The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

There should be a limit, I think small games like Hi fi rush, Grounded, Psychonauts and other Double Fine games and Pentiment are fine but that should be it, it is clear to me that they’re starting small because they know announcing any of the following (Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Starfield and Indiana Jones) now would actually do impact their console sales right now and would’ve just continued the existing backlash in the community so I’m not expecting those type of AAA games in the next year or two especially if they will start a new generation soon but they more than likely will eventually, especially if these games do well on the other consoles, like you said.

I kind of wish Sony was also playing ball a little, Helldivers 2 on Xbox for example would be nice and would do well but let’s be real here, Sony is never going to do that and if anyone here thinks they will all I have for them is this image, this will be the people expecting Sony to do the same thing on Xbox eventually.

Listening to the recent defining duke podcast…its clear to see that some people should just give up covering xbox becasue they dont fundementslly understand how thr industry works or how xbox percieves the future of this industry.

Too many people stuck in an outdated mindset.

The industry is changing and changing rapidly, in just a couple of years we’ve went from being “oh Sony will never bring their games to PC” to “ok they will bring some games but only a few” to “ok they will bring every game but they won’t be Day 1” to the inevitable Day 1 games very, very soon and it’s already started with Helldivers

The next 5-10 years and the industry will look completely different to what it does now

It would be very nice, especially after those mofos get SoT, Grounded and so on. But I don’t see it either. I honestly think it’s gonna take quite a while before Sony is going to follow MS in this, quite a while indeed.

The Quick Resume alone is reason enough to stick with Xbox. I’m currently playing Persona 3 Reload, progressing through Tartarus, but I need to stop playing in a few minutes, but there’s no option to save while climbing floors. I can simply turn off the Xbox and resume from that exact point. I’m still a bit perplexed as to what Xbox’s future strategy will be with exclusive games, but Game Pass, Quick Resume, the ecosystem and backwards compatibility (every now and then I keep finding new gems from the Xbox 360 era) are enough to convince me to continue building my game library on Xbox.

This - you can say Sony would never do such and such, but look how they are being pulled towards the same strategy, even if it’s done reluctantly.

I think ultimately they do because that’s the way they think the market is going. The trick is to not be there too early, so I think they’ll need to move slowly and adjust according to how the industry moves.

I don’t get the idea that they intend on throwing away Xbox for other ambitions, but growing in a way that doesn’t hurt Xbox.

Sure it’ll be different but apart from Sony releasing games on PC and Streaming day one I don’t expect anything more, while 5 years from now, hell maybe not even that long I can see Microsoft releasing all games on all platforms at launch, even if there’s another Xbox console generation I don’t expect there to be more after the next one.

I don’t see it happening in the next 10 years, by the time they’re willing to Xbox as a console probably won’t even exist.

They’re literally already getting there too early by the upcoming move, I don’t see any other console manufacturer planning to release games on Xbox after a few years and I wouldn’t expect it either if I were you or you’ll just be waiting for something that’s not going to happen on Xbox ever.

And I would venture to say neither will Playstation as a console - 10 years is a lot of time for some technological advancements that we are not ready for.

And I would say that you’re going to be wrong on that, I remember when people were saying, a lot of people, that consoles would be dead in a decade back in 2013 and they were dead wrong, I don’t know on Xbox but I expect PlayStation consoles to be here in 10 years.

The replacement for ‘consoles’ as we know it today will become the new equivalent in the future.

10 years? I know some here believe it will be much sooner. Well, we’ll see. But this is why it is very important for Xbox to take it easy, I am sure there will be more after the four games but they should not rush it.

Wait at least a year or longer with shipping games elsewhere, give it a proper chance to shine on Xbox hardware first. Phil Spencer said they want new people to get interested in Xbox, I’d say you do that by giving them some games and when some great new stuff releases and no indication at all when it might head to PS5 these people might decide to get Xbox too.

People really should pay more attention to Sony’s financials, they’ve sold a shit load of consoles this gen and yet their profits are worse than ever, selling all these consoles isn’t doing them any good, not to mention they are selling even less consoles than last gen at their current rate and projected to sell even less this year

I don’t know what the future holds but Sony is going to have to make serious changes going forward, that is simply inevitable

Consoles might still be around but they likely wont be seen in the same way they are now, they wont be about the only way to play a game anymore

Not to mention costs aren’t what they were 10 years ago, costs keep going up and set sales are not, there’s only so long you can keep going with the same old strategy before you have to pivot

Currently, this same person is the one in charge of SIE - I don’t think Playstation’s fundamental strategy will be the same in 5 years, let alone 10 years.

I’m kind of done paying attention to everything Phil says, not long ago it was about games where Game Pass exists, now it’s something else, 3 years from now it will be something else, it’s clear to me he isn’t the one making the big decisions over there.

PS5 also hasn’t had discounts as big as PS4 and GTA6 isn’t even out yet, GTA6 alone is going to increase PS5 sales by huge margins, especially when everyone out there will think the game os PS5 exclusive, something Sony is really good at, PS5 is easily going to be above 80-90 million sales by the end of next year and will easily surpass the PS4 lifetime sales, hell it will probably be nearing 80 million by the end THIS year.

And I think they’ll be here making consoles that sell over 100 million each generation.

When the Sony CFO himself says their sales are going to decline starting from their next fiscal year onwards, you should pay attention.

And those discounts are not coming this generation - their manufacturing costs do not allow them to do that.

The industry has changed and the way I see it is everyone has different way to stabilize. Xbox is trying new things to bring more attention while (currently) having a safety net with CoD and King on their backing. Sony is trying to do similar success as PS4 but profitability isn’t translating the same due to cost raise and financial challenges. That’s what Ryan trying to pursue with PC and live service. As for Nintendo, they’re the most stable; however, I feel they’re afraid to turn to the next chapter because of their history and potential new challenges awaits them in next gen era.

We’ll find out if they are too early, nobody knows right now. Being early or first is not necessarily too early. It’ll be a gradual procces and they are dipping their toes in so they can pull back as soon as it looks like a bad move.

I remember them being surprised at the success of the PS4 because they weren’t expecting it to do so well, I don’t care about those predictions, I’ll talk about them when they actually happen.
