Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

You haven’t seen anything yet my friend! seriously, one has to think this was a cause for celebration but it all ended in concerns of the future of PlayStation

Oh god what was this from

Actually a smart move by Sony. I like how they are becoming more open.

I echo others that think Bungie dictated the terms of the deal and also raised the price because PlayStation was desperate for FPS / Multiplayer ip. PlayStation would love for Bungie games to be exclusive but that seems to be not for sale at the moment. Bungie is in the drivers seat, it’s awkward to watch PlayStation try to spin multiplat strategy as if it were a mutual decision. Honestly just ignore anyone talking about what Jim Ryan says when it comes to Bungie. The only relevant information about Bungie’s future game releases will come from Bungie themselves. Very glad Xbox didn’t agree to these terms. As a bonus the entire internet can stop worrying about the Activision deal being blocked now.

Bruh same, I’ve kept saying this and people are probably gonna start thinking I’m just saying I don’t care about the games because I’m salty  Never played any JRPGs, played Destiny 1 but dropped it after like 6 months, didn’t play Sunset Overdrive and don’t play any fighter games so pretty much all the games they momeyhat/buy has had zero effect on me.

FML I’m going to always think MS bought someone with these sort of pictures now :joy:

Haha, pretty much mirrors my story: Never even played Sunset Overdrive, my only JRPG is a few hours of FFXIII which I hated, played some Destiny 2 at launch, found it to be meh and then they removed content making sure I would never return, do not play fighting games.

I wonder if Bungie/Sony might do some stuff like exclusive windows, Destiny 3 12 month timed exclusive for example.

Asobo would want the same deal as Bungie; ie., independence, ability to develop for multiple endpoints, etc.

I think it’s pretty easy to understand. Sony needs a big FPS and GaaS studio. One with a lot of experience and talent. And there is no studio that could be better than the one who made the last good Halo game.

PlayStation bought Bungie though, not 343i?

Except that big FPS/GaaS remains multiplatform, so it doesn’t entice people to go for the Playstation ecosystem as it’s not exclusive, so it doesn’t really feel like a good deal to Sony imo but it’s a pretty good one for Bungie. Guessing MS didn’t see the need to spend the money when they’ll still have their games anyway, and whatever it is they have in the pipeline must not have been impressive enough to compromise having to let Bungie be independent and release their games on all platforms.

I give you option C.

This appease the more acquisitions crowd by further clearly enabling the ability to get more big purchases by regulators.

Pay walls <<

The price Sony paid for Bungie perplexes me, are they really worth half the price of Zenimax?

Summary? Pay wall behind it

I said this about Mojang when people were talking about the costs: The money spent only really has to give them a greater return than “sitting in the bank” or more accurately better than an alternative investment in something else of similar risk. Bungie and their IP will still have value if it needs to be sold later, depending on how well it is managed of course. I’d wager if Sony leverages Destiny with some TV shows or movies it will be just fine, don’t worry TV is okay if its Sony.
