The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Didn’t Sony just reduce their projections?

I believe PS5 had a sale over Europe this past week.

So? Let’s wait and see what happens, unless they will now manufacture way less consoles or something.

We shall see.

The big problem stressed this week with the current consoles is that their manufacturing cost do not decrease with time, on the contrary. What was beautiful with past consoles is that you took a bath early on, then later it was free money when the costs were decreasing much faster than the MSRP price.

Profits will be much lower this gen.

It’s typically a waste of money to sit on a bunch of stock, so yeah they might manufacture fewer consoles if they don’t think they’ll sell them.

You know why they’ve had no discounts? Because they can’t, it costs them too much and once again, they can sell as many consoles as they want, ITS NOT HELPING THEM

Their profits are horrid no matter how many consoles they sell, you need to stop looking at console sales as a measure of success

That is the very disruptive thing that the community has yet to absorb. Too many years of mental conditioning.

Wall Street is no fanboy and very cynical. Looking at Sony results on Wednesday, the stock value of Sany dropped 1000, which is not nothing.

From 14500 to 13500.

It dropped like 6 points in a day.

People have used it as the measure of success for these companies for the last 30+ years so I get why people jump to it everytime but they’ll learn soon enough

With Playstation being such a major part of Sony it’s to be expected, those were not good results or projections

There is. Phil said they won’t do it if it harms Xbox. And he said they arent going to port all their games, they are aware at least that thats a big nono.

Yep. They used to but they don’t any more. The Series X and PS5 will still be $500 in 2028. So either next gen is going to be extremely mediocre graphical leap (which will cripple the market when phones catch up) or they will be $699 and cripple the market, which is already unsustainable.

Xbox will have a massive advantage with cloud. They just need to sort out that Apple situation. But even if they don’t a cheap cloud dongle platform at $149 will clean up.

I’m very much obsessed with growth."

Yep. That quote says it all.

It has been part of their plans since 2019/2020 according to the documents leaked in the FTC case. Dont know where this narrative of higher-ups forcing Phil to make these decisions its still around.

Well thats the thing, they cant reduce the price or their profits will implode even more. What do you think happens in the next gen if they dont change how they operate? A lot of people are actually expecting the console market to shrink this gen too.

Take into account if it werent for thr pro consoles, gen 8 would havo sold 10M+ less consoles than the past gen.

GTA 6 will probably move a lot of consoles in a quarter but it wont do much to change the trend.

Sayin things wont change much in 10 years is stupid specially when we are seeing the cracks of the current business models.

I’m now seeing hardcore Xbox fans on Twitter going “I’m a Xbox fan, not a Phil fan.” and I’m like…where the fuck did this come from? Sure, be a fan of what you like.

But let’s not forget that without his efforts Xbox might not have been around now. Without his efforts we would not have had Persona, Yakuza, Tales, Mana, Danganronpa and several other Japanese games. When he took over we got One X and Series X, it was about power again, and it will be again with next gen.

Nobody needs to kiss the ground he walks on, but I do hope folks don’t forget this.

Yes. The next step will likely pull Nintendo into the substantially more complex content production pipeline that goes along with more advanced hardware to get substantially better image quality – unless they stick to their games looking exactly the same as they do today.

The difference is now we have the receipts to say that both SONY and Xbox business are not sustainable in the future and thats why Xbox is pivoting in a different path.

The problem of Nintendo is that they are not a 2.0 company. They need to reinvent themselves to be succesful. If the next console is Switch 2.0, then there is a risk their own market does not feel the need to upgrade. Nintendo consumers are not tech-friendly, they do not see the limitations of the current model and are perfectly fine with it.

It is very much funny that the week where we heard the chief finance officer of Sony telling us that Sony has to change in order to survive , all the talk is about the port of years old MS games to other consoles.
