The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Never trust people that eat beans

Realistically how much did raising the price of the Series S in Brazil actually helped in this regard? I bet they’ll never tell and I would bet that this was more harmful to the brand than any positive impact it might’ve had, they need as much goodwill as they can get if they’re serious about staying in the console market.

I think the more likely scenario is they are experiments. Relatively low impact games that they can test the waters with.

Yeah that’s why im heading that way, I’m gonna go to the Steam ecosystem, money was my only barrier but I can save up for it. MS will still get my money if they make good games.

For mainland Europe they haven’t had a marketing budget since the launch of Xbox Series, nor did they have a budget for localization or the support of their products.

It’s been downright embarrassing for a company like Microsoft, the machine translated UI and web pages often make no sense at all.

It seems like the next Xbox will be a “side” box that is curated towards people interested in GP only. With the value of exclusive content gone, people will wait for them to come to PS/Switch (EGS → Steam already mentioned) that is going to dip their console sales even more which is going to present a problem to 3rd parties not on GP.

I saw this yesterday, Korean text on the Japanese site, when Japan is supposedly the one non-anglosphere area they’ve attempted to “upgrade” out of “tier 2”

I lost all hope in them a long time ago, this is is just another reason as to why

Sony wasn’t actually concerned about them owning ABK and the emails by Jim Ryan proved this but you gotta consider that Sony does see Xbox as a rival and if they could have stopped Microsoft from owning ABK then they were going to do it, Ryan was never concerned about losing COD, the only franchise ABK owns that they really care about but I’m sure they didn’t want to lose the marketing rights and exclusive perks they were getting, in the end the only thing they will lose as far as we know right now is the marketing rights because Xbox won’t be doing exclusive perks and COD’s audience is far too deep in PS’s ecosystem for Game Pass releases to move the needle, Sony didn’t lose much with this acquisition and I doubt Microsoft will leverage owning ABK to gain an advantage when next gen comes around, they just haven’t shown that type of commitment in the console market for a very long time, ABK games on Game Pass is the most Xbox will get out of this.

Do you have any source for the next box being a “side” box? at all? if not, why the hell are you acting like it’s such a certainty??? There’s literally been no rumor about that, only that new main consoles are coming, and sooner rather than later.

That is Nate and Jez’s opinion, not something concrete. If they were going full 3rd party, why did they not mention that to the regulators anytime in the last 18-24 months?

I own a decent gaming PC, but to me Gamepass makes just too much sense vs buying everything on Steam. Even though I have plenty of disposable income, the financials of Gamepass just make way too much sense!

There’s no way that is happening though and no actual reliable rumor points to that. From what we know they’re either looking at AMD again or potentially going for an ARM based solution mixed with an AMD GPU which would open up the door for them to better port their games to mobile platforms as has been seen recently with RE4 and Death Stranding on iPhone.

It also doesn’t make any sense whatsoever as the financials would never support an Xbox only box since 3rd parties don’t develop games on Xbox with the purpose of releasing them to Gamepass in the first place, so unless MS was able to finance 100% of 3rd party ports in order for that vision to work, I actually don’t see how it could happen.

Heck, if the rumors of Moore’s Law is Dead are actually true ( and they most likely are not as guy’s a fraud) then MS might actually be shopping around and considering Nvidia? That would actually be a best case scenario as having DLSS on Xbox would mena the death of DF comparisons as everything would just by default look and run better on Xbox.

You ignored the actual example I brought up to force compare Xbox to EGS that follows no logic and makes no sense.

It’s the same comments being repeated over and over anyway so I don’t think it matters

We do not have a large moderation team and I’m producing the podcast. Nothing new has happened, no new points are being made. 10 minutes is shorter than I even wanted to.

I bought a PC in preparation for Starfield and have had zero issues with the Xbox Store beyond slow download speeds. I play all of my graphically intense games there now. I think Xbox Store is pretty usable nowadays. Though, as a new PC user, Steam seems like a piece of crap too as far as I’m concerned haha. Probably just takes getting used to.

I may or may not buy a Steam copy of Starfield in the future depending on mods, but it’ll at least be on sale by then.

One is not like the other. Many console players don’t want to play on PC, likewise most PC players are not switching to console, no amount of console exclusive games would change that.

Microsoft knows this and Sony probably does too at this point.

However: How do you attract new customers to your platform when you don’t offer anything special - as in anything that can’t be played anywhere else, likely in better quality?

Game Pass does not seem to work. Offering the cheapest hardware as entry point also does not work as proven by Series S.

Series X, a console that still has exclusive games, sold much worse than PS5 did during last quarter, despite being 150-200 € cheaper at the same time here in Germany/mainland Europe.

Germany/mainland Europe may be extreme examples but Xbox market share is declining worldwide so a further decline should be a probability, especially when you don’t offer any exclusive content.
