That happened?
No. The hack happened, but Valve didn’t “just start over and make an entirely new game.”
Development began in the summer of 1999. The hack took place in fall 2003. The game was finished in the fall of 2004.
No way did they start from scratch and make a new game in a year.
Yeah. They may not have started over completely though as my memory of events are pretty hazy, but I remember them talking about the possibility.
Yeah, I thought it sounded off after I posted it. I don’t think Valve could have afforded to do that back then. Now, they definitely could and probably would.
I believe starting over is not an option, especially this time of age.
Not with those budgets and Disney breathing down their neck
The leak sucks for Insomniac but the game will still be huge. No one is going to skip it because assets leaked years ago.
Yeah, this is so goddamned much worse than the Rockstar leaks last year. I cannot imagine this won’t set development back for Wolverine quite a bit.
Huge part of it I’m sure. I buy all my PS games physical, because they are cheap af most of the time if you just wait a little bit.
I’ve never bought a PS game at anything near full price, and I don’t buy used games either.
I usually pay around $10-20 per game. My best one is The Last of Us Part 2 for only $2, new at around six months after release.
This one made a lot of people mad. I’m sifting through the fallout on Twatter. This leak has been the gift that keeps on giving! Just killing narrative after narrative.
This is the slide that shows Spiderman 2 selling 10M+ copies “just” generates them a profit of $75M (projection)
This is obviously old because according to Kotaku, a document from last November said that spiderman 2 actual budget is $350M+ and that they have to sell 7M copies to break even.
Another leak showed Spiderman 2 so far has sol 6M copies so that means the game hasnt make money yet.
Sony fans apply this to EVERYTHING
SM2 needs to sell more than your usual game to break even since Marvel gets 9-18% of the revenue. Tho on the flipside, it doesn’t have to pay the 30% cut to the platform holder…
I think that part has many rattled because it’s making them question Sony. This is the first time in a long time I’ve seen people question if it’s wise for Sony to continue AAA single player blockbusters. I think what this leaks and other leaks have shown is that Sony’s current philosphy isn’t sustainable . Meanwhile, Microsoft that is getting outsold 2:1 in consoles, and is still make a great amount of revenue without ABK in the fold . So, it’s starting to open people’s eyes that Maybe Microsoft isn’t doing so bad as they thought and Sony isn’t doing much better than they thought
Imagine companies like EA or Square Enix paying like 50% royalties combined to platform and license.
I hate that this leak has made me go back to Twitter, if only to browse comments and reactions. But after reading this post I too went to check the discourse around this, and one thing absolutely stuck out to me:
The number of people who are criticising the Wolverine graphics based on the leaked footage is surprisingly high. I’m sure some of that is from disingenuous Xbox fanboys, but surely not all.
Are people really this ill-informed? Do they really not understand that what we’re seeing in these leaked videos and screenshots is in no way, shape, or form indicative of what the finished product will look like, three+ years from now?
I mean, holy bananas Batman, I knew there were some morons out there, but come on…
They are very ill informed! This has always been the case sadly , mostly because gaming media and influencers who know better chose not to educate people on certain things sadly. The other half are the usual trolls.
OOF. Hilarious but OOF!
I’ll truly never understand why people like discussing games at that place, much less industry people.
Theres plenty of footage that is clearly debug, animation test. There is also a bit that looks vertical slice roughly comparable to a near final game…or should I say…gameplay demo two years before release.
At no point is it comparable to Hellblade 2. Neither today or what they showed two years ago.
Graphically speaking. It might give Uncharted 4 a run for its money though.
Their ethical stands aside, they tolerate users spreading misinformation and repeating ad nauseum bad faith arguments.
