If I could count the number of times my posts got flagged in here whenever I brought up this concern, it was always a very real concern, Xbox’s main base was always the consoles, this is why they made a 299$ console to begin with, they knew.
It’s one of very few scenarios that make sense that’s for sure.
Technically they could continue to release hardware it would just be closer to the Steam Machine and/or Steam Deck. They wouldn’t have to worry about back compat as it would be closer to PC in architecture meaning they could also release hardware more frequently.
I think what we’re going to see is unprecedented layoffs after this new strategy proves highly unstable and results in massive losses in their historical income streams.
Maybe not the studios themselves since they will now have a bigger audience to sell to but I expect their hardware team to get gutted soon enough.
Yep, and last year, which was fairly packed, getting outsold 3 to 1 or worse was starting to get worrying, specially since it had some serious discounts and we knew the first half of 2024 would be a desert, which means sales would only get worse this year.
Also 2023 was fairly packed, but yes, the amount of ads on TV or even on spanish internet sites i saw was 0, which is also the number of Xbox related ads too during that year.
And doesn’t help if a game like Forza Motorsport, which could have been almost an event, even if the genre isn’t what it used to be, gets 0 marketing and releases on such poor state.
Like, Forza Horizon’s the most succesful Xbox game probably since Halo 3, thanks to being a 9+ videogame, very polished AAA experience etc, it’s getting dozens of million players, and very nice sales too, word of mouth is awesome, but MS can’t manage to get more games to work like this one, there’s always some problem lately
Do not presume an Obsidian (random example) game would sell much better if Xbox is done and you compensate with PS (not all game will run on underpowered N hw), this move is trying to keep everything in place, with the delusionale hope people will keep buying Xbox at the current rate or ar worst a bit less.
All I can say is: Here in Germany this is exactly what happened. The console was sold for 349 Euros (399 with a game, e.g. Diablo) between Black Friday and christmas and the people still didn’t buy it. Instead people bought the PS5 Slim and different PS5 bundles, which were much higher in price.
I’m not being weird, but anyway.
I don’t know how to make a poll or if you have to be a mod/admin to do so but when do we think MS/Xbox will make a comment/announcement. about this.
Timdog made it sound like he expects one soon but i don’t know. I feel it may be tied to the annucement of HiFi rush/SoT for Switch 2.

That’s because people in EU are not aware of Xbox ecosystem since Halo 5 I guess, last heavily marketed game. Xbox NEVER even tried to market GP, some fans said it was because the roi, well now look at roi dismantling Xbox. You’ll never make huge money in entertainment if people are not moved to you, again, it’s not selling office kits.
Really has to be this week to be honest.
click on the settings/gear icon when making a post and there should be an option that says “build poll”
We’ll see, as according to Jez, they’ve greenlit a couple of hardware projects recently. I wouldn’t expect to see them to push the boat out as they did with the One X/Series consoles though.
Yep if Xbox thinks the Playsation fans are going to buy Xbox games in their droves they’re in for another shock
It may work for the likes of Starfield and Indy but I can’t see Playstation fans flocking to Forza, Halo and the like after giving up on Xbox since the 360 and wanting to pay 70 euros each for a game.
Those fans have moved or just got them for the PC while Xbox kills its brand and loyal consumer base.
Terrible day from a corp that couldn’t carless for its fans or the brand.
They can’t allow this to fester until Spring.
Disagree. Forza Horizon 5 and Halo would be a wild success on the PS5.
They clearly intended to obfuscate the thing and drip feed announcements. If they don’t reverse course, the thing will go crashing down very fast and the bad thing is regular people will pay the price, while the asinine suits who planned this will get away with it or at worst they’ll get a juicy severance.
This is Xbox PR we’re on about here…
It wouldn’t compensate the loss of the store in the mid-long run, like at all. But hey, MS knows better, no? They never stumbled in videogames, we are ineducate fans who are overreacting and know nothing according to people who hate Xbox (media, other platforms fans) and Xbox “corpo” faction.
FH5 would be huge on PS, infinite would probably do ok but that’s about it
