I’ve said it a couple times, but Microsoft has zero idea on how to run a consumer product. They’re going to drive Xbox off a cliff like they have every other consumer product they’ve ever tried. Microsoft Gaming might do well (I personally think this is suicide for the whole gaming division), but this will almost definitely be a disaster for Xbox when that userbase keeps shrinking and shrinking.
They already accounted for it in their hardware projections for Q1
That vision NEVER materialised, this is the thing and also the major Xbox lie at this point. They abandoned ship even before reaching cruising speed.
Don’t know if Sony could actually afford it.
I don’t think this will alleviate regulatory concerns at all. Regulators would probably start looking at Microsoft trying to “monopolize” the supplier side of gaming( Vertical Mergers basically). Regulators are hungry right now on taking down big tech.
I would’t doubt it. There’s like 15 Bethesda games on PS Plus Extra already.
I agree, also I’m going to laugh when their math will go full trainwreck because in their projections they thought to control the message and damage control with half truths and lies to guarantee a transition phase.
Same, I’m just gonna move to PC. It’s not the 3rd party stuff that bothered me, it’s their communication or lack thereof. It’s their company in the end of the day, even if I have problems of how they run it.
And that’s the sad part. It was like building a rocket for years, and then when they’re ready to launch some random corpo goes and axes the project for no apparent reason.
At this point, I hope so. After all this circus, I don’t trust MS at all anymore. They proved to be no better than all other megacompanies.
If the games get even larger audiences and Xbox manages to let people know about Game Pass then it probably stands to do better.
All these years later, a lot of people I know have no idea what Game Pass is. When I tell them they like the idea, but aren’t familiar with Xbox 1P games. That’s a Xbox marketing issue, but still seems like something that ultimately doesn’t need to be tied to the console or PC as the only viable options in the future.
Some genius there thought people liked to play 4k games on phones or samsung tvs with 10s latency than actually try to sell your box which people might like if they know it (gp and ecosystem). I guess they sold to ms stupid expected growth potential and now money people get to decide because its margins are not Azure level. Nightmare stuff for a videogame company. That’s why it’s fully on xbox people, ms people barely know videogames, they only look at numbers and 2018 strategy was a bust because of BAD execution, the idea could work if they cared about the right things.
This actually makes me concerned for the studios they own and their devs, because if higher ups had wild expectations that aren’t being met then we could be in a situation where they start shutting down studios again, for example remember 2016 or 2017 when they shut down some studios including Lionhead? Man I fear for Ninja Theory because they’ve taken so long to release a 50$ game that likely wasn’t cheap to develop.
If releasing all of these games on other consoles prevents this then do it.
When the numbers people in corporations have more influence… those long dev times for small titles will definitely be examined.
They released their quarterly numbers and exceeded all expectations except hardware sales. And its not like they released any ABK stuff to gamepass to have hugher expectations. They literally havent done anything with ABK yet.
I mean, they just laid off 2k people, obviously no studio future has ever been set in stone, they have only a better chance to make it rather than indipendece.
@Sydle Marketing has always been THE issue, PS and N literally live from well executed messagging and marketing, another thing Peter Moore knew better than Phil&co.
That is a good point. 343 and MS really fumbled Halo so hard, it’s a shame. One of my favorite IP during the 360 era. That being said, I still stand by GP day one was a bad idea.
Actions speak louder than words. Xbox heads can make as many claims as they want that Game Pass boosts sales, and while I don’t doubt that at one point it was true, they wouldn’t be porting their first-party games to other platforms if it was still the case.
That’s the thing that gets me. They’re doing this without letting all their studios get into the rhythm of releasing consistent high quality games over the long term.
They’re doing this without a single ABK game having dropped into Game Pass post acquisition.
They’re doing this without bothering to market their own games and services and console in any meaningful way.
They bought all these studios and they didn’t even gave themselves a chance to get into a proper cadence.
Just fucking weird. SMH
Well, this is bad news.
As I see it, Xbox as a platform maybe on the way out. Because going multiplatform is more likely to crater the sales of their current offerings, making their future hardware plans go down in flames.
Game pass is never going to be allowed on Switch or PlayStation because that will never give up that %30 percent cut for anything.
Since Game Pass is mostly Xbox console users, the sub numbers are likely to have a big drop once the people start leaving the ecosystem.
As I said before though I will stick with Xbox until Microsoft kills it, but as it stands I can’t in good conscious buy any more games, dlc or add ons for Xbox. Without knowing if I will even be able to access them in the future.
