right…

If they indeed DO plan on releasing these games on competing platforms, they need to be transparent with that, too. Let us know what’s going on so we can plan accordingly. Gaming is a luxury. its only fair that we have the choice to continue treating it as such.

For sure, Nate and Grubb have had it wrong in the past so not all could be true that’s for sure, could even be old info.

The way I see it, with what they have now, the ARM strategy with 2026 early release could work if they have some banger exclusives at launch to drive adoption. Having the most powerful hardware with brand new, big exclusive titles (one can hope for ES6) could pull some users from other systems that want the latest and greatest, even those who want the best version of COD or EA Sports FC.

They have all the tools needed to make it work, would be sad to make them drop the ball without at least giving it a go with all they’ve got. Could definitely work.

Until further notice, the (thin) line in the sand they drawed is that XGS and Bethesda games stay on Xbox platform outside “legacy games”, which means old remasters and ongoing games. They didn’t say nothing specific about ABK outside “COD on everything for 10 years”.

If anything happens to change this line, they must answer it obviously, but I don’t think it’s the case, Phil himself admitted Ori on Switch was more trouble than what was it worth.

Agreed. But a decision like this one can effect even next generation. As, if they begin this change in strategy, people will stray from purchasing even the new console, new Ip’s Gamepass…literally the platform as a whole. I’m really hoping this is all rumor and conjecture If not, Phil and Co evidently can’t read the room.

Now even Tom Warren is in on it.

Yeah, it’s really a collection of nothing, like I said “respectable source” is an ever shrinking circle.

Every company is not above criticism, but man… It’s bad enough that Xbox gets shit on enough from so many outside sources in gaming media, but to continually get it from our “own guys” is equally frustrating and exhausting.

It’s a small breakdown for those less in the know, which is what The Verge goes for a lot. The mainstream that look at this from the outside and are confused at the consternation.

At the very least, Warren’s article feels like the least hyperbolic of those I’ve read on the subject thus far.

Just ignore it, no matter what ends up happening Xbox has the biggest first party in gaming and your games and the Xbox eco system will live on even if hardware goes to away, and if it does that will probably be in a couple of decades when the entire industry has moved to the cloud.

Just like with physical discs declining and becoming irrelevant the industry is changing and if those changes are not something that people can handle they will need to just find a new hobby. It’s not the end of the world and does not warrant all this crap.

As we have seen Sony’s model of 300 million dollar 12hr 70$ walking sims is not sustainable and I’d certainly rather MS/Xbox insulate itself from depending to much on a single out of date business Model.

Imagine if MS never pivoted to gamepass and steam and was still trying to beat Sony at their business model and relied ONLY on console sales? Xbox would probably be shutdown by now.

The Sony model is old and broken and even Sony can’t keep it up as seen by all the studio issues and margin problems they have.

While people will always TRY and use direct Console hardware sales as some barometer Xbox very soon will eclipse Sony in gaming revenue because they have a much wider and diverse strategy.

That’s because Tom is a professional and dispassionate when doing his job of being a journalist.
