This just means that someone else is making the decisions now and not the people who planned this originally.
I wonder if part of this play is to have Xbox accounts for all these games regardless of platform? Then it’s a matter of reward programs, Game Pass promotions, etc to make people more aware of the options available.
Money people call the shots now because Xbox people sold them stupid growth numbers which never materialised because of very bad execution (the usual marketing/localisation thing and bad lineup for several years, non existant if you consider console launch).
I mean, even on Steam, Xbox are hit&miss, what do uou think they would be on PS and N?
There was also massive growth during Covid right? This was why they greenlit the ABK acquisition.
Again, one employee liking a tweet is not “xbox insulting their fans”.
Coming from a studio which 90% made some shady deal with Sony, the fact BG3 materialised on Xbox just 3 months after PS and still broken never left my mind.
That guy sure likes to tweet a lot, has one surprise hit game and now he thinks he knows it all.
Suddenly people are experts about the financial ramifications of going fully third party.
Interesting that seems to be only discussed in regards to xbox… not like the two more successful pillars of gaming have exclusivity enshrined in their business practices.
You’re so unbelievably passive aggressive that it’s borderline just aggression.
I think some people really over estimate the appeal of Game Pass. Most console gamers are happy to play their F2P shooters and sports game and maybe a handful of paid games each gen. They don’t want to pay a dozen different things a month.
My brother has access to my sub and he never touches it. Fortnite, Warzone, FIFA and GTA are enough for him. I imagine this is pretty typical behaviour.
How is he any different from everyone here? Most of you aren’t experts in anything related to this topic but it hasn’t stopped you from speaking your mind repeatedly.
I think some of you need to take a step back and just go do something else. It’s starting to feel like venting just for the sake of venting.
Exactly. Some corporate big wigs up at Microsoft were greedy enough to want an instant return on the acquisitions and they figured this was the way to do it. I mean it’s business. I sort of get it but…
Except that the gaming division doesn’t work like Windows and Office so the tactics used to grow those won’t necessarily (and probably won’t) work with gaming.
They’re going to soon find out that these moves will more than likely have a negative effect as opposed to what they were conjuring up on their sketch pads.
I’m against any more publisher acquisitions as is, but if Microsoft Gaming kills Xbox so they can just endlessly swallow publishers then I view them as an Embracer level menace.
These are the same people that says PlayStation exclusives are great and that they should keep at it. We will see if their tone will change when Sony gets unleashed( in a bad way) especially now that its primary competitor shot itself in the foot. It’s not a good environment for gaming rn to be honest.
Yeah, dropping exclusivity will kill Xbox before next-gen I’d say, their metrics are just stupid if they thought to get away with it.
I subbed to Game Pass for full price for about 18 months. I unsubbed in early 2022 when it was clear how bad it would be for Xbox releases. I have no intention of going back. That and the fact I just wasnt using it. Theres too much other stuff going on and I dont have time to play dozens of games.
I can see how the value of game pass can wear off over time.
… is there any actual merit behind this comment? Because Phil specifically said he was having a meeting with Larian (I forget what interview he said this in) about BG3 last year which supposedly was when they got the split-screen exception for Series S.
I don’t see how you connect to Embracer at all. One would be buying to fund a subscription service and keep everything multiplatform (a net positive) and one was buying without a strategy and shit everything down.
