Honestly for me the surprise is Hi Fi Rush and SoT, after that ( in case it gets confirmed) seeing any other first party game get ported wouldn’t be too surprising.
I’ll say Flight Simulator tho, that was on the reddit “leak”, or Halo Infinite could be “surprising” if its announced before others like Starfield or Indiana Jones, but ye.
Starfield and Indiana Jones rumors (especially with IJ being ‘months’ behind Xbox) are what pushed me over the edge. HFR and SoT seem like inconsequential giveaways in comparison at this point.
They don’t have to repond directly. As I suggested, filtering out a response through third party journalists would have resulted in a more desirable outcome. The Xbox brand is still fragile and addressing rumors involving their biggest new IP going to different platforms is certainly worthy of some kind of reaction.
Xbox doing more to cultivate clear and consistent messaging was the core of my earlier comment. Unfortunately, Phil hasn’t done much to change that. Having good messaging and tone is something Xbox hasn’t done since the 360 days.
“A big game that no one expects” I assume that it is a game that’s already released, Flight Sim, Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite or Starfield are my guesses.
These games are much bigger, yes, but imo it’s much more weird and surprising to see MS opening the … pandora box? with Hi Fi Rush and SoT.
While , in case these two games get ported, seeing games like Indiana Jones or Starfield in the future seems common sense and the next logical step.
The narrative, word of mouth etc about Xbox is going to get hurt too much in case they port some first party games to just port the ones that will get small sales numbers
With Microsoft Gaming seemingly transitioning into a 100% 3rd party publisher, I would be hugely surprised if we get an Xbox console after the Xbox Series successor. The sales and 3rd party support of the upcoming Xbox are going to be something to behold.
I am going to try to approach this with a “enjoy while it lasts” mindset, but the direction Xbox is heading is clear, at least to me.
Which ones, Starfield or Indiana Jones? probably not, or maybe yes with FH5-6 included, but the thing is, once the damage has been done with SoT and HFR, the hit would be smaller once the rest are announced, it just makes sense.
For me it is clear, they give people less and less reasons to buy Xbox consoles, while looking for revenue elsewhere. Do you think they will keep making Xbox consoles forever only to please die-hard fans? I dont think so, money talks and sooner or later producing Xbox consoles wont be worth it for MS, sad but true.
