It damaged them of course but I’m talking even further, they have a decent sized core base out there and they should be trying to keep as many of them for next gen as possible, they rush into this too fast and they risk losing even the diehards
They need that hybrid console out there too, they need something that makes them stand out more and refresh the brand because being essentially Playstation but less appealing isn’t doing them nay favours
True that, but also some clarity on who is making these ports. Was it Rare themselves that worked on the Switch and PS versions? Was it Obsidian and Tango who worked on those versions? Game development takes really long as it is, and ideally these XBOX GAME STUDIOS solely work for that.
But I doubt we’ll learn anything about that, sadly.
Hey at least Hi Fi Rush is getting a physical edition finally. Only took them shipping a PS5 version for it to happen. But Lemonade out of lemons right?
There are too many dynamics at play this time to try to draw conclusion where this could lead, it’s too early to tell and I wouldn’t be surprised about whatever outcome.
Maybe but they made a dent in 2013 and made Phil, Sara and Matt have to do a podcast. Also, Xbox is not a casual console, it’s mainly filled with hardcore that pretty much are all over YouTube. This maybe a nothing burger it certainly is to me as long as they can bring my library to PC and other devices like the handhelds.
It probably doesn’t mean much unless there are bonuses tied to game sales. Otherwise they all get paid when they make the game and nothing more than that. The game could sell 2 copies or 2 million and not much changes for them.
So the tricky part has to do with bonuses tied to revenue. Bonuses are often tied to metacritic scores.
Oh Helldivers 2 is doing great. Like really great. If it wasn’t for the overloaded servers, it would do even better. So we shouldn’t really compare Helldivers 2 to Sea of Thieves.
Different games, different success.
Yeah, I’m afraid of that too. Not a good thing at all if that’s the case. Pete Hines didn’t say it for shits and giggles when he said Starfield would have released later had they not stopped development on the PS5 version.
You want everyone at Obsidian that can be on Avowed and ToW 2…on said games. Same for Rare and Tango. But there is nothing we can do about that. Best would be if they find another studio or studios for it. Xbox/PC needs to be priority number one.
I dunno … looks like “they’ve had a drop-off of over 15% of their players”. That’s what the Gaming Media would say if it was an IP not associated with Sony or if they kept the same energy.
Speaking of success, it sounds like only Steam is doing the lifting. Plus, SoT is already success as it is, but they want more so here comes open platform approach. With Sony, enough is never enough. Not saying it will happen tomorrow, but if they want to go with that approach, this would be among the contender.
