This is true, but equally Square Enix has 5 titles launching on Xbox this year and most of them were announced this year. I would be surprised if we don’t see multiple SE titles end up coming to Xbox next year despite the current lack of anything announced.
Eh, anything new they announce releasing next year will be on the smaller side meaning it will probably be skipping Xbox.
Lol i would have bought FF1-6 on Xbox. Won’t on ps or switch.
Leverage Tango Gamework’s to oversee the studio. New studios are popping up all the time, Microsoft should be hitting up these industry leaders who are leaving studios, instead these highly influential individuals are going indie. and getting paid to do startups with Tencent money.
How do you not see the problem with that? Even Sony is funding new studios by industry icons. Haven’t you heard of Havoc studios? EA is as well, EA is starting a new studio with Kevin Stephens Ex-Monolith VP Kevin Stephens starting new EA studio | GamesIndustry.biz and EA created a new studio for the Skate franchise. They also are building a new studio focused on Battlefield with the former Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto.
not every studio needs to be an acquisition.
You mean acquiring studios, which you are saying Xbox shouldnt do.
I never said Xbox shouldn’t aquire studios. Xbox can do both.
Are you FUCKING seirous???
The pixel remasters skipping xbox is scandelous. Such cheap ass ports there has to be some sort of blocking contract with sony. This is ridiculous. Theres 0 reason for those games not to come to xbox.
Even Suikoden is coming to xbox lol
Might be obvious but I just want to point out that this isn’t an official announcement. Before we get all worked up in a lather, it might be like how we thought Deathloop’s exclusivity had been extended because there was no official word for a bit. It might also be a thing like what Neon White allegedly is, where it’s coming to Xbox at some point in the future.
Sour grapes: these remasters apparently have some stuttering issues and a terrible font, which might not be moddable on console. You can also install RetroArch on your Xbox to play the NES/SNES/GBA/PSX versions of these games
This! I get that it’s a convenient scapegoat but making leaps like that is bad for discourse. It’s fine to build hypotheticals off of assumptions, but be clear about it!
These have no PS5 version from the looks of things and are highly likely to be revealed on Nintendo Direct in Jan/Feb but people will still say this is proof that Sony is behind this and are on the verge of acquiring Square Enix…
Im in the camp that square knows being acquired by Sony would be awful due to how strong their 2D Jrpg sell on switch . They would lose a ton of money if they become exclusive to PlayStation
People like to pretend Square and Nintendo’s current day relationship is nothing special but it’s actually very strong. Live a Live was actually remade because Nintendo suggested it, not to mention Dragon Quest Treasures being exclusive to Switch, which is more evidence there is no Sony right-of-first-refusal deal with Square as Sony would never allow a huge IP in Japan like DQ to skip PS.
I’m not worried about Sony acquiring them, I do not think it’s happening at all.
I am in the camp that nobody buys Square enix. Sony doesn’t want anything outside of FF that is already moneyhatted to the core anyway.
We should not bother with Square Enix on Xbox. Microsoft should make some third party deals, acquire Sega and Capcom and call it a day.
Exactly, even though Suikoden is also a low budget port Konami aren’t fucking assholes enough to just skip a major platform even if sales won’t be as high. Its called giving yourself as broad of an appeal as possible and even though Suikoden isn’t GP day 1…it has that opportunity to be a GP title down the road to get higher engagement post release.
Something seriously fishy going on here
Just the fact that these have been mobile and PC only should tell you Sony is not involved with this.
Apparently Sony paid Square to delay the PS version until they put it on Switch too is what some seem to think.
MS must at least pay for DQ12 to be day and date to be on Xbox or it will be hard to think they are actually taking Japan seriously. MH and DQ are two multi-million sellers in Japan alone (they at least have the former). DQ12 exclusively not on Xbox will be a bad look once again for the JP market.
No one has an issue with paying for DQ12 ( if they even have to). The issue is that going forward it appears that SE wants a check for every game IP they control to release on the console. That is simply untenable.
I made another thread on this relationship a while ago, and I see the discussion has been taken up here. What frustrates me is how to act as a consumer?
Do I buy a game like Crisis Core? It signals interest, and if many people do, then more games are coming. That game at least launches on Xbox day 1 as opposed to late ports. But then it also doesn‘t feel right to reward Square-Enix for their absolute radio silence on FF VII R and many other games skipping Xbox after so many years. Boycott is a bit of a strong word for this perhaps, but still.
And then I‘m left puzzled as to why Chrono Cross gets released on Xbox alongside The Diofield Chronicles, while iconic classics like FF 1-6 Pixel Remasters would not. It‘s all very bizarre and spotty, and you don‘t build an audience like that.
If you want to play it then buy it, don’t worry about the logistics of it… I bought Star Ocean on Xbox and it wasn’t to support Square releases or anything like that, it was just because I wanted to play it.
This issue is for MS and Square to deal with, I think there is nothing we can do as players.
It seems everything which not developed by SE’s internal studios is coming to Xbox day one.
-
Strangers of Paradise - Team Ninja
-
Chrono Cross Remaster - D4Enterprise
-
Diofield - Lancarse
-
Star Ocean - Tri Ace
-
Crisis Core Union - Tose
-
Nier Replicant - ToyLogic
This changed for next year. There are no games for Xbox announced by SE and Octopath Travelers 2, developed by Acquire, is exclusively not on Xbox.
