The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Others have invested a lot of money into the ecosystem and let’s face it, the hardware is pretty much done at this point. I don’t think that’s hilarious at all.

100%.

If Sony games were being ported to Xbox because they were not successful enough on Playstation, commercially and critically speaking, would we buy them? I wouldn’t. I would laugh them off. Microsoft games will go the way Sega games went: without any support from console fans, they are just another 3rd party developer, and they will miss their targets. You can’t kill the brand, kill the fanbase, and expect to do remotely well.

Not sure I agree that Horizon would do that well at $70 for a 3 year old port. Could be wrong though.

If Game Pass is all you own an Xbox for, sure. If you have any interest in third party games being released on the platform, and the ecosystem eventually winding down due to low sales and people losing their digital libraries, yes it’s absolutely valid to be concerned. Not sure why it’s hilarious.

I doubt they’d be selling it for $70, probably 50

Then again, with these decisions anything possible with these suits

Yeah I’m not expecting game sales to suddenly be much better especially if they don’t release on PS at launch and that is something else they have to consider as well, can’t just treat that userbase like an extra revenue magic button or they might lose interest.

GP attacted many (not enough for MS I guess) people who don’t necessarily care about Xbox, but spending less, which is ok, but it diluted the fanbase instead of fostering it, because of…muddled messagging as usual and weak efforts outside NA. Since years many supposedly Xbox fans welcomed multiplatform ambigue strategies and MS took for granted they could get away with it.

People have basically been begging for Polyphony to make a Horizon competitor over on the PS side for a while now, racing is a pretty huge genre in much of mainland Europe too, I think it would sell gangbusters.

I agree, zero marketing on the XBox, games or Gamepass here in the Netherlands and has been so for many years. I’m sure a lot of parents who buy a console for their kids nowadays don’t even know about the Series X or S, let alone Gamepass.

If they would have invested 1% of their ABK budget on proper marketing I wonder how it would be.

Not every Xbox game will do huge numbers because of their large console base but FH would be massive on PS

imagine FH does pretty well everywhere but EU is huge for racing

They won’t, proof is Sony’s PC ports, even bigger IPs like God of War, Last of Us couldn’t match a day one release of Fh5 that was also on gamepass. These late releases reach of fraction of the revenue, people would rather wait for a 20 dollar sale, as they have already waited years for the game.

“But the roi!”. At least seeing the roi people being wrong is the only consolation price from this disaster (alongside console war websites and influencers losing steam in the mid run).

It seems the majority who arent concerned own a PC…

As a result, its very easy for them to say that.

I honestly don’t think marketing would have worked for Xbox in Europe. Xbox lost that region for good with the PS4 era.

Still think they owed themselves an honest effort in trying to win it back though.

MS should develop a proper rival for FIFA/FC24 and make it exclusive. EA Sports has been slacking for over a decade and people would buy a better footy game for sure. Especially in Europe.

Look at The Crew 2. Even with all flaws it’s often in top 10 charts. 5 millions copies will be more than achievable for the best arcade racing game.

I’m also not that concerned because I have a ps5 as well and I’ve gone on record saying my Xbox is solely a gamepass machine for me.

It’s why I’m not trying to be dismissive of other peoples concerns because it’s easy to do that when you have other options.

I do and I empathize wand understand your concerns As someone who was oncw a 360 user its really really hard to see any positive from the console side (I would even say the bran really)

It’s the “honest” part which is missing, the truth is that from Phil tenure, they only tried to retake positions in NA and some checks directed to JPN to appease publishers there, but then jack shit all over the world. They have even the audacity to call it a global operation.
