With all the rumours flying around of their new console plans and Jez reporting they have no intention of dropping out of hardware, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about on this front.
Tom Warren, Jez, Bdsams have confirmed new console hardware. We also have the leaks from last year lol. Be serious.
No, don’t tell me that… no…nooooo…
I suspect that what is announced officially will be somewhere less than the feared doomsday for now, not sure where that will land exactly though.
I don’t expect this to be announced in that update next week, but honestly if they are really going a certain way then they need to create some type of gaming device/handheld or whatever that truly breaks from the current “twins” of the Xbox and PlayStation consoles being so similar. If you want to give people a reason to come into your ecosystem in the future, then it had better be something much more “different” in that scenario. If you are going to go for broke on being so different in your game distribution mindset, then do the same on your gateway gaming device(s) too.
Feels like we are living inside a Lovecraft story. Its really crazy out there hahaha
It must be nice for PlayStation and Nintendo users to never go through this kind of roller coaster. Always and only Xbox. Here’s the one thing that’s Xbox exclusive
I mean this makes sense because they just hired a Japanese specialist who worked for Sony previously, and she said through her own mouth that there would be top Japanese exclusives. Otherwise it’s also very impolite to backlash that Japanese they hired with lots of money
Maybe this mess is the smoke grenade to cover the next series of content acquisition with some sort of exclusivity.
Assuming they acquire Bandai, and then both halo and tekken enjoy 6 months of timed exclusivity.
Sounds not bad, not bad at all if true.
If you ignore all of both company’s histories, sure!
If we lose another console to PlayStation… I hope you PS peeps know what you’re doing. Because if you thought arrogant Sony wouldn’t resurrect… I’ve got a bridge to sell you. (If you don’t know what “arrogant Sony” means: Google it. It’s well documented.) We fought arrogant Sony off once before. We may not be able to do it again.
Remember when they raised ps+ price? Oh? Too recent? Remember when they tried to sell you 600 console in 2006? Remember when they said you’d “get two jobs” to buy one console? They are going to slap your ass, whisper in your ear, and comb your hair all day from next week forward. Hope you’re ready. And don’t complain either like some of you all do with the late DreamCast. Don’t act like you all of a sudden miss the Xbox console when it’s gone. Keep that same energy y’all have now. Make jokes. Laugh all day. Hell, laugh at ME. You’ll see. Arrogant Sony is going to absolutely TORCH your asses. You are going to wish the competition didn’t bow out when they’re done with you. How’s that for funny? Ha ha? When Demon Sony starts ripping you apart, and you’re screaming, don’t come running.
Thanks.
I can’t blame folks for being extremely skeptical about new console hardware right now.
If nothing big changes for Game Pass then I can definitely see new hardware happening though. And I really do hope they do.
I’d recommend taking a little break from this discourse.
Feels like the problem at this point is that so many fake rumours and speculation is getting thrown into the mix that people have largely forgotten exactly what has been said and what is credible.
It’s pretty clear there’s some multiplatform titles coming, and to what scale is unclear - but with that said there also seems to be no evidence to support some of the wild worst case scenarios people are posting.
As far as I can tell Xbox is still gonna make consoles, they’re still gonna have game pass and they’re still the company I was excited to see acquire all of these companies. Not because they would make all their games exclusives, not because I’d be able to play their games cheap (well, that helped] - but because I was excited for the games they’d make.
As a side note: Weird how many times I’ve been accused of doom posting and being negative and yet I’m the bloody optimist of the lot
If Xbox dies it won’t be Sony fault at all. Microsoft Gaming will be the main culprit.
Not a fan of the Playstation controller too, I hope the Xbox controller never dies
This right here should have all gamers worried
Wonder if they revert back the Bethesda exclusivity and keep all of ABK multiplatform and only keep Xbox studios games exclusive in the long run, even though Sea of Thieves, if true, contradicts that.
It’s really hard to know what consumer behavior will be when this happens. People currently on Xbox and enjoying Gamepass will most likely ride out the generation, at least for the majority. I know I am. After that, it’s only a matter of what the next Xbox will be like, how much it will cost compared to the competition, and how it’s marketed. It’s possible they go on a downward path in terms of sales or at least maintain what they have. Maybe a global Xbox store comes out, MS figures a compatibility layer for all content since the beginning of Xbox to keep BC, and Xbox just becomes device agnostic. Wanna play on the go on a ROG Ally, or in 4K on your shiny RTX 4090? Xbox store just becomes another Steam or Epic Games Store, except that Microsoft also has some kind of support from the Xbox consoles helping it out as well as Gamepass being what drives value and people to join that store on devices that aren’t Xboxes. Since all 3rd parties develop for PC it’d mean that all games could make it technically on that platform, putting an end to exclusives and it’s less work for devs. Heck, considering Sony games are also available on several PC stores maybe even those games could make it to Xbox!
I’m trying to rationalize what’s going on here. I know I’m not leaving my 400-500 games behind and I’ll keep buying Xbox consoles or I will be playing exclusively on PC if MS can make BC work there and make all of my games follow me there as well. I need my Ridge Racer 6 fix on the go!
I do believe there is a greater play here as for sure MS didn’t spend that money and hire all those people and make this whole hierarchy at Xbox just to see it crumble. It’s now the 2nd most important pillar at the company so they’ll be going in hard and I feel like they’ll try to change how the game is played. We do not see what it is yet, but we just gotta wait and see.
It’s a risk they are willing to take, but honestly the console marketplace is shrinking every generation so I guess you either wait it out, or move early and potentially reap the rewards. PS5 is on track to match PS4 or so, at least it has for now, but at the expense of Xbox hardware. Which means at this point in the generation, there are less people on consoles than there were last gen. Next gen might actually be worse, and so if the trend is downward, fighting for crumbs is pointless when you are MS and are worth 3 Trillion and can afford to make big boy moves, and I think that’s what’s happening here. Sony can’t afford to do it so they’re just milking whatever they can. Even Nintendo is seeing some of this, as in the past they would sell almost double the consoles as now since they had both home consoles and handhelds and now only sell 1 system that does both, and it was their way of changing the game to stay relevant.
It’s all going to be about the messaging and how our stuff will follow us in the long term.
I feel like this has some really sinister undertones.
Better keep Phil away from the change drawer.
I’ve been worried all the time. The whole world decided we should have less platforms to choose from. Steam is the only viable PC platform. With Xbox on the downtrend, PS is the only choice for mid/high tier hardware. If you don’t like these options, you’re screwed as you have no one else to buy from.
Plenty of 3rd-party controllers for the PS in the Xbox style, Razer does one if you want to shell out a bit more.
