Square Enix and Xbox

That’s one reason I was thinking OT2 is skipping Xbox, Acquire has never made an Xbox game before besides one on 360.

If Acquire did not work on the OT1 Xbox port then I think I see why OT2 is skipping Xbox for now

No FF 1-6 Pixel remaster, guess they waiting for that Gamepass check to clear same with Octopath Traveler 2.

Time for Xbox to get their own jrpg series going.

Your single purchase will not make a dent in Square balance sheet, they will never notice it. There is only a signal if you are an influencer with a big following on social media where you could tell the whole gaming community to boycott Squares games on Xbox.

So you have to make up your mind only on your own morality: will you give them money and reward them for this very spotty support?

For me personally, if the game is good i would buy it :woman_shrugging:

Of course, a single purchase will never change their mind, but the fact that we have been discussing this topic so much here and elsewhere certainly has an effect for many more customers who ask the question: Should I still invest in Square-Enix games on my preferred ecosystem? I don’t think Square can grow its userbase on Xbox consoles with their current strategy, but maybe they don’t even care. ATLUS/Sega do, and do it much better.

I ended up buying Crisis Core because I have never played it. But I do think the Xbox-Square relationship needs sorting, and I hope Xbox for their part have noticed how unsatisfied a part of their userbase are about it and take this up for their next conversation with Square.

They’ve had 20 years to do it and only published 2. I do agree if MS put the money into some new IP JRPG’s since OG Xbox or even 360 they would have had at least 2-3 running series that would have done well for them if they reach the level of a LO.

Its a fucking scandel honestly. The Pizel Remasters are straight up ports of a fucking mobile game.

I honestly think MS told SE to fuck themselves and aren’t offering them good gamepass deals because of the lack of support

Even if you want to wait for Gamepass money…it doesn’t hurt to get some sales from the Xbox userbase regardless. People buy fucking games on this platform as proven with games like Arise and NExus which both entered NPD top 10 for Xbox despite not being on Gamepass

SE just being loyal to their own I guess.

It blows the mind.

Feel like i’ve said this ad nauseum, but looking at other franchises that largely grew in the 90’s (RE, Elder Scrolls, DOOM ect) it’s so obvious how stagnent their FF numbers are, 8 - 10 mil sales range for the PS audience now is the same as it was 30 years ago (FF7 - 15, FF8 - 8 /9, FF 9 - 6/7).

It’s the same goddamn audience.

I don’t even get the PS exclusive push with their biggest stuff, like the people who were buying FF on PS had the consoles from day effing one, hell they had them pre-ordered, willing to bet SONY has sold barely any consoles to new users for FF.

The saddest thing is if the Switch wasn’t so handily beating the PS5 in Japan I doubt there would be much effort to support that platform either.

It keeps them from going to Xbox

What do you have in mind? I doubt we will ever get Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey 2.

Xbox would need to buy some Japanese Dev’s/Pub’s etc…

I don’t see that happening anytime soon though, with the FTC problem and stopping big tech, i don’t see how Xbox can get JRPG’s without doing Overpriced moneyhat time exclusive deals.

I mean they could go with Japanese devs. But I don’t see why western devs couldn’t do it. You could try and hire a well known Japanese person for roles maybe soundtrack and writing.

Chained echos is an example of a western dev making a jrpg, sea of stars will be another one.

I doubt the FTC would bat an eyelash at them going for smaller Japanese developers like JP Games (Tabata’s team i believe) Level 5 etc.

FTC went after Meta/Within…

FTC is irrelevant at this point :man_shrugging: In a federal court they will lose by default and in their courts it can last for years and then they will still lose.

Western Dev’s trying to make JRPG’s appealing to Japan? is a hard sell. It will fail miserably.

It’s confirmed. Pixel Remaster is exclusively not on Xbox. :matrick_emote:

The sudden breakdown in support between SE and Xbox is, frankly, bizarre at this stage. There was always the Sony money hats, but smaller, “easy money” cash-ins filtered through. Now those are off the menu too?

SE passing up a chance to include Xbox owners in their $110 (for the standard edition!) cash grab for SNES games makes no sense. None. It’s not for technical reasons. It’s not because it’s not somehow financially worth it for the sales and IP growth, it’s symptomatic of something potentially far more damaging and longer reaching. I’d love a journo to ask Phil what has happened here.

I’ll continue my silent boycot of SE games - yes I have the hardware to play them all - not because I think my one less sale will hurt them, but because there’s way more devs and games deserving of my money who don’t discriminate against me for my platform of choice.

This is why i don’t buy Square Enix Japan games anymore. Good Riddance.

I think they simply want Microsoft to pay for ports and Microsoft don’t want to give in if other platforms ain’t paying and if that is the case I’m on Microsoft’s side in terms of not giving in. If Xbox becomes big and take a good chunk of marketshare then Square will come back to Xbox.

Just imagine Nintendo, Steam and Playstation get these games made for thier platform at no cost then Square goes to Microsoft and says give us X million and the game will come to your platform, fuck em I say.

Yeah, at this point SE defenders will have to accept the fact that looking at 2023 onward it doesn’t seem like SE wants any of their games (that they can control what platform they release) on Xbox consoles for whatever reason.

Still expecting games that’s out of their hands (KH4 and DQ12) to be on console.

Microsoft has already given Square Enix enough opportunities to build a community on Xbox by putting Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Octopath Traveler, and Kingdom Hearts on Game Pass. If they leave the platform as soon as they don’t receive a Game Pass check, then they are not good partners to deal with.

Oh, physical and all on one Switch cartridge! Just what I wanted.

I will get this and it’s a shame Xbox is not getting it.

Edit: Oh wait, that’s expensive lmao. Maybe not getting the physical after all. (Not to mention it’s sold out already)

And I see the releases are plagued with issues that PC mods have fixed… Okay maybe this release is a pick up on a PC sale eventually

And anyway if something bad happened between MS and Square I don’t think Phil will publicly admit it
