Are you implying the people that didn’t like FF16 here only didn’t like it because of console wars??? lol

Its clear that SE was playing hardball, MS wasn’t going to budge and the new CEO knew how it was going to end: You’re trying to force a company who is buying ABK and made the current JRPG sweetheart developer (Atlus) to put most stuff on Gamepass and reveal new ones at Xbox showcase, it was never going to work that way.
Isn’t he the one pushing them? I know it was mentioned before he was named CEO, but I thought he was the one championing it. Or am I mistaken?
Outstanding to see Phil continue to do work building bridges with Japanese 3rd parties. But there’s one big thing he could do with Square Enix that would show he truly means business…
At the next showcase:
“Here at Xbox, we are committed to helping our partners from around the world deliver the best experiences to Xbox Game Pass. And now, thanks to our wonderful team of high powered lawyers, we were able to untangle the rights issues surrounding this classic series from our friends at Square Enix, and bring you its revival: Day One to Game Pass.”
WORLD PREMIERE
*The definition for Mitochondria is shown on the screen followed by a trailer for PaREsite Eve 1&2, a full remake of those games. And then a simple slide that says “Information to come for ‘Parasite Eve 3: Don’t Worry, It’s Not The 3rd Birthday’ later in 2024.”
Shunned fans angered by exclusivity deals should be expected now and is a major reason why they aren’t as viable as they have been in the past. Before the internet/social media it was basically something you lived with, there was no analysis or discussion as to why. Today there is backlash, there is negative publicity, review bombing, unhinged “fans”, console warriors, etc…
Xbox being in third place has a difficult time justifying exclusive deals not just because it costs them more than the other platforms but because of the above. You place PC, Nintendo, Sony fans against the game right out of the gate. SE has been living in the past, you can’t just release a mid game with a bullseye painted on its back in this day an age. Sony defense team can’t even cover for that. The same thing happened to Redfall, and you can bet Starfield is going to get some heat too.
You really had me going.
Oh crap you are right! Screw those games then >:c
i doubt that.
SE is the one with a money printing machine in form of a game with millions of monthly subscriptions. Their constant underperformance raises questions, especially for a CEO.
Was having a think about it - Could Square and Sony’s tendancy to keep their titles off Xbox been a point of discussion in the ABK discussions for Sony and COD?
It wouldn’t surprise me that the whole ABK deal could be a turning point for business speaking because honestly, the moment ABK becomes Xbox, people will see them as a big deal and not a pet project anymore. Be part of the family as friend or watch them from the inside thinking, “We could have gotten more money out of this.”
Don’t know what he’s implying but I agree with that statement 100%. There absolutely are people who dislike games exclusive to the platform they don’t own just because they can’t play them. I don’t dislike Sony exclusives but I am indifferent to them, but there definitely are Sony fans that will hate on starfield just because it’s not on PS5, just like there are people who hate on last of us or other big Sony exclusives because they’re not on Xbox. I feel like that’s generally accepted as a reality too.
I’ve noticed the behavior also. I wouldn’t say they disliked the game, but they spent a bit too much time digging into its perceived flaws. It happened a lot with Zelda as well.
As much as they won’t admit it, there are posters here who mimic the exact same fanboy BS they are happy to point out in other places.
I actually said FFXIV is the last actual FF that I enjoyed and it’s an MMO. I mean I did enjoy 15 but yeah, far cry from its heyday. Have yet to play 16 though with this news, I wouldn’t mind waiting long. Hell, I still didn’t play FF7R so I can live. 14 is one I do play and it’s pretty enjoyable. So I’m clean from console war bs.
This is pretty much the only thing an ABK acquisition would do for me so I hope it bears out!
100%. Sour grapes are hard to overcome. It doesn’t mean someone who feels that way is a bad person or anything, it’s just something to keep in mind when you’re examining your feelings.
It’s entirely possible to have honest dislike for some things while also feeling some bias against them, we’re only human. It’s when bias is present but denied that things get unpleasant.
That’s definitely possible. We will see in one month how the internet react to Starfield when it has a high review score and is not on their preferred platform.
But there are also people like me who really dislike the whole cinematic linear approach.
Yeah, the Final Fantasy and Square practices was brought up in courts. I doubt that would make Sony change their mind about things, but maybe it gave Square a change of heart. Honestly, I think Square is seeing growth from Capcom and others bringing games to xbox is making them have a change of heart. Also, I think the possible shift because of ABK deal makes them want to provide support now rather than later
Honestly, I was down on FF16 because the game has a weird start where it’s an epic for first 2 hours and then it becomes very slow for like 4-6 hours. Then the game opens up around the 10th hour when you unlock a certain ability. Also, I think many were down on the game because it’s a straight up action game with tacked on quests with limited rpg elements. I think once you come to realization it’s an action adventure game it becomes easier to like the game.
Anyways, the game was a 8.5 for me, and it being a console exclusive didn’t sway my opinion of it.
Eh, I’m happy Phil and Square seem to have patched things up, I’m not gonna change my stance on 16
But i’m not looking at it from the perspective of console wars or whatever, I just hate the direction they went in with it, so many aspects just aren’t what FF is to me
Although that’s been the case for me and FF for a very long time now, 16 just went even further with it
I do not like FF16 because I do not want to play Devil May Cry with a Final Fantasy skin. The more action they become, the more I feel the FF I liked in my youth were not the games Square wanted to make, and I feel bad for that.
While I don’t disagree with your overall point, FF16 is about the worst example. It is a game that many fans are disappointed in for not meeting their expectations but is still a very enjoyable package.
