The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I don’t recall saying streaming would eliminate consoles as it isn’t really been launched properly for tvs. What I said was

Pretty much what I imagine is a time when the TVs will become powerful enough to run games natively.
I would like to see Microsoft release their streaming box and have it come with all the game subscriptions like GeForce Now, Ubisoft, Luna, Game Pass and any other that exist. I think until something like that happens, we won’t be able to really gauge whether streaming could be viable and just how much demand there is for it.

If that’s the case, wouldn’t it have been better to have happened at a later date considering the FTC case with the appeals court is still on going. One would imagine they would have wanted the appeals court decision before moving forward so as not to try looking like they’re appeasing the FTC.

All digital wouldn’t be necessarily bad news for me. Hell, I’ve been mostly digital since the launch of the Xbox One in 2014(here in The Netherlands) here and there I bought a hard copy but it can be counted on one hand. For XSX I haven’t bought a single hard copy.

The only worry there could be is the possibility of these games being taken away, it’s no guarantee they will always work. But I knew of that risk when I went all digital and despite that, didn’t stop.

Physical is dead on xbox, people can be disappointed and mourn but consumers have made their choice

Not to mention everything is on PC nowadays, if it’s preservation people are worried about their will always be a place to play regardless of what happens Xbox although even there I don’t expect any major disaster, worst cases will be something like Forza where licenses mean they have to pull the game eventually but FH4 is still there so it’s clear they’ve extended those licenses

It doesn’t really mean much…

Maybe most people don’t feel they need to upgrade as often as each yearly installment is not changing as drastically as it once was.

Maybe the state of the world right now with ridiculous interest rates and inflation has prevented people spending :moneybag::moneybag: on a new phone?

The amount of people with smartphones will keep increasing regardless.

I mean the problem with those is only delisting, you can still download them as long as you own them.

Oh for sure, I thought the argument was that if you never bought them before delisting you’d never have a chance to play them essentially but if it’s a worry of not being able to even download them anymore then, nah, I can’t see that as a realistic scenario going forward

I think regardless of the reasons for mobile hardware decreasing, it’s still magnitudes bigger than console which hasn’t grown in decades, PS5 selling a couple extra million is worthless to even consider when the overall console market isn’t growing, not even Sony will care about selling a few extra million ps5’s than ps4 because that’s not increasing their business and any meaningful level

What matters really is the console market isn’t growing while there a complete untapped market from both Sony and Xbox for 100s of millions of potential customers in mobile out there and mobile phone tech in getting better very quickly, we’ve already seen this with stuff like Death Stranding and RE4

Mobile players might not want to pay $70 for titles like this on mobile but if they have access to a subscription that gives them access a library of games of that level and quality on their mobile, that’s a huge amount of potential subscribers

Sorry had to double post because it wont let me edit in slow mode, this shit sucks mods, get rid of it

I really doubt it is Indy since that isn’t a BIG Xbox game it hasn’t even launched on the system yet. It sounds like Tom is on about an established Xbox game but part of me thinks Tom is just stirring it all up

I like to go on facts some analysts were saying that the last gen was going to be the end of consoles and yet the PS4 enjoyed monster sales. If you sell more than 50 million consoles 3 years in you’re doing very well no matter which way you cut it.

The silence clearly shows some games are going to the PS5. Otherwise, XBox would have come out and denied it and said it wasn’t true at all . It’s not true that XBox doesn’t comment on rumours they were quick enough to come out and say it wasn’t true about 343 not developing the next Halo and it was given to another studio and that’s just one example

How many of those 3 billion users pay 60 Euros for games. I would imagine there’s a reason why the biggest developers in the world Target the PC and consoles more for their games than consoles and make different version for mobile if at all.

No doubt the reason why Take-Two looks to consoles for the sequel one of the selling game of all time and not mobile

I find mobile gaming a poor substitute to console and PC gaming myself.

They won’t need them to. As I iterated before, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is 180 Euros per year per user or 15 Euros per month for access to 600 games. Its roughly equivilent to PS5 owners only buying 2 games per year, which is what it is now. Though that will be supplimented by MTX and other additions on a vast scale.

The biggest games in the world are mobile ones. Candy Crush and Minecraft for example.

Is that why they acquired Zynga. Take Two also doesn’t need to find the way, Xbox already arranged it for them. They’ve had GTA 5 and RDR2 on cloud for years.

I find PS5 to be unsustainable, mainly because it isn’t growing the market, PSN numbers are collapsing and they make fewer games then ever.

I’m kinda surprised anyone thinks it’s anything other than Indiana Jones. Dude literally rushed an article out about Indiana Jones as soon as the flood gates opened. If it wasnt IJ then why didn’t he write the article about that instead of (or in addition to) IJ.

If only there was a magical world where technology advances over time and young people replace old people who are stuck in their ways…

Yes so the exciting stuff might go hand in hand with the all digital approach. Talk about new hardware to go along with it!

Seriously I was amped listening to Nick yesterday talking about the rumors of a two console approach for next gen. A stand alone box for under the TV and a dockable handheld. With both being similar in power.

I think we’re definitely getting some good news to go along with some other stuff.

People really need to stop playing conspiracy theory with every little thing, it’s not good for your mental health.

As predicted he has already tweeted again:

His post makes a lot of sense, and I fear he might be right with the FTC playing up again the lawyers may have a say in how much can be said, leaving us with less clarity than we’d like.

Xbox marketing is pathetic compared to PlayStation - MS treat Xbox like their corporate divisions where they sell via their implementation teams / brand awareness, and don’t seem to realise a retail division needs massively more marketing spend.

Exclusives help sell the consoles, (as does Game Pass but it’s not marketed well - and it’s not ideal for most of the market that only buys a few games a year anyway) and by reducing those exclusives it does feel like they’re opening up Pandora’s box of “well this game might be on PlayStation soon too”.

Apart from MLB (forced by the league themselves), we don’t get that luxury when we see a PlayStation showcase - even the third party games we have to go looking for platforms and too often we’re skipped…

I told you he can’t stay away from Twitter.

Maybe Microsoft waited a week because Super Bowl will determine their direction. If their favorite loses, they will go multiplatform with no holds barred.
