The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Doom has been multiplat so it makes sense to continue it that way. I had always thought one of the reasons we never heard of a new Doom or Wolfenstein was because they wanted the teams to work on something new that could be exclusive not having any ties to multiplatform. An exclusive Doom will just start another wave of media bashing. If the next Xbox is 2026, I doubt the games will be multiplatform as Sony will not have a console ready by then, at the most they could be time exclusive.

Who cares? There will be media bashing until Xbox has more units in homes than Sony.

At this point its port begging because Xbox has the games.

It’ll be exclusive at the jump and on game pass. If Microsoft wants to port it a couple of years later, there will be other games exclusive at the jump in 2027 to take its place.

I absolutely loath that they threw yet another annoying narrative on top of all the others. Doesn’t matter how great the show is all we’re gonna hear is “When’s it coming to PS5”

I mean, Xbox should have seen it coming. Every time they make a statement about exclusivity, we are left with more questions than answers. They should’ve cleared every possible question in their conference.

It’s tiring especially when it’s echoed by fans, Also the game started development before Xbox bought Zenimax and Doom has been multiplat for a while. It’s better to let new IP stand as exclusive while franchises that have been multiplat can continue being multiplat besides if Xbox markets Game Pass well it will be the talk and overshadow all this multiplat doom and there is a chance this game will have some sort of microtransaction, and multiplayer which Xbox might want all to engage in.

I don’t seen any “will this come to PS5” discussion overshadowing the game. It wont be day 1 and may not at all. That pretty much kills any chance of leveraging a later port against Xbox.

Look at how pitifully Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and Grounded did on PS5 with the addition of PS4.

They didnt explode to profound new levels of popularity.

The platform is struggling to sell its own exclusives, let alone old Xbox ones . Its all bark and no bite.

It is what it is. I think Phil is doing the same thing he did when he pitched game pass. That was born out of him following the success of Netflix and now with GamePass slowing down he’s using David Zaslav as his blueprint. That might be complete nonsense but when I frame the last 6 months against what Zaslav did with Warner Bros things make a whole lot more sense.

I just wish that Phil cleared everything about this whole exclusivity mess. I mean, look at Microsoft stances in these different kind of games:

We have the new Doom game, which is rumored to be a multiplatform game. You can argue that existing franchises will stay multiplatform, but in the FTC trial documents we can see that Microsoft confirmed TES 6 as a Xbox exclusive.

We also have Indiana Jones, a game which Microsoft literally paid Disney for it’s exclusivity. On the other hand, we have the Blade trailer, which didn’t mention Xbox anywhere.

And then we have Sea of Thieves and Grounded, which went multiplatform while other GaaS like State of Decay 2 stayed as exclusives.

I fail to see a clear definition of what is going to be exclusive and what isn’t. Microsoft needs to communicate better.

That’s because a clear definition doesn’t exist

While that’s true, it depends on whether or not Microsoft is even looking at that when making that decision which I personally don’t think they are but your guess is as good as mine.

If it aint MInecraft or CoD, expect it to be Xbox only at release. Blade included.

The discussion on other platforms will be decided post release and isnt going to apply to every game.

I don’t think any narrative can overshadow the game, still it makes more money if it is available on more platforms unless it booms on PC or the Xbox app and is able to either sell a ton there or severely increase Game Pass subs as I doubt Xbox can magically sell like 20 million or more consoles. They are going to need to find growth outside the console for now which is why they decided to use the other platforms. I’m skeptical they will keep using the PlayStation as well as they look for permanent ways to expand the market but for now it is something they can use.

It is true games on PlayStation aren’t selling but as I said like Hi-F- Rush this may be a case where the game has been in multiplatform development prior to us hearing about it. The good thing is the game is coming to Xbox and will be on Game Pass as well.

I think you should check out the below as it gives a good explanation of what’s going on.

As a reminder I reported to two CEOs of Square Enix for the better part of a decade and ran a subsidiary. I also correctly predicted last year that Square Enix was going to break exclusivity. I'll note I have no confidential information that I'm basing my arguments on.

To start,…

Didn’t they have an email leak that said they were making everything from Bethesda exclusive? Maybe I’m remembering wrong but I could’ve swore I saw something like that get leaked during the ABK trial. If Doom is a day 1 multiplat there was definitely some sort of strategy shift there, just what exactly that shift is no one really knows. Also the rumor of it being fully multiplat could just be wrong and Doom is exclusive. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

It was during under-oath questioning. They paid to make Indiana Jones exclusive and Phil stated in an email it all would be. Plans have obviously changed, though.

I personally consider it a mistake at least not to make it timed exclusive to empower your own ecosystem. You wont make that much upfront but they bought Bethesda for a reason I guess.

Moronic if true.

If it’s multiplat will get a review bump at least

Welp, there goes the “They’re not big AAA games” coping mechanism.

Satya and Amy Hood won this battle. That’s pretty sad. Looks like they were unwilling to follow Phils long term plan, because short term was rough. Only way to combat this disastrous PR would be making Xbox run all windows games and that won’t happen for atleast another 2 years. In the meantime you’ll have the brand name go through the gutter.
