The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Hmm is that early evening? Admittedly I gave up on it a few months ago as was constantly getting queues

So maybe they’ve added capacity, or maybe it’s segmented by connection type so I’m in with all the Xbox One users rather than browsers

Typically anywhere between 6-10pm, just depends on kids, work etc.

I think the nearest data centre to me is London (I’m in Essex).

It is rumored that he next Doom game will be multiplatform. How would you feel about that?

Indifferent. Honestly, I think every game that has been traditionally multiplatform should stay that way, especially if it’s part of a continuing story.

I have come to peace with the worst case scenarios already

Doom used to be always multi-platform, so it does not help Xbox to build its own identity. You can think of how Square Enix struggles with their exclusivity deal with Sony, even though their IPs have a long recognized history on Playstation. But I am hoping they can keep Starfield, Avowed, Indy, Blade exclusive since they are easily marked as unique Xbox games.

Doubtful.

A similar story from history: Should Xbox buy the exclusivity of Rise of Tomb Raider? We all knew it was disaster to Microsoft and the franchise itself.

Stuff that was previously multiplatform will most likely stay that way in some fashion, either by being everywhere at launch or a year or so later. Would still be smart to keep some kind of exclusivity for like 6 months to a year in my opinion, especially for heavy hitters, but at the end of the day I don’t think it will change much in terms of hardware sales anyway.

Eventually TES VI will be multiplatform too, probably not at launch but then again there really is no telling the what and how. MS has been making moves and they are unpredictable. Whatever happens, happens.

They still have a few years to decide. If they do attempt to launch new generation in 2026 and If Elder Scrolls VI can be a launch title, I think they’ll most likely keep it exclusive. Imagine if they launch a new Xbox with CoD, ES VI and a new Halo and/or Gears game.

I want to believe in that but 2026 sounds too early for TES VI. At the same time I do believe that 2030 like some believe is too late though. More like 2028. 5 years of active development.

Hence the “If”. Personally, I’m expecting late 2027. They don’t need to upgrade their engine since they already did that, so it all comes down to how ambitious Todd plans on being with the game and how quickly they can pull things together. I feel like putting together an Elder Scrolls will be a lot easier than a completely brand new IP that deals with new challenges in game design.

Maybe I’m still being too optimistic, but optimism is all I have left in this shitty cesspool of a hobby.

Good news. More people can play it. The studio can make more money.

And I have a feeling it will be quite big, Todd that is.

But yeah, we’ll see!

If Doom isn’t exclusive then I can’t see them making TES VI or even Blade exclusive either. It could just be case by case like they said but I can’t see any reason you’d make Doom fully multiplat but then have TES VI and Blade be console exclusive.

Blade isn’t a long-running franchise of games for the dev

By the time TES and Blade come out we’ll have a much better idea of their plans.
