The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I really doubt their games will come to Xbox. Their playerbase is already pretty big, that’s why MS needs them but not the other way around.

I believe they will go harder with PC, day one releases and such.

What a shocking turn of events. Who would have guessed actually paying attention to the data would lead to sensible conclusions.

Maybe it’s just lost in translation but I notice he says multiplatform and doesn’t commit specifically or only to PC… The wording definitely leaves it open to more.

You never commit before you have to in business

Sony includes the Portal handheld in their “console” sales, and I’m fairly sure the Pro will be a thing.

The way I see it is the industry is unsustainable in its current set-up, i.e. something entirely attributable to the industry itself. They built these mega publishers, massive dev teams, expensive games & flooded the market with lots & lots of software, monetization, services & all the rest, i.e. with the expectation that people will bite & splash the cash on their offerings.

So considering the receding growth of hardware sales (the PS5 now lags behind the PS4 at the same time in its lifecycle, as does the Xbox Series versus the One), I’m honestly not surprised the people fighting over this small piece of the global consumer pie are looking at stuff they can cut out of the picture in order to access more wallets, which in this case means the hardware cost of entry into the ecosystem ($500 for a console, more for a PC).

The place this is all naturally progressing towards is as clear as the nose on my face: streaming games over the internet without dedicated hardware in our living room, except a controller.

But will the consumers follow? I don’t know. I think game consoles & PC’s are in & of themselves an integral aspect of this hobby, i.e. something which cannot be removed from the picture. Games aren’t movies. They’re a time & money investment. It’s not the consumer’s fault or responsibility when the ‘industry’ has grown way too big & requires unsustainable profits to continue growing. There’s a finite amount of humans with the will, time & money to spend on games. Going multiplatform won’t change that.

It’ll simply result in another game selling less because xyz consumer decides to spend the money on one title instead of another.

I think we’ll always have Redfall.

Edit, regarding the Sony situation: If Sony shift to smaller games, with shorter dev time and smaller budgets, it’s going to backfire with their audience they’ve cultivated .

In my opinion not even full multiplat fixes this. This requires a full reinvention of the development process to go back to Nintendo level budgets and not make “banger” games anymore. Going multi but continuing as is only a temp solution.

And it makes going PC + Nintendo look like a better path than ever, “the HD twins” seem cooked.

Imagine if Xbox had been killing it left and right, right now while Sony is struggling. That honestly would have been a sight. I guess the writing was on the wall for a while, but we didn’t want to see it.

Yep, Ninty the true market leader of the console market!

Sony’s lack of profits is shocking. I expect massive layoffs in their In-House divisions next

I know alot of us (myself included) have been angry and negative but we have to tip your hat to Microsoft here.

We were all wondering why they waited so long for a response but setting it one day after Sony’s earnings call was probably a strategic move. We now see that Sony’s not doing that great. Yes they have massive revenues for PlayStation but good lord their profit margins are atrocious. Playstation 5 missed their targets and has now fallen behind PS4 sales and it’s going to get worse.

Sony also said that they won’t have a major first party release in over a year so I suppose Microsoft can capitalize and sell some smaller and old games on PlayStation but they have to be careful. This is not the time to put your bigger games there either. Sell some games there but also try and prop your selves a bit here.

If only they still gave a fuck about power, damn.

Thats what the Imsomniac leak and now the CEO’s statement alluded, yes,

Yeah thats the main advantage they have over…the entire industry really.

It really isn’t if one had looked at prior financial reports and glanced at the Insomnia-Hacks. It’s what some of us have been saying for a while, but it was hand-waved away as simply “defending Xbox” fodder. This is also why I’ve said the Xbox Business Event should be after the Sony Financial Report. It provides additional context.

I feel like Xbox has a decent middle ground for most of their AAA games and the budgets are pretty far from Sony’s, with a couple of exceptions.
