Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

Wait am I getting confused.

Is Phil Tobey or Gobby in this scenario?

Plan on it not making sense in the traditional manor. Sony also gets to leverage the Destiny IP in other media, like movies and shows.

Phil and Joe said the team chose to be cross-gen

It was cross-gen because they were working on it since the Xbox One X era.

But we’re they really? Seems like much less than the 4 years that would indicate. At least that’s the vibe from the last XboxEra Podcast.

Jim Ryan said it pretty clearly that Bungie brings a lot of GaaS, multi-platform experience with them that will be valuable for other GaaS being developed within PS Studios. I imagine Bungie will provide guidance, hands-on dev, and share tech for a number of games, while also building on Destiny 2 and developing Matter.

Dude…Halo Infinite had to be Cross gen. Sorry I will never play that game on last gen Xbox…but look at how hard it is to get Series XS. You can’t just put a game like that on next gen only. You can with a starfield new IP. Not Halo.

And we won’t have to worry about Cross gen for too long. Support for Xbox One is diminishing for AAA games.

The comments, the comments my GOD! See? even the hardcore ones think they got nothing. Sucks for them, but SONY has clearly state that they are investing hard in GAS games (and multiplatform :eyes:) you know, the antithesis of PlayStation for them :upside_down_face:

Destiny 2 will always be on Xbox. Destiny 3 maybe not. But by the time DEstin 3 comes out…MS will have an enormous portfolio of games.

Is Bungie on record saying that they have no plans to make Destiny 3?

Remember just before the gen started and ppl were laughing about the ‘warchest’ being a meme? Well…[insert Todd Howard ‘who’s laughing now?’ meme here]

This was supposed to be something to celebrate, why are a lot of people mad about this

So yeah, pretty damn startling precedent set here with Sony outright making an acquisition explicitly to NOT bolster their exclusive lineup. Once again, it’s made abundantly clear that Jim Ryan has pretty much zero desire to benefit the PS community in any way. At best, he merely views us as the ones who are most likely the ones to accept their attempts to nickel and dime us.

It seems we’re barreling towards a future where not only does Sony have no exclusives anymore WHATSOEVER, but they might just be going full-on third party, releasing their games on their competitors platforms as well. And hell, not even Microsoft seemingly wants to go that far…not yet, at least, so Sony is definitely the pioneer this time.

This is the beginning of the end for PlayStation as we know it. Sony might as well just drop out now. I don’t believe there will be a PS6.

Jeeeeeeez this people really hate that more can enjoy their games

We were not prepared for what was to come after the first round of acquisitions.

You know what’s actually funny? this is the first time I’ve seen a reasonable take from him lol https://twitter.com/THEAP99/status/1488229277300625408?s=20&t=z7DtvMKtCqbkmZwjV3BgWg

What I cited above was said by one of the tons of furious ps fanboys reading the small words of the deal.

Holy fuck who posted this

As a PC gamer I have been in quite fascinating journey in the human psyche, analyzing how much a brand actually means for these people (and how low one can go by participating in this “wars”)

I’m still attributes these prophetic takes to King David lol!

Asobo would be awesome, what a talented studio.
