The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

The digital foundry guys are definitely having a circle jerk right now to be honest, along with IGN and Eurogamer and Kotaku…

Yeah, you guys got to chill.

Are you actually going to contribute something to the discussion beyond chastising people.

Tiresome man.

At least all of them will lose a lot of clicks/views which come from console war, it’s probably the one good thing from this stupid shift, bad websites/influencers getting their revenue tanked.

If all major Xbox games are coming to PS eventually, then I’m am going to jump ship next gen personally. That’s ultimately okay with me, but I will be a little disappointed for the reasons stated below.

It’s fine with me if Xbox wants to go multiplatform, but I’m going to go to whatever non-PC platform can play the most games (or possibly a console-like machine such as a hypothetical Steam Deck 2 - but I think I would prefer the actual console experience that PS offers). I say this as someone who personally never cared about Game Pass. I also don’t mind waiting for timed exclusives because I’m a “patient gamer.”

Currently, my Xbox fandom is center on two things: (1) the games Xbox publishes (love my Halo and Gears including the strategy spin offs - heck I was happy with the Xbox One exclusives so I’m easy to please) and (2) the fantastic and consumer-friendly backwards compatibility program (fuck NSO). It would suck to abandon my digital library and my preferred controller, but hey I will adjust to a new ecosystem because I’m not going to buy $500 hardware for (1) timed exclusives that I wouldn’t buy day one anyway or (2) a subscription service that I won’t take advantage of.

To be clear, I’m not upset or anything. I’m just trying to coldly examine my personal consumer habits, and my conclusion is that an Xbox is not worthwhile to me without an exclusive library. I’m just saying this so nobody replies to me with “calm down bro”, “stop dooming dude”, or whatever.

All of this is just rumor and hypotheticals though, so I’m not looking for a new boat to sink money into just yet. If at the end of all this nonsense is just that Bethesda and ABK go third party, then the core XGS being exclusive is enough for me. Again, I was happy with the Xbox One… But I am leaning on the rumors being more true than false.

Thinking Microsoft can deliver on a 20 year vision, when they’ve flailed on something they began 5 years ago is naive at best.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t make sense to limit the thing only to Bethesda and ABK, it’s clearly some stupid pivot to catch some imaginary number, then they’ll forever regret for losing their last consumer product. An exclusive-less box won’t fly for 3/4 of the current Xbox base, imagine for the other players.

Sensible people are.

I get people are angry but sit down and wait for official statement on their plans.

Also xbox has 100s of 1st party games not on playstation…yeah theyre just going to click their fingers and make all of those appear on other platforms?

Logistically snd development wise youre probably going to get about 10 and another 5 more over 5 years at best. With 5 of those being new games if that.

Calm the fuck down and lets see whats going on.

If youre dissapointed…cool even i am to an extent. And if you decidde to go all out on pc…sure

Anyone who now just wants to go to sony because of this can piss right off. Ive got no time for you people. If you didnt care about ps5 before why would you now?

Jez Corden on Xbox Two often brings up that MS regrets leaving behind Windows Phone. Yeah I agree that they would regret this move for similar reasons.

People may counter with “MS put Office on Mac and didn’t regret that!”, but Windows is so dominant in the PC space. It’s a completely different scenario to Xbox (actually it might be the exact opposite).

I’m wasn’t a Windows Phone guy, so if anyone has more experience with that platform and wants to correct me, please do so. I bought a Windows Phone once and sold it immediately when I couldn’t download Google Maps.

I own both (PS5 and Series X), but i care about the future of Xbox hardware and think that the industry would be lesser if they exited the hardware market.

I know some will say they will continue to make hardware, but if there is significant decline as a result of their own strategy… thats no guarantee.

Its self evident.

Again…who is making these ports and games and in what record time?

If its a stupid idea…theyll stop

Jesus can noone think for one second and just see that this may be a preliminary thing where they see how things go? If there isnt significant benifits theyll just stop.

And ill keep fucking repeating myself…xbox has always been an exclusive less box.

This comes down to the shitty ps vs xbox console war. And i get it. I hate sony too moneyhatting games away from xbox for decades. So ms doing this sort of sucks…but we dont know thr full story.

5 years ago i thought id never get persona games on xbox. Now i have. I have no reason to shit all over ms and abandon xbox without actually seeing what their long term goal is

But its nice to see the fraud journalists come out of their shells

I mean, they don’t like a 5% growth so they are going multiplatform growth and people will make me believe they’ll let go on a product with a steady decline. Talking about delusion and/or preemptive defense…

@ShinMegamiTenseiX I’ll use XSX until end gen, then all bets are off, I can say from now I don’t trust anymore Xbox, their 2018 vision which sold me Series is mostly words as of now and they are already pivoting away from it. I will come back to pc, I did it when it was far more difficult than now, so no big deal.

I care too and im pretty sure mS do otherwise they wouldnt greenlight a new console

But were all living in this 90s world of traditional console generations and competition and not understanding the true landscape of the future.

Its ok to be dissapointed. And if people want to keave the xbox ecossytem for PC…go ahead. I personally wont but i understand.

Im not talking about ps5 and xbox owners. Im talking about people who primarily play their games on xbox because they prefer that ecosystem. Theres a reason why you do that. Not sure how thst would change

I think i would rather shoot my own balls with a shotgun than by gears of war on a playstation console.

Thats your decision now. Who knows what will happen in 2026

I bet when they show off that shiny new xbox with ES6 launch title or perfect dark launch title people will buy it. I know i will.

I won’t because an exclusive-less box is worthless to me, because I know full well that kind of thing would mean end of brand. I’ll get their things on pc giving them less money than now.

I mean abandoning windows phone isnt comparable.

Once they did that they cant go back

This they can. Just test it out with a few games and then say…didnt work. Not interested. Sorry no Es6 for playstation.

Its an exclusive less box now…

Like i said. None of us know what will happen in 2026 and beyond.

10 years ago xbox had jack shit. Was fine then with less games. Now it has more

Console-exclusive then, let’s not pretend porting games to pc is the same to other consoles, come on, it’s disingenuous. For me it’s the last line, Xbox is meaningless if lost its unicity (and that’s not ui or pad, but games), then I guess pc is ok, there is no brand attached and no platform.holder which can lie to you, it’s an open port.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people being upset and I would encourage those people to direct their ire at Microsoft and Xbox leadership (politely of course). If you guys raise enough hell, they might change their minds. Judging by the online reaction to all of this, “Rome is burning” would be an appropriate metaphor.
