If they get a couple of money printer type GaaS games should be a solution (that’s the intention anyway)
I don’t know anyone other than Rockstar who would be near Sony budgets. They are notorious for their overspending, this is supposed to be them being better in that regard after Kaz Hirai, lol.
I’ve prioritized Xbox and Nintendo for 20 years now. No change for me if Xbox sees the worst case scenario. Of course, I’d rather they don’t do anything drastic. I’d prefer having the ability to choose from two ecosystems that I enjoy the products and services of. If for some reason Microsoft dips that does not mean I fill that hole with Steam and/or Sony. I’m leaving that hole empty because I’d rather quit gaming than support those two.
people are just nutso. Super Mario 3D World is 10 years old originally built on Wii U and it’s still such a clean looking game and of course, it plays magnificent. again, people have got to get over themselves with this power thirst.
Yeah. For me, I have two third party console exclusives in Granblue Fantasy Relink and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth followed by two first party console exclusives in Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. No interest in Helldivers 2 though.
I see 2024 as being similar to 2021. First half belongs to Sony. Second half will belong to Microsoft. As for that no major franchise game being released before March 31st, first and foremost I don’t see how that would be a shocker since the few sequels they do have are past that. Second, they could have a major new IP from perhaps Bend Studio or Barlog’s game from Santa Monica which can’t be considered a franchise because they would be a new IP.
I never had a problem with companies wanting to make money… but I do have a problem regarding ‘how’ they go about making money & prioritizing profits > product quality & consumer interests.
It’s also horrible PR as well, i.e. giving off money-grubbing vibes is a serious bad look for any business. Earnings calls, shareholder calls, quarterly profits etc. veer into cringe territory IMO where the bottom line is almost a stereotypical portrayal of insane capitalists.
I play video games because I love the hardware (ever since I was a kid) & I love video games (when they’re done right). I don’t play to make shareholders happy.
What I meant is that MS and Sony live in the same world, where video games is a low ROI business. MS is lucky to have other divisions but Sony relies too much on VG and their stock market has been rated junk for the better part of the last two decades because no one see any profit in investing into VG.
What will happen tomorrow is just what is happening today for Sony, a call for reality that video games cost too much and need to change.
the worst part of the Sony news is them doing closer to day and date PC releases. so basically everything is just converging to Steam. sigh I really wish MS gets the Windows Store up to par. and if years later Nintendo starts thinking about doing PC releases they only do so under their own store they build so they don’t lose 12-30% of their revenue to Valve.
Their inconsistent messaging and lack of clarity/updates on different projects is exactly the hole they’ve dug. This is something fans and content creators have brought up multiple times over the years.
You and I are honestly in a pretty similar boat here. Although I may buy another Xbox just to make my current library potentially play/look better than it currently does.
I am not saying that Steam DRM is bad, I also did not say that every game is DRMed (some games are completely open). Still, I said that a large portion of those games use a DRM and this is not good that on PC a DRM like that, so prevalent and used, is at the mercy of whatever buys Valve in the future.
I would like to see the shop and the DRM decoupled.
At this point it’s gotta be assumed Microsoft is always steps ahead with their ideas for the future, but can easily fumble so much in communication and execution. Not just gaming but all their consumer products. It’s a meme that’s real lol
Yep. Even the VR/AR space, they basically had a lot of the innovation before with the Holo Lens but did nothing to grow it and commercialize it, Apple took a lot of the engineers on it and now they made the Vision Pro which is probably gonna be huge in the near future.
