The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

What people refuse to see is that the console market as whole(Xbox+PS+Nintendo) isn’t increasing in units sold. Yeah, gaming as a whole is growing every year, but the console userbase is shrinking. That’s why Sony’s model is unsustainable.

I expect a new crash in gaming very soon at point.

Yeah, PS fans are just shrugging off games like Rise of Ronin, like they’re an unplayable mess that look like a ps2 game.

They’ve trained their audience to hate every game that doesn’t follow their outdated formula with massive budgets and ever increasing development time.

Agree, this sony report is worrisome for the future of the industry and things were already looking dire.

If things dont change…

Phil to announce that due to poor profits Sony have asked to publish Spiderman, Wolvering, GOW and LOU on Xbox.

My apologies, I guess I expected this to be a place for serious discussion on gaming, if I wanted console war rhetorics I could have just used Twitter.

Do you think Xbox wil still have permanent exclusives. Cause I do not believe for a second they will put forza, halo, fable and gears of war into this multiplatform nonsense that they will do with sea of thieves, pentiment and hi fi rush. Cause that will kill the brand

If anything, I would say that having exclusives and relying on just consoles is gonna kill the brand. Sony’s financials is an example.

Oh man, how so much negativity and fears would go away if they were to announce that PS is getting Starfield (since that version had been in development quite a bit), HFR, Pentiment and SoT and that we get some of Sony’s titles in return such as Spidey 1, but also Spidey 2 since that is a more recent game, like Starfield is too.

And a case by case basis they get Xbox games, and we get Sony’s too.

Maaaaaaaan, if only. I would be so fine with it then.

Maybe. But look at Nintendo, they don’t have issues with exclusivity. All am saying is that exclusive are still going to be a thing for the time being, especially at Sony and I can see Xbox doing the same, but mostly with their bigger titles.

Nintendo’s foundation is far stronger than PS. It can easily break though if they pull another Wii U disaster, which one would argue why Nintendo doesn’t want to release a new console. As for PS, they have made decisions that are long term effect damaging, including raised prices and moving away from Japanese foundation, hence why more developers are dropping PS.

Nintendo is doing great on console sales, but their revenue is way smaller than Sony and Xbox. I don’t suppose that their model is the ideal one for the future.

It’s a wait and see moment, I guess.

What hole has MS dug? They cant control Rumours. The format is not going to effect assimilation of the news for casual, its gonna to get reposted on social media many times and probably even tv news. I agree that they cant be unclear, on a “case by case basis” is not going to cut it. People want to know there long term goals, otherwise its just a never ending speculation on what is and isn’t exclusive. “backpedaling” is just another way of saying they have changed there minds. Nothinh wrong with that in business. However I addressed what I think about MS strategy in my post after the one u quoted. I enjoy gamepass and having there exclusives on day one, however it makes me more unsure about buying a future xbox which makes me not want to buy 3rd party games on my current Xbox. If they do release 1st party on PS5 the only way I buy another XBOX os if they go the steamdeck route and Xbox becomes a custom PC with an Xbox like OS option. The only PS5 game I really care about are Naughty dog games. I hate horizon with a passion, god of ragnarok didnt fix the issues of 2018 so I passed on it, and spiderman core gameplay is repetitive and not that fun. Hell I think the shooting in starfield is more fun.

Well with the recent news looks like this is very wrong. I wonder how the “old guard” at SIE is going to jive with any possible new direction the parent corp attempts to force on them.

Things change quickly in matter of days

Very likely solely PCs, I just don’t see Sony going the way Xbox seems to be going anytime soon, if at all.

I could see the industry coverage on PC and get away from ‘custom’ console designs. At some point it doesn’t make sense to have to port to different platforms when you are releasing your stuff everywhere anyway.

Why spend R&D on consoles, dev kits, different APIs, support different versions, etc.

Trip Hawkins/3DO was like 20 years too early.

Nintendo’s games cost a fraction of the budget the others do and sell 40-50-60m copies at full price

and if MS or Sony tried to put out games with those kind of budgets, people would be talking about how horrible they look because audiences have been trained to expect bleeding edge tech and production

The sooner both MS but especially Sony recondition people into realising not every big game needs to keep surpassing the last one in photorealistic visuals, we can get back to a more sustainable and healthy landscape
