I agree seeing meltdown now is a bit confusing other than the influencers sticking the knife in winding people up im not sure where it’s come from
I believe the timing with “exclusions” from games that already been doing since dawn of time. I think the tipping edge was Monster Hunter, even though the context was very required to understand how it was able to pull that. So yeah, it’s timing that did the damage more so than announcing what’s already a heads-up.
Gaas games can not live without communities and we see people are very volatile, you need as much exposure, good press and activities as you can get.
Imo, Pentiment is very niche and was just shadow dropped, if Hi-fi Rush was considered having poor sales this I think, it’s going to sell really badly.
Hi-fi Rush drops 3 days before Dragon’s Dogma 2, so I think it’s going to be over shadowed and sell badly.
Sea of Thieves and Grounded have a much better schedule and are not as niche as Pentiment, so they have a good chance of selling pretty well.
Imagine if it wasn’t only Xbox doing this, but also Nintendo and Sony dropping a few games on Xbox. Kinda like Sony shipping Helldivers 2 to Xbox, because honestly, what other GaaS do they have? Lol. And Nintendo, well…pick a game.
It just sucks that it’s only Xbox doing it. The negativity also wouldn’t be nearly as bad if they weren’t the only one.
Curious to see how other XGS studios feel seeing Rare/Obisidian start to make more money from multiplatform games.
Right great question!
Think about it this way - what if SoT and Grounded do well to the point where Sony’s own GaaS efforts struggle because they would be competing for player engagement against these games as well
There’s nothing quite like Sea of Thieves in the gaming market, hence it has been doing so well. Grounded may not do as well, but it is still appealing and unique enough as a survival game.
Also apologizing if I came across negatively earlier, I’m a weirdo for wanting my library in one place and I felt Xbox is the only console giving me that, and thought that’d be the case for a long time to come. I know an open platform like a PC is the only right answer here and I should have seen that long ago. But yeah, it will be okay and we’ll play games, the question is just will we play them the way we expected them to play in the future, I guess
You should look in the mirror, you’ve been begging for attention just as much as the people you’ve been calling out.
Would be hilarious to see SoT nominated this year after several years where they not only should have been nominated but should have won at least once. Actually a shame how overlooked their effort is.
Please wait 10 minutes between posts in this topic
Eventually yes but if they do this stuff too fast I do think they will do irreparable damage
I think it’s the future for all platforms but just like XB1 rushing into things before the world is ready, baby steps xbox
Nobody would give a rats ass if the others were doing it, it’s what everybody wants in truth but like you said, when only one is doing it, it makes the others look better and the other worse
No one would be negative if this was the consensus strategy.
But it clearly isnt.
MS isn’t going to make their business strategy based on what Nintendo or Sony are doing. And vice versa.
I mean the damage is already done. X1 made the hardware brand unappealing.
XS generation hasn’t fixed that. The sheer fact that the Series S was the only console available for like a year or so is probably more damaging than releasing GAAS on other platforms.
Phil, Satya and them are probably aware of your point and will slowly bring their GAAS to other platforms rather than rip off the bandaid.
Don’t apologize for "negativity " it’s your feeling and opinion and you were not toxic, hateful or hostile about it.
There is certainly a good angle here. What Xbox is doing could maybe even be the best decision they’ve ever made but I think they just packaged it wrong and now meltdowns on twitter, news outlets reporting it in the wrong light. I just hope this isn’t 2013 again.
It certainly should be interesting to see how well SoT will do. Especially since the much hyped (by Sony Twitter accounts) Helldivers 2 isn’t doing as great as you’d think and apparently it has its biggest success on PC. It would be quite something if SoT tops it.
Yup! Well, not everyone wants it. The most extreme of fanboys would have a meltdown like there’s no tomorrow if Sony were to give/ship games in return.
Unfortunately.
This is truly interesting and would make for a great article. Especially if it gives though studios more wiggle room, bonuses etc
As loud as the Twitter meltdowns are, they do not reflect the gaming community at large. You are being generous with calling gaming media at large as ‘news outlets’, considering how bad, selective, and/or inconsistent they are at reporting news lately.
