The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Looks like MS may bet on Game Pass and Day One releases on their own console to sell them vs. full price releases a year or so later on other systems.

Nate Drake on Other Era:

That’s the core message, yeah. Buy an Xbox (or play on PC), get GamePass, play games on Day 1 or wait 18-24 months, buy the game on PS/Nintendo for $70. The former will serve some people & the latter will cater to others. Those in the latter were unlikely to invest in an Xbox, in my opinion. I’d still invest in new Xbox hardware so I can be there Day 1, play their games at launch vs waiting a yr or more to play the game on another platform… but that’s just me.

Looks like all games would be multiplatform down the line, as all studios would want to make more money as per Jez too.

If Game Pass is the only attraction then it will be a box that you fire up to play what’s on GP but otherwise stick with investing on your PS5/Switch/PC. I don’t see why people would use the console for anything else if that’s it’s only selling point because that’s all they bought it for.

I would also expect Sony and probably even Nintendo to be aware of which games they will be receiving after the timed period and do things in their power to push the Xbox version out of the mind share (and Xbox will as usual try to fly by on word of mouth marketing) so that people just forget about it till it comes to PS/Switch.

Yes, it’s similar to Epic’s strategy, where people just waited for the game to come to Steam.

If this is true I think MS wants to kill Xbox consoles for good. I cant believe they are so stupid to think this move wouldnt make console sales even worse, you cant really have your cake and eat it.

A smart buyer would just move to PC, you get MS games, gamepass, plus PlayStation games( it’s gonna be day one on PC eventually). Casuals will also stay PS cause they will get all the games there( even if it’s a year or so after).

I think they know it’d make console sales even worse, that doesn’t mean what they gain in the process doesn’t make up for that.

They want to kill Xbox consoles for good by having plans for next Xbox consoles greenlit already. How do video games make some people this insane I can’t understand.

Where we can find that Zenimax employee saying all those points? That stuff would all be under NDA so no one would freely speak on some random podcast. If it’s just some hearsay then what’s the track record? People are linking to some podcast called The Fix, it’s like the first time I hear of those people and have no idea who they are, which tells me they’re credibility is probably very low.

As someone who has been supporting Xbox and it’s community for soo long i feel betraid by Phil. Why not be transparent and let us the fans know from day 1 that you are giving away some of the best games to your competition? The same Sony that tried to block ABK deal?

I.feel lost.

Cod hitting on gamepass day one this year is one of the biggest things to ever happen in the gaming industry. If you think a casual gamer cares more about sea of theives and hifi going multiplat, you’re insane

Insane stretch that ignores logic. Why do people buy non first party games on Xbox now? People are buying Persona 3 on Xbox right now despite it being on game pass.

This is your worry and fear, not any fact whatsoever. No, neither does MS have the full facts either they are experimenting, but they are definitely not planning to kill the Xbox console when they’re already R&Ding the next one/s internally. This is insanity, I don’t know how you can’t just be disappointed in some decisions without being so extra doomy and paranoid about it to the point of contradicting reality.

You know, I am disappointed in the decision, I question what would it benefit, but I don’t know for sure what it would do in the real world, and I’m not going insane about it.

over 20 years for me. your not alone. I hate the lack of clairity with the brand. The day this gets announced its over. Sure they will still release hardware but I bet it wont be super powerful as its not gonna be as important. xbox will be around it just wont matter to gamers nearly as much anymore.

I’d really like to know what’s happened to Xbox these past few months. I think they saw the revenue generated by ABK games on PS4/PS5 and said “F**k it, let’s go third party!”

Wow, Jez taking journalism to the next level… “It’s happening because someone said that someone said their N+5 will say something sometime between April and June 2024.”

No matter what happens, video game journalism will never recover from the poor work of these shameless amateurs.

Xbox fans have to wait until spring to know what is the future of the brand? If its late May people will have to face 4 months of this? :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

If they were going to go 3rd party you’d think Sony wouldn’t have stopped them from buying ABK in the end, so I highly doubt that’s what’s happening.

I do think it’ll be select titles and older ones at that, and I doubt it’s anything about some studios feeling betrayed and wanting to release where they want as Xbox is paying and dictates what goes where.

However, I still do expect some people to see only a game or 2 release elsewhere and then come to conclusions and maybe switch even though they’ll be missing out on a lot of content in the end unless they play on PC as well, but then they could have already made that switch so in some ways it’s not that much more different.

I do question the move as even if it’s only a few games, let’s be honest, it’s not like Hifi Rush or SoT will sell that much on PS5 and Switch, so is it really worth the investment for a few million dollars?
