To be clear, you only quantify AAA blockbuster franchises as games?
Well Sony do…
On what basis? Because apparently they’re releasing 4 games this year that aren’t actually considered games.
Xbox was getting games in 2022 as well, doesn’t mean it wasn’t considered an absolutely horrid year for them though
People want the big first party AAA “bangers”, Rebirth is basically the closest they have to one of those and it’s third party
They’re not going to hit 21 million.
Profit margin seems terrible tbh.
They aren’t reading the room at all lol
It seems this generation consoles base users will remain the same as xbox one/ps4 or even less.
They are terrible
They have record level revenue every quarter it seems and yet their profits are basically worse than ever, ballooning budgets and AAA games needing to look prettier and taking longer than ever, it’s not sustainable
With this news I hope more than ever Xbox goes the docked portable route and not worry about this silly power narrative, Nintendo are eating everyone’s lunches by doing the exact opposite
Yeah, Sony is using a lot of third party deals to compensate for their first party drought, but this isn’t sustainable at all.
And at this point, it’s not even a drought. They simply don’t have the manpower to constantly release multiple games per year anymore, as their games budget continue to balloon.
and who knows how long that will be able to keep that up, everyone elses costs are going up also and Square seem to finally be learning that only launching on PS might not be the best idea
That is why I like Microsoft buying Bethesda/Zenimax and ABK. You can get more games at a higher cadence. It’s sad that they might be thinking of giving games to other console platforms
Welp, now we know Microsoft’s way and PS way is the path the industry should not follow. Now Im morw curious about xbox event tomorrow+
Guess we can expect that Bloodborne Xbox port announcement any moment amirite?
I do wonder how profitable it is, especially as many of these titles look quite niche and therefore may not sell very well.
Wo Long sold 1 million copies across PS, Xbox & PC whereas Ronin will be just PS (atleast timed).
Phil comes out and says we are launching some games on PS/Switch, Sarah points to a powerpoint showing Sony’s financials as to why, Matt sobs in the corner saying they should be exclusives dammit
Nintendo will go full third party before BB gets anything done with it at this rate
And their situation will get far worse with ps6 (if things dont change) so Im 100% day 1 PC releases are coming sooner or later.
Sony differentiated themselves from others by being the publisher with insanely high AAA production, they have marketed and trained their audiences on those tentpole experiences, the same hardcore audience that would then dismiss any Xbox games not matching those standards.
So now when Sony relies on 2nd and 3rd party studios with production values that seem to be between AA-AAA standard, it should be no surprise to see people shrugging those games off. People are just using Sony’s rules.
If Sony is only putting out a AAA banger every two years thats an issue IMO.
This. Only going to get worse IMO.
I heard in UK or somewhere in EU there’s a sale right now for the console.
