The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I think there will be an audience, just not a big one…and the AAA gaming market won’t work on a small console market.

As long as that audience exists, if expect Microsoft to maintain it as an entry point in their ecosystem.

All depends on their business strategy now though.

My opinion is that Sony shareholders will force PS to release their games on Xbox eventually, if Xbox do the same and get better revenue.

If,if there’s strong rumours in a few years of the next generation Xbox being the last they might as well not make it at all. Then there would be lines outside stores with people waiting to buy the new PS at propably about 800-900 euros a pop as they could charge what they want for it then.

Im in the camp of all xbox games release on pc and xbox only. ps games pc and ps only

Yeah, I also said that. MS is going to indirectly screw people who prefer to play on consoles massively.

Same for me.

It’s already not true though

Indeed. Sony already releases games on Microsoft and Nintendo platforms. Microsoft already releases games on Sony and Nintendo platforms.

If that’s happen they just wouldn’t sell that many, people would vote with their wallets and their ecosystem would crash. Games are not a necessity in life, people would just move on.

Xbox will keep making consoles for quite some time. If Nintendo could make it work with 30 million N64s, 20 million GameCubes and 10 million Wii U all while having less avenues for making money than now with subscriptions and PC in the case of MS, then there is no reason for MS not to support Xbox consoles for quite some time.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but if 2 out of every 10 Xbox games ended up on other platforms, would that really be the end of the world? Even if it was 5 out of 10, Xbox would still be releasing more exclusives per year than they have in the past. If you were buying an Xbox when they were releasing one real exclusive per year, why would you suddenly find it unacceptable if they were only releasing 2 or 3? And this doesn’t even take into account that those games going to other platforms would presumably be timed exclusives on Xbox anyway.

Seriously, if you just map it out, nothing would really have changed except we get more games in Gamepass.

Anyway, I hope we get a better understanding next week. I think the people demanding they give ironclad guarantees and spell everything out in black and white are going to be disappointed though.

Plenty of people like me (my first Xbox since the original i bought decades ago) who aren’t hardcore ‘fanboys’ and don’t have an extensive library of Xbox games would just switch consoles if the platform’s future was even in slight doubt, why not. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that, competition is good and it keeps these companies honest’ish.

No…but the context would matter. Why should Xbox gamers invest in Xbox if their funds are in part being channeled to make it a worse experience for those gamers

Assuming Starfield and the big ones are false as Nate intimates, im going with the more reasonable conclusion…as long as MS keeps up a weak multiplatform narrative, they can continue acquiring.

I do not think for sure. The big difference is not how much consoles MS can sell but how much money this division can give to MS. Nintendo has only video games for revenue, so they do good or bad but they keep continue, whereas MS could just end up the Xbox business for better activities in terms of ROI.

The Mobile strategy is probably going to play a part in this. The idea might have been to put their games everywhere but with Apple already circumventing EU digital markets act that would have put a dent in their plans.

Personally, I’m fine with all ABK games being multiplatform, who knows maybe this leads to WoW coming to consoles too.

That being said for me personally I want all Xbox Game Studios and Zenimax games to be exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Yet, from what is being discussed Sea of Thieves and HiFi Rush are coming to other systems too and if it ends up just being those games, plus ABK games, that isn’t bad at all.

This helps sell a great game in Hi Fi Rush, which disappointingly has been niche and Sea of Thieves which is an online game, that lives or dies by how many are playing the game.

I don’t understand how that would result in a worse experience. Xbox gamers would still be getting those games. The only people who would be worse off are console warriors or people who obsess about list wars.

On the contrary, fans of other platforms buying those games would result in more funds that could be used to make all Xbox games and experiences better. Their funds would be making your experience better in that hypothetical situation.

Well Xbox isn’t getting Final Fantasy day and date or Silent Hill 2 Remake. If those were paid for by Sony with their 30% Minecraft cut, i’d wanna know…because if that money were not in Sonys budget, they would probably be default multiplatform from the go.

Possibly. But they would have to prove it weighing it against the benefits of a platform having good exclusives vs. having less. They would have to be pretty major to losing Indy, Starfield etc.

That’s a sort of one sided logic, following that wouldn’t the playstation fanbase be funding Xbox first party content with the 70% cut Microsoft gets :man_shrugging:

I think Sony would find the money to make those deals regardless. Also, I think a 70% cut is more beneficial than a 30% cut. Even if it ended up being the same cut due to porting expenses and fees, etc, I think it would be more beneficial to MS as they could use that money to fund more games or make Gamepass deals etc.

I think the biggest problem with our arguments though is that we’re assuming a lot of things will/won’t happen when we have no idea if doing X will result in Y in the first place. I would love to be a fly on the wall at all of these companies.
