Thanks! The responses from Phil highly suggest they are working on a handheld huh?!
I really wished they had said something similar in the actual podcast RE: these 4 games being a learning experience to see if it’s valuable/viable for both Xbox and Xbox customers.
Nintendo will do it to. Just way later. I think if both sony and xbox makes handhelds plus all the other ones like steamdeck and rog its gonna eat into nintendos marketshare
I certainly have more confidence after the podcast today. They’ve assured me of their commitment to hardware, powerful hardware at that, for the next generation. And also that Game Pass will continue to be my preferred way of gaming.
I don’t really look beyond that kind of time frame, who knows what the console gaming outlook will be by that point. I know some people still are concerned about losing exclusives and eventually third party support. But I think there are many reasons for people to continue investing in the Xbox platform, and they will do, beyond just exclusives. I don’t need Xbox to “win”, I just want them to provide a vision of gaming that I’ll enjoy going forward.
Okay, got done watching it. It was really nothing. They not leaving hardware… In fact, they will announce more hardware lol.
The games being ported were also nothing. 2 GAAS, and 2 small games that barely sold anything. The past week of overreaction by people were the most funny part.
They think there is a trend towards less exclusivity but he is not committing to anything as what they expect and what might happen are 2 different things. Also, he was asked if Starfield would release elsewhere and he said to never say never, not as a sign that it’s coming “wink wink” but that you don’t make any bold statement in the present not knowing what will happen in the future. They even said it in the podcast not to expect them to open the dam, as it’s not happening.
Could you expect stuff like Towerborne in 2025 or 2026 on other consoles for example? Sure, it’s a small project that might not sell like crazy. But they are not releasing their bangers elsewhere for good reasons and you could tell from the podcast they understand the market. They also mention if this negatively impacts the Xbox user base that they’d rethink this strategy as the goal is to help grow it, not the opposite.
Just people on the internet trying to spin this into something it’s not.
It was a well-curated PR piece that didn’t really say that much we didn’t already know other than there’s four, smaller games that are definitively going multiplat first. None of the other rumors pertaining to any other game being considered for a multiplat release is wrong. I would argue that a handful of larger games are definitely going to go to other platforms also, either because:
The smaller games didn’t sell well and they want to test some bigger games to see if that’s a worthwhile means of generating additional revenue.
The smaller games did sell well and they want to release the bigger games to make more money.
The podcast was basically 20 minutes of Xbox leadership saying they’re still making hardware, some games are definitely going multiplat, others will likely follow, just no concrete decisions made on those future games, and they see gamepass as a key feature for selling current and future Xbox consoles. Phil saying he sees exclusives not existing in ten years is all you need to hear to know that more games are coming.
