Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

It’s either

  • Sony fans realizing this deal really doesn’t give them much other than keeping an already existing game on the platform

  • Xbox fans happy they’re keeping Bungie multiplat

Or both. I wonder if multi-platform means Xbox or it’s PC/mobile.

Jim said “rival paltforms”

They said half a dozen times they’re remaining independent and multi-platform so it would be odd if they were just talking about PC

So does Microsoft now HAVE to keep CoD multiplat with Xbox Advantage ™ or do they say “on platforms where GamePass exists

I dont see why this would change the Future of CoD and I hope xbox dont get sentimental about it.

If that’s true, this is an excellent deal for Bungie. I don’t really see what Sony gets out of it.

With Activision, even if COD was multi-platform, I understand the business aspect of it as King is worth a shit ton more.

Either way, I wish Sony/Microsoft would acquire studios/publishers that I actually want them to acquire. lol. Oh well.

Sony gets to now keep 100% of the GaaS revenue from Destiny on PlayStation instead of losing the 30% of GaaS revenue if Bungie became Xbox exclusive. They also get to keep 70% of the revenue from Destiny GaaS on Xbox. This kind of seems like an insurance move to keep that PlayStation revenue stream churning, as I saw folks say Destiny is #2 behind COD in PlayStation revenue.

Could you imagine if Sony lost COD and Destiny revenue?

All the multiplat stuff was known within the hour of the announcement. I used to watch his Fallout videos back in the day, but all his videos are clickbait now.

I’ll be that guy…I mean Literally all this company has done for 10 years is fucking Destiny 1 and dEstiny 2. Thats it. And if its true they’re building GAAS Games…Its just a money making scheme for Sony. I hear some journalists say its a counter punch to MS…I mean that’s like a heavy weight boxer being counterpunched by a lightweight teenager.

I’m sorry…but for a development team of supposedly 1000+ people…they’ve done fuck all over the last 10 years except make 1 decent Loot based shooter and one mediocre one.

Or maybe Sony doesn’t let them do whatever and tells them to make a new exclusive game.

Just because Sony kinda got hosed in this deal doesn’t mean that Microsoft has to voluntarily weaken their position out of some kind of misplaced sympathy considering the legion of moneyhats we’ve seen in the past and will probably still see in the future.

IDK acquiring the dev of Phil’s favorite game has a real “HIS HEART NORMAN. FIRST WE ATTACK HIS HEART” vibe to it.

No room for sentimentality in business. It makes people weak.

Theyre gonna lose revenue regardless this gen because the Xbox consoles will sell a lot more than what Xbox One did or rather the ratio will be smaller. So Xbox will have more users and Sony will have less of the pie in general

Also Destiny Is sort of waning. Its going to decline soon enough

Another thing to point out is with how hard PS5’s are to get and last gen coming to a close…Sony are gonna struggle selling 10-15m+ games on just PS5 alone.

The only way this acquisition for me makes sense is if Bungie make 2-3 AAA Exclusive Shooters for Sony in the next 5-7 Years that become really popular and rival COD.

Phil has a PS5 and a PC, he’ll be fine :philwins:

COD can just be a gamepass game while selling it on PS. That alone would shift enormous users to Xbox.

For example…the COD that’s coming out this year. Don’t be surprised even Pre Aquisition MS makes that Gamepass Day 1. Theres no contractual obligation to not make it so.

If anything I would blame MS over 343 on the development of Infinite. Their past works on the title would’ve been less painful if dady MS didn’t force the cross-gen stuff on them.

Yeah, you’re right. If Sony did lose COD and Destiny revenue, that would be kind of funny. lol

Yeah, I guess. What YouTubers don’t have clickbait headlines? It’s few and far between. I honestly don’t care about the headline. I just want the info and context that’s in the video but to each their own.

This is what I was going to say when replying back to Brit but you did it for me. It just seems like a pure money making scheme for Sony which business wise, makes sense.

At this point, I just wish that both Microsoft/Sony would acquire studios/publishers that I would like them to acquire instead of those that I have zero interest in.
