Sony reveals new PS5 models and prices

I don’t think you understand the difference.

I, as many others here, call out Xbox on their bs all the time.

Hah, the kumbaya-brigade is just as annoying as the Cult at times.

I don’t see many PS fans trying to defend the price rise for PS+ Microsoft has already increased the prices to both its consoles which I understand and don’t take issue with My issue is I wished Brookline would have launched this year to counter the PS Slim and because I want WiFi 6 - a feature that really should have been there from the start

Iv seen some Playstation fans lay into this more than I or others have here and again, should people not give their opinion on something they think is subpar just because they prefer Xbox?

What exactly do you expect from us here if even PS fans are expressing disappointment?

I think this is SONY admitting PS5 demand have slower down a bit and instead of going for “record” units sold they are now pursuing more profit.

Also, didn’t some Microsoft engineers said to not expect much price cuts due to some components of these consoles being more expensive or something of the sort? That would explain SONY’s weird price strategy with the slim

Hope everyones prepared for $600 consoles next gen.

At the very start during the Microsoft Xbox HotChips presentation they revealed the fabrication costs have basically eliminated any and all mid-generation price reductions. That was one of the strong driving aspects behind creating the Series S upfront for the start of the new generation.

This was something we all noticed during last-gen where consoles never dropped to the price points of the PS360 generation.

I interpreted it completely opposite.

This is Sony saying we are selling so well, it doesn’t matter what we charge you suckers will buy it anyway.

They are basically copying Apple…

Brad Sam’s summed it up quite well here:

They are getting very arrogant much like the PS3 launch era.

Sony might be confident/arrogant enough to continue to raise prices and do anti-consumer things but them not caring about Xbox anymore is hilariously stupid and absurd

They wouldn’t make the deals they do or spend the last 12 months shitting their pants about ABK if they didn’t

They’re raising the prices because Playstation is unsustainable. Also because of Inflation and the CoD/PSN exodus paints a grim picture.

No, I’m referring to this:

Doesn’t help that Disney is considering bringing their ip (like Spider-Man and Star Wars) back in house. Spider-Man 2 could be the last exclusive Spider-Man game from Sony. Even their biggest successes like Spider-Man are becoming risky these days.

There’s a graph going around on twitter that shows the profit and revenue of the big three. Sony has far and away the most revenue. But their profits are actually fairly low. 1.5 billon in profit with xbox making 1.8 and nintendo making nearly 3 billion.

I wonder if that isn’t part of the price hikes, explosion in PS peripherals and the sudden and inexplicable shift to GAAS. Quarter billion dollar AAA titles may do big numbers but they NEED to in order to break even. While sony is bringing tons of money in their costs remain quite high and they don’t have much in the way of evergreen money makers. Nintendo can crap out a pokemon spinoff whenever they want to make a few hundred mil. Microsoft has gamepass and multiple long tail games that have long since paid for themselves.

One and done single player games have a saturation point. I can only buy ghost of tsushima once, no matter how much I love it. Maybe jim ryan was trying to head off a problem before it becae acute.

Hmm I still interpret it the same way if I’m honest. The way they ultimately grow profit is getting more consoles into homes therefore if they were chasing profit despite sounding counterintuitive you would expect to see a price drop, which is the same strategy as all mid gen ‘slim’ releases before it.

This however is just them reducing their own costs while also increasing their mark-up. The single SKU for manufacturing which they can then package with or without a drive will vastly increase output while also reducing their costs. Then the increase in the US, and the stand/drive costs also help with double dipping.

I don’t think their sales are slowing at all, I just think they are doing their PS3 era of anti-consumer BS!

October/November/December sales for PS5 will determine if people are good with the price increase or not. My guess is that they will be especially those who don’t own a PS5 yet and want one. You have the Spider Man 2 bundle which is going to sell a fucking shit ton and they have a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle which will probably do pretty well.

I hear the word “slim” and I can’t help but think back to another time it was incorrectly used.

“I’ve slimmed down” The words that had come from my wife’s mouth, I immediately began to laugh… uncontrollably. She threw me out and i have been living in my car ever since (its a honda civic with spinning rims)

I have been going to therapy, i go three times a week and the bills are getting quite high, luckily i was actually on my work break, so work has covered the expenses.

As i look back at the PlayStation it gives me chills and sets me off. Not because of the situation I’m in mind you. Just for the fact that I do not understand the point of this console. Who is standing there thinking if only this was an 1/8 slimmer and more expensive i would enjoy it more.

Let me know if anyone knows of a good generator i could use in the boot of my 01’ civic.

Learn from my mistakes!

It doesn’t get a whole lot more dubious than marketing your console in vertical orientation almost exclusively, but not including the required stand. And then charging a whopping $30 for it.

Looking forward to the stand topping the “Best Selling Accessories” lists everywhere.

From a business perspective, kudos to Sony for milking their customers for all they’re worth. But consumer-friendly it is not.

I had to run to GameStop yesterday. Guy ahead of me bought the new black Series S. I was picking up an Xbox controller and the whole time the clerk was talking about her Series X. America isn’t exactly like the rest of the world, Xbox isn’t niche here… which is why PlayStation tries so hard to maintain its lead here and why the rest of the world gets the new PS5 next year.

I’ll be honest as someone who has had a PlayStation since the first one came out, I don’t see any reason why I need to get one.

I love Naughty Dog, Insomniac and Santa Monica’s games, but I’m not spending over 500 for just a few games. I might miss out on some third party games from Square Enix, but again I can’t justify spending that kind of money and all the reports of GAAS games, no thanks.

For crying out load, gas and groceries I Need to live, the PS5 not so much.

Had games like God of War not been also on PS4 I could have in theory bought a PS5, but right now, I’m good with my Xbox Series X.

That reads like pure fantasy to someone like me. In my country there’s not even Gamestops anymore… And imagining the whole Xbox community in the same store at the same time? Hah.

I remember buying an Xbox One S at GameStop and the salesperson asking me why I would get that instead of a PS4.
