Yeah, but they paid over 3 billion, there has to be something new that is coming where they feel they will get a proper return on investment. Not just what they will make from people continuing to play Destiny 2 forever
And when that new thing arrives, do we really think that will also be coming to Xbox? I don’t buy that for a second
This is their Mojang/Minecraft. I know it’s expensive, but that’s how they see it.
I don’t like their games but I even I recognize that Bungie is arguably the best developer who handles a live service game that isn’t a battle royale.
That expertise is very valuable for a company who has no studios who have knowledge about running a successful one.
As the market leader, you swallow the pill and overpay to acquire that type of talent, it’ll pay it self off in the long run.
Yeah there is no real mystery in my opinion. Sony wants to get in on the recurring revenue game in a big way and this is a way to do it.
I think Sony has belief that their other studios can provide a good enough reason to pick the PlayStation ecosystem but Bungie will be a way to reach gamers elsewhere. It will basically be a cash cow for Sony.
Also, those stats are surprising. Destiny is disproportionately bigger on Xbox than other platforms when you take user base into account.
Honestly, seeing those stats, it made me wonder how many is playing Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite if they’re in most played xbox games passing many games, especially Halo standing with top guys like Warzone.
Guess I’ll leave it at, mark me down as someone who fully believes there will be more to come of this
There is some new game coming. Be it Destiny 3, or something all new. And that game will be on PS5 and eventually PC and that’s it. Which is what makes this move a smart one for Sony especially when they get there own 1st party FPS, finally
Why? MS bought Zenimax and AB. lol.
MH is just my Achilles heel lol, especially after waiting decades to see it finally come Xbox and succeed with MHW
I’m with Psydec. I would hate it so much to lose a next Monster Hunter game. Sony might keep it multiplatform for Nintendo and leave Xbox out, just my guess but I can see that happening. Nintendo is just too important for Capcom.
But I would hate it too if it’s almost anyone else, but I realize this is where we are at in this industry, but doesn’t mean I can’t wish MS nabs the ones I care about the most.
One thing is for sure, this console generation I definitely will want to add PS5 to my collection too, they absolutely will get at least one studio I don’t want to miss the games from.
It’s funny when Switch is the factor for them not selling to anyone yet when I think about Sega, I don’t think they have any. Right now, they’re with Xbox and I don’t think they want to lose Game Pass money because it’s clearly showing. When it comes to Japanese publisher, this one has a high chance for Xbox to acquire.
Bandai Namco also is not really close to Nintendo, all their biggest games consistently skip Switch.
Calm down, this fake rumour about Capcom is making people freaking out for no reason, lol. Also in the grand scheme of things is chumps change compared to ABK, King alone makes more money than all Capcom combined for example.
Still wondering where this Capcom stuff is even coming from. Do they even want to be acquired? I remember some insider (Jez?) mentioning a while back that someone was sniffing around them but when Monster Hunter World blew up, their price went up. They never said who it was but I assumed it was MS at the time.
Either way they just shipped the best selling MH game on the real market leader’s console , do they want to give that up for one whose on the decline in Japan?
Every acquisition has been either long term partners or studios in dire need of financial aid/support.
Capcom is making an insane amount of money and are on the best hot streak of their life profiting off every console base. Im sure they are not interested in selling to anybody.
Yep, anyway, they are not big in the grand scheme of things, like I was saying above, King alone makes more money than all Capcom.
Activision Blizzard was definitely the right place at a right time for Microsoft.
I know, it’s nothing for MS but we have to face the reality that Sony is not done and that is going to result in some big games not becoming available on Xbox anymore. Could be Capcom, which would mean MH, RE etc, could be SE, which would mean Tomb Raider, DQ and that’s kinda about it, lol, could be CDPR and then we’ll never see Witcher 4 on Xbox.
We can only wait and see. But this is going to be yet another reason to strongly consider getting a PS5 too… eventually, when available, lol. But I also meant it as personal, for MS it’s great that they make crazy money, but as a gamer I have my own wishes.
I don’t see Sony spending more than Bungie for a single acquisition, this is their level of spending. You are freaking out for no reason, this was already a huge outlier in their strategy.
Nah, I’m not freaking out. I’m just realising that things definitely are going to change. So far the studios they acquired don’t matter one bit to me, but for sure that’s going to change. For example they could nab IO or Techland and we’ll miss out on those games, unless you get a PS5 as well. I’m just mentioning studios as an example, that’s all.
MS won’t acquire everything under the sun only to appease people minds. XD
Bungie made totally no sense at that price and with that conditions. It can happen again, but I don’t see Sony buying 10B publishers anyway.
