It’ll be Pompeii by the morning.

We’ll see, unfortunately most of the times these megacorps have enough hubris to think they can get away with it and MS is one of them.

Agreed. This isn’t set in stone yet.

I guess with the timed exclusive if another Redfall or something happens they just stay exclusive because you’d get nothing out of porting them later.

They’ve backtracked before and that was just for raising the price of gold if my memory is correct. I think the reaction to this has been much stronger, so who knows.

Of course, they did turn gold into Gamepass Core and raised the price anyway, so yeah…

Ive never understood this “if you’re not first, you’re last” mentality when it comes to consoles. Xbox had been posting record revenues for its gaming division. Who cares if they’re not first? I guess it wasn’t good enough for the bean counters, but this seems likely to crater their status as a platform holder. I was thinking of buying AC6 on sale… not anymore!

I’m not against other people being able to play great games, but… if Xbox games are eventually ported to Playstation, what reason do I have to get an Xbox again? Won’t they lose users? Won’t they lose the money they get from people inside their ecosystem? For sure I will leave Xbox, and not because of me being angry at MS, simply because the value won’t be there anymore. Gamepass? Nah, that’s not it.

This is a very very weird decision if true.

MS want to sell games and recoup on the ABK deal, but forgot they have Xbox and how the console market works.

I want to be wrong, I probably am, but their strategy seems to be slowly getting rid of Xbox. Problem solved. Genius move. Their most dedicated fans are pissed off to no end, but money is flowing at least.

Anyway, they will probably course correct this in a few months or years, but still, they should have kept these bright ideas for a later time.

More people would have probably bought an Xbox this year with all the exclusive releases. But no, they could not have waited a year or two for things to settle and see how it went…

I’m at the point of jumping ship (at end gen) regardless, how can you trust what they say when they change tune so much? PS and N like to nickel and dime you (that’s why I’ll come back to pc and screw them all, mostly), but at least they are consistent with their core strategy and basics.

Agreed. Also, I’ll add to the Office counter. Mac isn’t exactly the most cost effective for a business that maybe needs to outfit their accounting department. The cheapest Mac is a Mac Mini at $700. You can buy a decent laptop or two mini PCs for that price.

I work at a travel agency that relies on Office products for our day to day. There is no way our company is going to buy everyone Mac Minis or Macbooks, when there are cheaper alternatives available.

If I can play Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Forza, Gears and Halo on PlayStation ? There’s no point staying on Xbox. You can have one console with all the games. I don’t think we will get to that point, but I feel like MS is considering it.

Then, good luck to them dealing with Sony’s policies and everything else.

It feels so short sighted. It will just backfire.

I’m not going to argue that hardware isn’t a driver for business, but that is mostly because people are conditioned to think that way. Buy a box because the games you want to play are tied to that box and no where else. The hardware is where the games are tied to, so you can’t play the games you bought elsewhere. If you remove the tie to the hardware and make tie to an account, then hardware resets no longer matter. This is because you bought the game on your “Xbox Account” not for a specific piece of hardware.

We are probably headed this way because I am guessing paying to play online is probably going to face some tough hurdles in the future with simultaneous PC game releases. If Xbox hardware becomes a PC then pay to play online is gone.

Right. Because come next-gen (or even starting now) if you only have $500 to spend on a console, what would you do? Buy the console with only Xbox games? Or buy the console with Playstation AND Xbox games?

The idea that Microsoft doesn’t give a shit about people’s digital investment of their ecosystem is troubling. They really think an X amount of users will continue buying Xbox’s without cause or effect? Blindly?

People jumped ship from 360 to PS4 just on the whole TV TV debacle. This will be even worse. People have every right to be concerned over this.

The funny irony with this whole thing is the FTC( And CMA, EU etc) after going after Microsoft for being “anti-competitive”, they potentially and inadvertently created a monopoly in their “ high performance console market” definition because they made Microsoft rethink about their plans ( due to regulatory pressure). :joy:

Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves is okay I guess. I get the logic behind it. It won’t do much damage.

But Starfield, DOOM or anything else of that caliber is a big “No no”.

The problem with the ‘Xbox account’ idea is that most third parties are not going to play ball. This isn’t an issue with first party, in fact ‘Play Anywhere’ is that in action. The issue is third party purchases made through your account.

Having said that, if Microsoft came out tomorrow and stated that all digital purchases would be made available on PC via the Microsoft Store/Xbox app, then great. However, I doubt most third parties would sign off on that.

The real question now is do I buy a PS5 or wait for the Pro? This news, if true, makes me reconsider my entire investment into the Xbox ecosystem.

Hey, on the bright side, the media is finally on their side, I guess all it took is to release Xbox games to their beloved PlayStation or Switch.

I still think Xbox won’t be doing this. We might see some games coming to other platforms, but a total move to multiplatform will damage the brand beyond saving.

They should reinvent the brand though. Stop being lazy and put money in localization efforts, ads, partnerships outside of the US. It’s frustrating when I live in Hong Kong and the lack of brand awareness is crazy. Everywhere I go I see Playstation and Nintendo, but no Xbox. And my home country is exactly the same - no ads, no brand awareness, UI being machine translated.

Is this really from the same company that made Windows? 20 years of opportunities and this is what happens?
